The Prophecies of Isaiah 86 Lesson 34 Entering into the fourth part of the second section of Vision 22, the Lord calls for all of Israel to shout joyfully because the Servant will bring salvation to the Jews and to the Gentiles. Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4 A remnant of the The Servant will Jews will believe suffer and then He in the Servant and will be exalted. be exalted. Isaiah 51:1-52:12 Isaiah 52:13-53:12 Because the Jews reject the Servant, He takes salvation to the Gentiles. Isaiah 49-50 The Servant will bring salvation to the Jews and the Gentiles. Isaiah 54-57 Near Future SHOUT JOYFULLY BARREN GENTILES Isaiah 54:1 "Shout for joy, O barren one, you who have borne no child; Break forth into joyful shouting and cry aloud, you who have not travailed; For the sons of the desolate one will be more numerous Than the sons of the married woman," says the LORD. In Part 3, the Lord will suffer and then be exalted to His place in heaven. In dying on the cross, the Lord offers the final sacrifice for all people. He has come to offer Salvation to his bride, Israel, yet she rejects Him. She failed to spread her faith in the Lord after she exited the wilderness, keeping her faith to herself and forbidding the sharing of its message to the unclean. When the Lord appears, He will complete the work that Israel failed to accomplish. On the day of Pentecost, Jews from all over the known world are present. 87 Three thousands Jews are saved when they hear Peter s second message that day. 88 Within three months, ninety days, all of the Jews return to their homes, taking with them the message of the resurrected Savior to their own towns. In this new age, they begin to share with the barren Gentiles who are not part of the bride of God. Up to 30 AD, the Gentiles have no religious offspring who spiritually trust in the true God. Israel, who has had the specific instructions of the Lord since she exited Egypt 1,505 years before, has very few religious offspring who trust in the true God. The barren Gentiles will begin to believe and share the message in mass, far outnumbering the Jews who belong to the Lord, trusting in the true God. Near Future SHOUT JOYFULLY ENLARGE YOUR TENT Isaiah 54:2 "Enlarge the place of your tent; Stretch out the curtains of your dwellings, spare not; Lengthen your cords, And strengthen your pegs. 3 "For you will spread abroad to the right and to the left. And your descendants will possess nations, and they will resettle the desolate cities. Throughout the world, the Gentiles who belong to the Lord wil have to enlarge their buildings to accommodate the new believers who will enter through their doors. From shore to shore, Gentiles will carpet the world with the Gospel. Even in the most desolate city, in 86 ALL SCRIPTURES IN THIS LESSON ENTITLED THE Prophecies of Isaiah ARE TAKEN FROM THE NEW AMERICAN STANDARD BIBLE, COPYRIGHT (C) 1960, 1962, 1963, 1968, 1971, 1972, 1973, 1975, 1977, 1988, BY THE LOCKMAN FOUNDATION. the most remote part of the world, people will hear the message of the Lord from the lips of the Gentiles. Therefore, Gentiles, shout joyfully! Passage Summary Time of Fulfillment Isa. 54:1-3 Near Future The Gentiles will accept the Lord in large numbers. Fulfilled between 30 AD the snatching away of the Church. SHOUT JOYFULLY FORGET YOUR SHAME Isaiah 54:4 "Fear not, for you will not be put to shame; Neither feel humiliated, for you will not be disgraced; But you will forget the shame of your youth, And the reproach of your widowhood you will remember no more. For Israel, the message is not the same. Until she turns to the Lord, she has made herself a widow to her Husband, even though He is alive and well. For 1,505 years, she intentionally rejects the Lord so that when He arrives, she is parched and dry. As a youth, she, the Southern Kingdom, will be punished by the Lord by being sent into exile, but once she returns, within a short period, she will relapse into her old ways and turn her back to her Husband. The Jews who believe in the Lord, accepting His message of repentance and salvation, will not remember the self-imposed widowhood of Israel s religious leaders. Therefore, true Israel, shout joyfully! SHOUT JOYFULLY YOUR HUSBAND CALLS Isaiah 54:5 "For your husband is your Maker, Whose name is the LORD of hosts; And your Redeemer is the Holy One of Israel, Who is called the God of all the earth. 6 "For the LORD has called you, Like a wife forsaken and grieved in spirit, Even like a wife of one's youth when she is rejected," Says your God. Years before, as Isaiah is beginning His ministry in Jerusalem, Micah is prophesying just 12 miles away in the Southern Kingdom, Amos is ministering in the southern part of the Northern Kingdom in Bethel and Hosea is prophesying in the northern part of the Northern Kingdom. Hosea s message, recorded in the book by his name, addresses the relationship between the Lord and Israel. In his message, the Lord likens Israel to Gomer, the prostitute whom Hosea was instructed to take as a wife. He raised three children, each the child of a different man after he was married to Gomer. Repeatedly, Gomer left Hosea to be unfaithful to him in the houses of other men. The Lord instructed Hosea to retrieve his wife from the houses even if he had to pay a ransom to get her. In the same way, the Lord has created Israel and selected her to be His chosen nation. He will not forget her. When she strays to other gods and enters into lustful relationships with other nations, the Lord will seek to retrieve her, offering Himself as a ransom to redeem her to Himself. Shout joyfully Israel, because your Husband is calling you. SHOUT JOYFULLY YOUR HUSBAND S COMPASSION Isaiah 54:7 "For a brief moment I forsook you, But with great compassion I will gather you. 8 "In an outburst of anger I hid My face from you for a moment; But with everlasting lovingkindness I will have compassion on you," Says the LORD your Redeemer. 9 "For this is like the days of Noah to Me; When I swore that the waters of Noah Should not flood the earth again, So I have sworn that I will not be angry with you, Nor will I rebuke you. 10 "For the mountains may be removed and the hills may shake, But My lovingkindness will not be removed from you, And My covenant of peace will not be shaken," Says the LORD who has compassion on you. 209

Has the Lord ever turned His face from His Bride? Yes - not to divorce her but to chastise her. We have to understand the nature of the Lord s act of turning His face away from His bride. When this vision is delivered in 710 BC to Hezekiah, the Southern Kingdom has not experienced exile like her relatives in the Northern Kingdom. Between 790 BC and 722 BC, the Lord allowed Assyria to strike the kingdom and move about 10% of the Israelites into exile. What happened to the 10% when they were in exile? They prospered! What happened to the 90% that did not go into exile? They died fighting the Assyrians. When the Lord turned His face away from Israel, He protected a remnant and allowed them to prosper in Assyria. He had compassion on those who trusted in Him and He punished those who failed to worship Him. The Lord did the same thing in the days of Noah; He protected the family of righteous Noah and He killed all the rest of the people who failed to worship Him. The Lord always retains a remnant when He punishes His children. In 606 BC, 104 years after this vision, the Southern Kingdom will experience exile. Just as before with the Northern Kingdom, Nebuchadnezzar, between 606 BC and 586 BC, will take 10% of the people and the remaining 90% will die at his hand. The Lord never fails to express His loving-kindness and compassion on those who love Him and accept His call because He is her Redeemer. SHOUT JOYFULLY YOUR PRECIOUS STONES Isaiah 54:11 "O afflicted one, storm-tossed, and not comforted, Behold, I will set your stones in antimony, And your foundations I will lay in sapphires. 12 "Moreover, I will make your battlements of rubies, and your gates of crystal, and your entire wall of precious stones. Even though the redeemed of Israel will have to live through the fright of the wrath of the Lord upon its nation, those who fall into His care will prosper in Assyria and also in Babylon. Here, the Lord uses metaphors to describe how He will cause them to prosper. He sets Israel s stones in antimony, a metallic crystal added to the mortar that holds the stones on the walls of the building. The stones set in antimony appear larger than they really are because of the reflection in the shiny crystal material. Foundations of sapphires, battlements of rubies, gates of crystals and a wall of precious stones all metaphorically show how the Lord will prosper the redeemed of Israel. SHOUT JOYFULLY YOUR GREAT SONS Isaiah 54:13 "And all your sons will be taught of the LORD; And the well-being of your sons will be great. 14 "In righteousness you will be established; You will be far from oppression, for you will not fear; And from terror, for it will not come near you. 15 "If anyone fiercely assails you it will not be from Me. Whoever assails you will fall because of you. Upon the arrival of the Lord, the redeemed of Israel will be taught by Him and they will be great. So it is with Peter, James, John, and the other Apostles, excluding Judas and including Paul. They are the known redeemed of the Lord; however, on the day of Pentecost, 3,000 redeemed Jews will hear the Word of the Lord and will be just as great in the Lord s plan. For the next 20 years, the Jews in untold numbers flock to the Church. They are the generation who know the Lord in this passage, experience His ministry and some are healed by His hands. A Jewish group in the church begins to try to return it to the restrictions of the Sanhedrin s 613 laws. The issue is handled in Acts 15 in 50 AD but it has to be dealt with again years later in Antioch. At that time, Jews begin to harden their hearts toward the Lord. Many return to Judaism. The church flourishes while Jews retreat into rebellion against the Lord. Those protected by the Lord will prosper. The Lord will not be the one who afflicts oppressions on those who assail His faithful; assault on the Lord s 210

redeemed will come from evil sources even though the Lord has created everything that exists. However, the Lord has a promise with Israel, His Bride, that He will not break. SHOUT JOYFULLY YOUR HUSBAND S VINDICATION Isaiah 54:16 "Behold, I Myself have created the smith who blows the fire of coals, And brings out a weapon for its work; And I have created the destroyer to ruin. 17 " No weapon that is formed against you shall prosper; And every tongue that accuses you in judgment you will condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, And their vindication is from Me," declares the LORD. Even Satan and all the demons are creations of the Lord. He controls their actions, their desires, and their ability to assault those He redeemed. Notice the incredible promise made to the Nation of Israel in this passage. It is not directed at Egypt, Assyria, Babylon, Persia, Greece, Rome, America or even the church; it is a promise to the nation of Israel alone. Had it been directed at those nations also, Babylon would not be able to defeat Assyria, Persia would not defeat Babylon, Greece would not defeat Persia and so on. History has proved that from the time of this vision, no nation has prospered when they have sought to attack and destroy Israel. After this vision, the Babylonians will attack the Southern Kingdom and take her righteous people into exile. Once in Babylon, those righteous exiles will prosper far above Babylonian people. Within two years, Daniel, a Jew, will be second in control of Babylon. In the Persian Empire, Esther, a Jew, will become the wife of the king to protect her people. In between the testaments, Alexander the Great will avoid Israel and Antiochus Epiphanes will be defeated by Israel. In the New Testament days, Rome will have to tolerate Israel. After the completion of the New Testament, Rome will destroy Israel s Temple but the nation will remain on its land intact. Muslims try to rid the Promised Land of Israel but she prevails, being awarded her renewed ownership of the land in May of 1984. Although all remaining prophecies yet unfulfilled concerning Israel in 1948 indicate times of tribulation for the nation, prosperity will come when she is exalted above every nation during the Lord s 1,000 year reign on earth. In short, no weapon formed against Israel will ever prosper. SHOUT JOYFULLY COME DRINK AND EAT Isaiah 55:1 "Ho! Every one who thirsts, come to the waters; And you who have no money come, buy and eat. Come, buy wine and milk Without money and without cost. 2 "Why do you spend money for what is not bread, And your wages for what does not satisfy? Listen carefully to Me, and eat what is good, And delight yourself in abundance. Although Joel was not the first prophet of the Old Testament, the book of Joel is the oldest and the first of the Old Testament prophet books which are included by the Jews in their canon. Joel prophesies the details of the incredible tribulation which Israel will experience during the seven years just prior to the Lord s return to establish His 1,000 year kingdom on earth. Israel s tribulation is a result of the Lord s chastisement for rejecting Him and the hatred of all the nations of the world toward her. The Lord will cause all the crops to fail so that Israel will starve. Israel will have the resources to purchase supplies; however, no nation will sell to her. It is the Lord s plan to cause the rebellious nation to turn to Him for every need. From him, Israel can purchase supplies of food and drink without money. If she will come to Him, she will have an abundance of everything she needs. SHOUT JOYFULLY LISTEN TO YOUR HUSBAND Isaiah 55:3 " Incline your ear and come to Me. Listen, that you may live; And I will make an everlasting covenant with you, According to the faithful mercies shown to 211

David. 4 "Behold, I have made him a witness to the peoples, A leader and commander for the peoples. If the people of the nation of Israel will listen and answer the call of the Lord to come unto Him, they will have eternal, everlasting life with Him. The Lord s everlasting covenant with Israel is tied to the everlasting covenant with David although they are not the same. The covenant with the nation of Israel is multifaceted, containing more promises from the Lord than any other covenant in the Bible; however, each individual in the nation of Israel must do one simple thing to receive the promises of the covenant and that is to trust the Lord as his Savior. Israel will not become the premier nation of the world until every Jew alive accepts Him as Savior and that will occur only when He returns to set up His 1,000 year kingdom on earth. All the promises to Israel will culminate at that time to elevate her above all the other nations of the world. How does that tie into the Davidic Covenant? David has been dead for 290 years when this vision is given to Hezekiah through the prophet Isaiah. However, David will live again. When the Lord returns to set up His 1,000 year kingdom, the Lord will bring the resurrected David with Him and assign him the task of serving at the entrance of the Temple of the Lord during the 1,000 year kingdom. He will be a witness to the people and a commander of the Lord again at that time. David s future is set by the time of this vision and it will not be changed; nevertheless, all the individuals of the Nation of Israel must trust the Lord to enter into the covenant. Even today, in 2013 AD, very few members of the Nation of Israel connect with the Lord and accept Him as Savior. Those who do accept Him become part of the covenant entrusted to the church and therefore secure an inheritance and everlasting life as they abandon the outright rejection of the Lord by the Nation of Israel as a whole. SHOUT JOYFULLY YOUR HUSBAND S COMPASSION ON THE NATIONS Isaiah 55:5 "Behold, you will call a nation you do not know, And a nation which knows you not will run to you, Because of the LORD your God, even the Holy One of Israel; For He has glorified you." 6 Seek the LORD while He may be found; Call upon Him while He is near. 7 Let the wicked forsake his way, And the unrighteous man his thoughts; And let him return to the LORD, And He will have compassion on him; And to our God, For He will abundantly pardon. When the Lord sets up His 1,000 year kingdom, Gentile nations of the earth will still exist although they are under His direction. At that time, when the Lord has established Israel above all nations, all the Gentiles of the world will rightly run to Israel to befriend her, and rightly so. Prior to the establishment of that kingdom, all nations will hate Israel. During the 1,000 year kingdom, no nation will hate Israel. Until that time, all Jews can enter into a relationship with the Lord by answering His call, accepting Him as Savior, turning from their wicked ways and receiving the compassion and pardon of the Lord. SHOUT JOYFULLY YOUR HUSBAND S HIGHER WAYS Isaiah 55:8 "For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Neither are your ways My ways," declares the LORD. 9 "For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways, And My thoughts than your thoughts. 10 "For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven, And do not return there without watering the earth, And making it bear and sprout, And furnishing seed to the sower and bread to the eater; 11 So shall My word be which goes forth from My mouth; It shall not return to Me empty, Without accomplishing what I desire, And without succeeding in the matter for which I sent it. The plans of the Lord are greater than all the plans of Israel! He has established every minute detail of nature to work perfectly forever. All of this vision, as well as all of the 212

Lord s creation, is a mystery to Israel and the Gentiles of all time. Ninety percent of the Northern Kingdom rejected the Lord s ways and died on the land. So too, ninety percent of the Southern Kingdom will reject His ways and die on the land. The remnant will remain and return to the land in 536 BC only to pervert the Mosaic Law and therefore set the climate for the Lord s birth, life, ministry, death, resurrection and ascension. The plan that the Lord knows Israel will reject includes the formation of the church, which is the mystery of the administration prophesied in Jeremiah and confirmed in Paul s letter to the Ephesian believers. All that is prophesied in the book of Isaiah as well all the rest of the Scriptures will be accomplished in detail just as nature operates according to His plan. Israel may not understand it, but it is for her ultimate good. SHOUT JOYFULLY GO OUT WITH JOY Isaiah 55:12 "For you will go out with joy, And be led forth with peace; The mountains and the hills will break forth into shouts of joy before you, And all the trees of the field will clap their hands. 13 "Instead of the thorn bush the cypress will come up; And instead of the nettle the myrtle will come up; And it will be a memorial to the LORD, For an everlasting sign which will not be cut off." When, in the Lord s plan, the Nation of Israel becomes the nation above all nations, a parade will occur as the world transitions from seven years of Israel s tribulation to the Lord s glorious kingdom. The Lord will lead Israel out of the depths of despair with joy into eternal peace. As all of nature begins to change on that day, the day of the Lord s arrival, the atmosphere of creation will gladly break forth to protect Israel as it prepares the land for Israel 1,000 year homeland as and everlasting sign that Israel will never depart from Him again. Passage Summary Time of Fulfillment Isa. 54:4-55:13 Israel will finally trust in the Lord as a nation. Fulfilled at the beginning of the 1,000 year kingdom 213
