decree: an official decision or order made by a ruler.

territory: A large division of a country that may not have the same rights as the rest of the country.

relief

relief: A wall carving that stands out from the surface of a building.

scribe

scribe: A person who writes things for others.

The Assyrian Empire When the Babylonian Empire was losing its power, another empire started to rise in Mesopotamia. This empire was called the Assyrian Empire.

The Assyrian Empire The Assyrian empire was known for its warfare, and striking fear in its enemies hearts. The Assyrians are known in history as The Masters of War

Assyrian Achievements The Assyrian kings worked to united their people by improving transportation and communication. Some of the Assyrian achievements were:

Assyrian Achievements 1. They built the world s first system of paved roads. The roads linked the major cities of the empire. The roads helped them develop the first postal system for carrying messages

Assyrian Achievements 2. The Assyrians were also builders of great monuments. The Assyrians wanted anyone who saw the buildings to know the strength and success of their empire.

The New Babylonian Empire After Nebuchadnezzar, his son, Awil- Marduk ruled for a short time. All of the relatives who took over from Awil- Marduk did not last long on the throne.

The New Babylonian Empire Nabonidus finally took control of the New Babylonian Empire and kept the empire strong. He rebuilt the empire s temples to honor the god he worshipped. He was eventually forced to surrender the land to Persia.
