A WORD FROM FR. IVAN Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, In the middle of December, just before we enter in the heart of the Christmas Season, the Church in the Americas celebrate the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe. Most of us associate it only as a Mexican feast. However, Our Lady of Guadalupe is the Patroness of all the Americas. The apparition of the Virgin Mary to St. Juan Diego was important for the Catholicism of our country too. The words of the Virgin Mary to Juan Diego were totally addressing the spreading of the Good News of the love of Jesus to everyone. I want very much to have a little house built here for me, in which I will show Him, I will exalt Him and make Him manifest. I will give Him to the people in all my personal love, in my compassion, in my help, in my protection. I am truly your merciful Mother, yours and all the people who live united in this land. Also people of different ancestries, thodr who love me, those who seek me, those who trust in me. Here I will hear their weeping, their complaints and heal all their sorrows, hardships and sufferings. This year at St. Bernard, we have been celebrating mass in Spanish once every Sunday afternoon at 1:30pm. We have had a steady attendance. Also last year the group has donated an authentic copy of the original image of the Virgin of Guadalupe that they brought from the Basilica in Mexico (which you can see on the right hand of the sanctuary of our church). This is an initiative to reach out to the Spanish speaking people in our neighborhood who are also straying away from the faith. I pray that the Our Lady of Guadalupe may continue to help us to be a missionary parish to reach out those who want to encounter Jesus Christ. Our Lady of Guadalupe feast on Tuesday, December 12. Special Mass at 7pm in Spanish. God bless! Wishing you a blessed Sunday. Fr. Ivan Sant FrIvanSant@churchofstbernard-stp.org Page 2 St. Bernard
