St. Ann s Parish Corpus Christi Sunday June 7, 2015 This past week I had lunch with a young man named Nick Grevas who is involved in a dynamic ministry. He works with FOCUS, the Fellowship of Catholic University Students. FOCUS is a ministry that works with students on our college campuses across the nation to help them keep the faith at an age where they too often fall away. The results have been astounding! This year alone, Nick has convinced three young women to return to their faith and complete their initiation. He has helped several others break their addiction to pornography, and two others have expressed interest in the priesthood, all in the course of one year! FOCUS leads students in Catholic Bible study and in living out their faith on a daily basis. I am amazed at the work that Nick and the other 400 or so missionaries in FOCUS do at over 100 college campuses across the nation, and I believe they are the future of our Church. FOCUS missionaries are recent college graduates who work full time at their ministry. Since their services are provided free of charge, they are supported solely by sponsors. By sponsoring a FOCUS missionary, we make their work of spreading the faith among college students possible. I proudly sponsor two FOCUS missionaries, Nick and another young man I baptized many years ago. I consider my monthly gift to them one of the best ways I can help the Church in the New Evangelization. Most FOCUS missionaries are supported by sponsors from their families and acquaintances. Nick is in need of more sponsors if he is going to be able to continue as a missionary, and I am hoping there will be some parishioners who will be willing to sponsor him. I know many times we desire to support good causes, but we want to make sure that we are sponsoring solid ministries that are proving effective, well, FOCUS is the real thing! The fruits are already abundant. I hope you will consider a monthly gift to support Nick. Most sponsors give monthly gifts ranging from $25 to $250, all according to your means. I assure you it is money well spent, as you are helping secure our Catholic future among the young. You can learn more about FOCUS on their website at http:// www.focus.org. You can even sign up to sponsor Nick by name on the site. If you d like to speak with Nick directly, you may email him at Nicholas.grevas@focus.org or call him at (845) 522-3746.
