Wabash Church The WIRE Tribulation or Peace? 2016 I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world. John 16:33 Are you in Christ or are you in the world? That seems to be the crucial issue to which Jesus points in this one very poignant verse of scripture. I love the contrast that he paints here: in the world equals tribulation. In me (Christ) equals peace. The choice seems easy. In reality, it s tough, right? We re confronted nearly hourly with the choice; in him or in the world. Where will we go to find meaning and purpose? How will we spend our idle time (if you have any!)? To what, or whom, will I give my affections? For what will I truly strive? And with each passing moment, we have both options before us. Jesus had just finished speaking about his looming departure from this earth. The disciples were finding it hard to understand, especially when he used figurative language. He had just used the imagery of a woman giving birth and how she remembers the anguish for but only a while; soon after she has joy for the coming of a new child into the world. So also you have sorrow now, but I will see you again and your hearts will rejoice Jesus says to them. (vs. 22) Jesus, in a nutshell was saying, this life is always going to be tough, but there will come a time when you ll eternally rejoice. And, he was saying, if you remain in me then you re remaining with the one who has overcome the world that dishes out this tribulation. While you won t escape it completely in this life, eventually you will because of me. I have overcome the world, eternally speaking. So in the here and now my dear friend, where will you dwell and what will you pursue; the tribulation filled world, or the peace of Christ? May your Lenten season be punctuated with that peace! Yours and His, Pastor George Palm Sunday- Palms and songs with children Maundy Thursday- Service at 7pm-Garrett Hall Resurrection Sunday-Easter Cantata/Drama Come Touch The Robe

What s Happening In Our Youth Group? Page 3 YOUTH GROUP is Wednesdays 6:30pm to 8:30pm at the youth room for students grades 6-12. YOUTH SUNDAY SCHOOL... is Sundays 11:00am to 12:00pm at the youth room for students grades 6-12. PARENT INFO MEETING FOR SUMMER MISSION Sunday March 6, 11am to 12pm, in the youth room Come hear from Pastor Ben and Elder Zack about our Montana summer mission opportunity. We'll answer such questions as: "What will my kid be doing on this mission?", "Will my kid like this trip?", and "Will she be safe on this trip?". We'll leave plenty of time for questions and answers. Families that come to this meeting and decide to register their kid (within a week) will receive a $20 discount off the already-incredibly-low trip cost. 2015 Mission Trip STUDENT LEADER TRAINING AT NORTHWEST MINISTRY CONFERENCE Ben is taking our student leaders to the one-day student leader training workshops at the Northwest ministry conference on Saturday, March 12 from 8:00am to 6:00pm. Registration costs $35 per student, but Ben is giving a $15 discount to the first 10 students who sign up. See nwmincon.org for more info. COME HANG WITH CAPERNWRAY College-aged students from Capernwray will be with us all day Sunday, March 13. We have some fun activities planned for our youth group to do with them. 11:00am Capernwray students will lead the teen Sunday School hour in the Youth Room. 12:01pm Joint lunch with Capernwray and youth group students 1:30pm Joint flag football 3:30pm Prayer walk around Enumclaw 5:30pm Spaghetti dinner at Garrett Hall TWO EASY WAYS TO MINISTER TO TEENAGERS Talk to them. This is uncomfortable for adults because they feel they aren t hip enough or informed enough about youth culture to engage teenagers in conversation. But you ll never go wrong when you ask them about Friends and Family (do you have brothers and sisters? What are they like?) Occupation (school, sports, music, hobbies, etc.) Pray for them. Things are different than when you were in school puberty starts way earlier now, they re dating at younger ages, colleges and jobs are more competitive, etc. So kids need prayer DID YOU KNOW that half of the kids who come to Wednesday youth group are kids whose families don't come to Wabash? now more than ever. But at the same time things aren t much different they re awkward, emotional, image-conscious, pressured, angry, and raw. Sounds like us at 14-years-old doesn t it? Remember how stressful it was being a teenager? That s another reason they need you to pray for them now more than ever.

CHILDREN S And family MINISTRY Wow, it s March and already almost half way through the season of Lent. God has shown me over and over again what He has done for me! His kindness! His mercy! His love! His Grace! And often times my reply is That was so awesome when you did that! Show me that again God! But this time He s really put a question on my heart so what s your response? Pastor made a suggestion on Ash Wednesday to spend some time with God in silence this season. So, I (hesitantly with 3 little ones) decided to respond by doing just that. For simply (or not so simply!) 10-20 minutes, we ve implemented a quiet time in our house. Not that it s easy or that we even do it every day, but God is faithful and uses it to pour into us! He keeps bringing two verses to mind and both include a response. It s God s goodness that leads us to repentance Romans 2:4 and We love because He first loved us 1 John 4:19. God wants us to respond and He has blessings in store! What is God revealing to you? And how are you going to respond? Blessings from your Children and Families Ministry of Wabash March In like a Lion out like a lamb could not be more fitting for this March as we celebrate Easter! Worthy is the Lamb who was slain! Worthy is the King who s conquered the grave! Happy Easter!
