The Sacraments of Reconciliation and Holy Eucharist are offered daily in order to assist pilgrims on their spiritual journey. A prominent image of Our Lady of Guadalupe will direct your gaze toward her Divine Son, present in the tabernacle. Every detail has a special meaning. For example: 1 The constellations in the dome match the constellations that illumined the night sky on December 12, 1531 when Our Lady last appeared. 1 The devotional areas include paintings and first class relics of Saints and Blesseds. 11 12 13 14 The Memorial to the Unborn and Mother of the Unborn Devotional Area Dedicated to babies who were not brought to full term, the Memorial stands as a testimony to the dignity of all human life. Interred in the mausoleum walls are the earthly remains of such children. Please observe a reverential silence. Our Lady of Guadalupe, Mother of the Unborn, cradles three babies in her arms. Guardian Angel of the Unborn cradles a baby, with two children standing on either side of the Angel. Stations of the Cross The Stations recall Jesus final hours. In contemplation and prayer at each station, you are invited to walk with Jesus on His journey to Calvary. ROSARY WALK Beautiful tiles depicting the Mysteries of the Rosary will assist you in praying the Rosary and meditating upon major events in the lives of Jesus and Mary. Plaques display the Hail Mary in four languages. As you return to the meditation trail, recall Raymond Leo Cardinal Burke s words: The Shrine should be a place of pilgrimage, an extraordinary place to which the faithful might come at any time, but especially in times of special joy and of special need, to be renewed in faith and grace. It is our hope and prayer that the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe will be that place for you, today and always. Fr. John A. Pilgrims May Gain Plenary Indulgences Affiliation with the Papal Basilica of Saint Mary Major in Rome His Eminence Raymond Leo Cardinal Burke, Founder of the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe, announced on July 31, 2011, that the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe in La Crosse has been affiliated to the Papal Basilica of Saint Mary Major in Rome. With this affiliation comes the opportunity for pilgrims visiting the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe to gain plenary indulgences, under the usual conditions. A plenary indulgence is the entire remission of temporal punishment due to sin, the guilt of which has been forgiven. "With the affiliation comes a most generous grant of indulgences, so that pilgrims to this church of Our Lady of Guadalupe may draw more fully upon the rich treasury of the merits of the Passion and Death of Our Lord Jesus Christ, and of His Sorrowful Mother and of all the saints who have shared with Him, to an heroic degree, in His Suffering and Dying. In gratitude, let us pray, in a special way today, for the intentions of our Holy Father. Let us also hasten to draw upon his rich gift to us for the sake of the salvation of souls, especially the souls of our brothers and sisters in Purgatory. -- Raymond Leo Cardinal Burke Plenary Indulgences may be gained at the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe on the following days: 1. On August 5, the patronal feast day of the Basilica of St. Mary Major in Rome; 2. On December 12, the patronal feast day of the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe; 3. On all solemnities of the Blessed Virgin Mary, namely: January 1 (Mother of God), March 25 (Annunciation), August 15 (Assumption), and December 8 (Immaculate Conception); 4. On any day chosen by a pilgrim once a year; 5. As many times during the year as the faithful are part of an organized pilgrimage to the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe in La Crosse for purposes of devotion, reform of life, growth in holiness and greater communion with the Holy Father and all the members of the Church, through the intercession of the Virgin Mother of God and Mother of the Church, each of the participants in the pilgrimage may gain a plenary indulgence. Conditions for gaining the Plenary Indulgence are the following: visit to the Shrine Church, the prayer of the Creed and one Our Father during the visit, together with the usual conditions for gaining a plenary indulgence, namely: sacramental Confession, Holy Communion and a prayer for the intentions of the Holy Father (for example, one Our Father and one Hail Mary), fulfilled within about 20 days (before or after) of the prescribed work (i.e. visit to the Shrine Church), in addition to detachment from all sin, including venial sin. Sacramental Confession and Holy Communion (within Mass) are available at the Shrine daily.
