Lent Lent is a time of fasting, a time of reflection, and a time to realize our dependence on God. This Lent, not only do we have Soup for the Soul as a great opportunity to reflect and grow in our understanding of the word of God. We get to hear from various perspectives to help us obtain an appreciation for the text. As we feast on the word we are also taking a more in depth look at the Lord s Prayer throughout Lent. My sermon series is focusing on the Lord s Prayer, taking it line by line and exploring some of the underlying messages and implications of just what are we saying when we pray as Jesus Christ taught us to pray. This Lent, I hope you find several opportunities to examine yourself and to draw closer to God as we approach Easter. Thank you so much for the honor you gave me: The Flowers, the balloons, the great spread of food & cake, the cards & many kind expressions of appreciation for my playing of the organ. It has been a pleasure. Love & Prayers Verona Burke To our wonderful church family we offer our sincere, heartfelt thanks for all the support we received during Jeff s illness and passing. We are so appreciative for all of you who visited Jeff while he was in the hospital, the people who prepared and served the luncheon before the service, the Elders and others who prepared and sent food to our homes, and all the members of the Life Lessons SS class. A special thank you goes to Nance Cunningham, for bringing the dishes from the Elders, as well as for all the hours she spent with us at the hospital. Julia s presence was a comfort to all of us. Pastor Daniel was by our side while we were making some very tough decisions, and was there at the time Jeff passed. He spent many, many hours at the hospital, and in planning the services with us. Thanks to all of you who attended the services, sent cards and gifts, called, and have continued to offer us your support through this difficult time. Donna and Seth Nevel Dean and George Lunsford

Some other information included: CWF Business meeting and luncheon met on February 13. The guest speaker was Sheryl Presley from OKC Triad. She shared safety information for women regarding carrying purses. She was adamant about cross-body purses and the danger they present. These purses can be grabbed, wrapped around the throat and used as a weapon against the person wearing them. Make copies of all credit cards carried in the purse. Leave your purse at home if possible and carry only a small sized pocket purse with ID, money, etc. Keep purses closed and carry them close to your body beneath your arm. Always GIVE UP YOUR PURSE rather than fight. Call 911 immediately and try to remember as much as possible about the person attacking you. Don t place your purse on the back of the chair when in a restaurant. Keep it on the floor between your feet. Don t wait until in a parking lot to place your purse in the trunk of your car. Thieves are watching parking lots and it takes them only 30 seconds to break into the trunk of a car. Plan to join the group on March13th. It has come to the attention of the Worship Committee that some folks in our congregation cannot participate fully in communion because of a gluten intolerance. Because communion is such an important part of our worship, we have acquired some gluten-free bread. During the 9:00 worship you will see the gluten-free wafers in a small glass dish with the other bread. If you are allergic to gluten, please know that we welcome you to the full participation in communion. If you are not gluten intolerant, please help our fellow congregants by being very careful that the bread and other wafers do not touch the wafers in the glass dish. During the 11:00 worship the gluten free wafers will be in the center of the juice tray. Thanks to all, Worship Committee

Memorial Paraments During 2017-2018, Western Oaks Christian Church Worship Committee is pleased to receive a loan from the liturgical art collection of the late Carol A. Jewell. Upon her death in 2007, family and friends commissioned liturgical artist, Mona Stevenson of New Franklin, Missouri to create paraments for the sanctuary of Central Christian Church, Lima, Ohio in memory of Carol. These paraments were featured at Central for these past several years and are now being available to congregations across the country over these next several years. While a life-long member of Central Christian Church, Carol spent her last year residing with Tom and Kay here in Oklahoma City and was in regular attendance at the 11:00 a.m. worship. We are pleased to continue her witness by displaying these memorial paraments on the sanctuary Communion Table. Lent They put a purple robe on him, then twisted together a crown of thorns and set it on him. Mark 15:17 The traditional color of the Lenten season is purple; for repentance, contemplation, suffering and endurance. The cross, framed by a crown of thorns, pierced by nails, reminds us of the sacrifice that climaxed Holy Week. Both cross and crow are black, a color of sorrow, as well as sin. The time we have all been waiting for: Easter Eggs may be found outside the church office to be stuffed and brought back by Sunday, March 25 th. Thanks from the many children who come to hunt eggs, have their face painted and make crafts!
