Don t Forget Your Baby Bottle! On the weekend of August 1 st & 2 nd, St. Matthew parish will be hosting a Baby Bottle Fundraiser to benefit The Life Center of Long Island. The Life Center is a crisis pregnancy center that counsels women and men who are experiencing an unplanned pregnancy. Did you know that they provide: free pregnancy test kits, maternity housing referrals with eligibility requirements, sonograms by a licensed physician when necessary, crisis intervention counseling, pre-natal & post-natal guidance, material aid such as cribs, car seats, diapers, etc., referral assistance for: continuing education & employment opportunities We are asking that you pick up a baby bottle and fill it with your change. Most importantly, we are asking you to recite the prayer on the bottle. The prayer attached to the bottle will enable the counselors at The Life Center to say just the right words a mother or father may need to hear. It especially opens a mother s heart to accept the truth. We believe these prayers lead abortion-minded women to call The Life Center in the first place. Let us pray with our whole heart for the lives of our unborn children. Saturday, Jul 25 5:00 PM Intention for Jack Tseng Neil F. July 26th, 2015 The 17th Sunday in Ordinary Time 8 Third Time Daniel Mucci & Susan Schneck Kyle Love & Amanda Pascarella Arnold Gifford & Jennifer Pynn Catholics For Freedom of Religion "Conscience is the most secret core and sanctuary of a man. There he is alone with God, whose voice echoes in his depths." (Second Vatican Council) Every human being has a conscience, an inner guide to determining right from wrong. It is a gift from God and the means He has given us to make moral decisions. In the United States today, defending this right has become a pressing challenge, particularly relating to the right to life and marriage. The Catholic Bishops of the United States remind us, "The Church equips its members to address political and social questions by helping them to develop a well-formed conscience.... Conscience is not something that allows us to justify doing whatever we want, nor is it a mere 'feeling' about what we should or should not do. Rather, conscience is the voice of God resounding in the human heart, revealing the truth to us and calling us to do what is good while shunning what is evil." (Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship - no. 17) "The citizens of the United States of America have a right to applaud themselves for having given to mankind examples of an enlarged and liberal policy a policy worthy of imitation. All possess alike liberty of conscience and immunities of citizenship." Special Collection for Persecuted Christians The number of persecuted Christians in the world has topped a staggering 100 million according to a recent report from Open Doors USA, an organization that assists persecuted Christians. Paying homage recently to the courage of the Apostles and that of the first Christian community, Pope Francis referenced the atrocious, inhuman and incomprehensible persecutions, sadly present in many parts of the world today, often under the silent gaze of all. Bishop Murphy urges us to reach out and protect these victims who are suffering who are our so often the targets of violence and murder, along with other ethnic and religious minorities. To that end, a special collection will be taken up in our parish the weekend of August 1-2, 2015 to assist those who are suffering religious persecution in Syria and Iraq and wherever needed. Please continue to pray for peace and if you are able, to support this special collection to assist for our brothers and sisters in Christ.

Please join the millions worldwide who pray each day for the monthly prayer intentions of Pope Francis. Since 1844 the members of the Apostleship of Prayer have offered themselves to God for the salvation of souls, the Church, the intentions of all Apostles of Prayer, and the intentions of the Pope. DAILY OFFERING PRAYER God, our Father, I offer You my day. I offer You my prayers, thoughts, words, actions, joys, and sufferings in union with Your Son Jesus' Heart, who continues to offer Himself in the Eucharist for the salvation of the world. May the Holy Spirit, who guided Jesus, be my guide and my strength today so that I may witness to Your love. With Mary, the mother of our Lord and of the Church, I pray especially for this month's intentions as proposed by the Holy Father. Amen. July Universal: That political responsibility may be lived at all levels as a high form of charity. Evangelization: That, amid social inequalities, Latin American Christians may bear witness to love for the poor and contribute to a more fraternal society.
