NOTES FROM THE PASTOR: The church had to buy a computer for the pastor s office in late spring. I had been working on a refurbished Mac, and it was a wonderful thing..until it wasn t. Anyway, I have this new machine. We get along pretty well, except for a couple of hiccups that may or may not be unique to it. One of those hiccups looks like this: I will be typing along, and all at once, the cursor stops and whatever I ve typed isn t visible. So the last sentence may look like this: We get along pret, and though I ve typed the rest of the sentence, it won t be shown until up to 15-20 seconds later. 15-20 seconds can be a long time in Einstein s world of relativity. In those seconds I have time to ponder. Did I spell all the words correctly? Do I want to change what I ve written? And even on occasions when I ve been typing an email, I have time to think: WAIT! I don t want to say that! DE- LETEDELETEDELETE. Then the remainder suddenly shows up and I can actually see what I ve written. It s a bit like the 7 second delay the industry used to in live television; there was enough of a lag in what was broadcast so that if someone inadvertently said something obscene, or there was a wardrobe malfunction, folks in charge could bleep out the word or change the image. (Apparently that s not done anymore ) I ve often wished for a 7 second delay in my own life. Have you? Thoughts or words will come out of my mouth, and I immediately think, Take that back! But one can t. Or I ve hit send, only to try to UNsend the message I ve written. We talk here at church about the 10 second rule (Counting to 10 before saying anything), listening without feeling the need to make a response, being able to have a conversation without putting oneself in the role of judge or fixer or expert. We can add to that the realization that anytime we hit send or a share on a Facebook response, we ve sent something out into the atmosphere that cannot be retrieved. Ugly or thoughtless words once spoken cannot be un-heard. While It s true that a repentant heart can always receive forgiveness from God, it is also true that we still and always will have to deal with the consequences of our actions. Maybe that s why the phrase BE STILL is throughout Scripture it can be a reminder to be still and listen or look for God, but it can also be a reminder to be still and think before we speak. Words create; we also know that from Scripture. Be sure anything you create this week is kind, helpful, loving, and caring. Here s to the church who was practicing Slow Religion before it was cool Greetings church family! We hope that all the FCC young disciples are having a great summer. We are in the process of planning a fun youth outing for mid to late July. Parent of youth can expect an email soon asking about what dates will work best with everyone s schedule. After a short break we are looking forward to having all the youth together again. Any church youth who have not been participating in youth group meetings but would like to do so, please talk to Mary Claire or Chris. We love seeing our group grow! Blessing to all, Chris Prichard & Mary Claire Williams FCC Co-Youth Directors Thank you all so much for the prayers and support during this process. I want to let everyone know that I am recuperating well and, even better, Angela s kidney numbers are looking fantastic since the transplant! I also want to thank you all so much for the meal! Not having to worry about cooking and planning meals has been such a gift to us during these last few weeks. I am looking forward to being back with you soon. Genny Jenkins

Beginning 10 July, and going for the next 3 Thursdays, we will meet to look at the traits of celtic spirituality. We will look at art, music, anam caras, prayers, charms, and the concept of "going mystical", in the sense that we are not to turn away from the affairs of the world but rather to see the unity of this world and the other. Interested? Join us at 7 pm on Thursday, the 10th of July, to learn more. Have you been using your Kroger card? Have you gotten one? Do you need a new one? We have several new Kroger cards preloaded with $5. Please contact the church office about getting one. The proceeds of our Kroger cards benefit the backpack program. There will be a board retreat on Sunday, July 13 at 4pm for officers and new committee chairs. For those who enjoy reading the sermon Bible passages for the month, they are as follows: July 6: Matthew 11: 28-30 July 13: Romans 8: 1-11 July 20: Genesis 28: 10-28 July 27: Genesis 29: 15-28; 36-42 Treasurer s Report Income for the first four Sundays in June $16,207.00 The average income needed to pay the church expenses is $10,143.24 July Deacons Dewayne Carter, Alicia Carter, Jim Gross we need three more! Please contact the church office if you are available! Children s Church We will not have children's church in July. It will pick back up in August. The board meeting will take place on July 28, beginning with the executive board at 6:30pm and the full board to follow at 7:00pm. The First Sunday Lunch will be on July 6th and will be a hotdog feast. Please bring sides that go well with hotdogs! Prayer Ministry is a group of church members who ve made the commitment to be intentional about praying for others, our church, and specific concerns that are placed in the Prayer Chalice. If you would like the Prayer Ministry to partner with you in prayer, simply place a request in the Prayer Chalice or in the offering plate. You will find colored slips of paper on the table ledge in front of the Prayer Chalice, and tucked inside the pew hymnals. All requests are kept private and confidential. If you feel God is nudging you toward exploring a deeper life of prayer, and you need a flexible program to participate more intentionally in church life, there s a place for you. Please talk with Maggie Miles in person or by text (606-776-4769), or any member of the Prayer Ministry team.

We have three youth members going to Camp Wa-Kon-Da-Ho this summer: Maggie Alden, Makayla Reynolds, and Olivia Skaggs. We wish them a wonderful, fun, and spiritually uplifting time as they join other youth from around the state!
