Surah 17 Al-Isra (The Night Journey) Activity Order the events below from Al Isra wa Miraj. The first one has been done for you: Jibril took Muhammad (pbuh) back down through the Heavens towards Earth. On the way, they met Musa (pbuh) again. Muhammad (pbuh) tells Musa (pbuh) that Allah wants his followers to pray fifty times a day. Musa (pbuh) tells him that the people are not going to want to pray fifty times a day and that he should go back to Allah and ask if he ll reduce the number of prayers. In the fourth Heaven, Muhammad met the Prophet Idris (pbuh) who had been a prophet even before the time of Nuh (pbuh) and the Flood. The Angel Jibril opened him up and gently removed Muhammad s heart, washed it in the purest water and filled it with faith and wisdom. Muhammad(pbuh) led every single prophet, from Adam (pbuh) to Isa (pbuh), in prayer at Al Masjid Al Aqsa in Jerusalem. Muhammad (pbuh) mounted al-buraq and headed toward Jerusalem. So Muhammad (pbuh) entered Jannah and met with Allah (swt). At last, Jibril was able to return Muhammad (pbuh) to Earth. The Prophet mounted al-buraq once more and flew back to the Ka ba in Makkah. Then Angel Jibril approached Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) with two vessels, one with milk and one with wine. The Prophet chose the milk and drank it. The Angel Jibril knew that the Prophet had passed a special test, as he chose the drink that was good and pure for him, not the other one, which was forbidden. Jibril took the Prophet to the heavens. 1 One night, the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) fell into a deep sleep by the Ka'ba. The Angel Jibril took Muhammad (pbuh) to the first heaven. There they met another angel, the Gatekeeper, and the Prophet Adam (pbuh). Muhammad (pbuh) felt too embarrassed to go back again. Jibril smiled, because Muhammad (pbuh) had learned an important lesson - that God will listen to people s requests. Then Jibril took Muhammad (pbuh) beyond the stars and up to the second Heaven where he met the Prophets Isa (pbuh) and his cousin Yihya (pbuh). So Muhammad (pbuh) went back to ask Allah for another reduction. The number of prayers was brought down to thirty, then twenty, then ten, then five, but still Musa (pbuh) was worried and told him to ask for the prayers to be reduced even more. Next, Jibril took Muhammad up to the third Heaven where he met Yusuf (pbuh) the prophet who was thrown into a well by his jealous brothers, and was sold as a slave in Egypt. Muhammad (pbuh) went back into the presence of Allah. When he returned, he told Musa (pbuh) that Allah had reduced prayer to forty times a day, but Musa (pbuh) said that he should go back to Allah and ask for a further reduction. Jibril took Muhammad through the seventh Heaven to Sidrat ul Muntaha the outermost and uppermost boundary of Allah's creation. Beyond that tree lies Jannah. And finally, in the seventh Heaven, Muhammad (pbuh) met the Prophet Ibrahim (pbuh) at the Bayt al- Mamur - where the angels gather to worship Allah. In the fifth Heaven, he met the Prophet Haroon (pbuh), the brother of Musa (pbuh). In the sixth Heaven, he met the Prophet Musa (pbuh). 19
