OF INTERNATIONAL The World Union for Progressive Judaism (WUPJ) is deeply honored to join the Houston Jewish community in paying tribute to our honorary life member Dolores Wilkenfeld. We come together to recognize Dolores for her lifetime of devotion to the Reform movement across generations and around the world. A beloved leader and mentor, Dolores continues to inspire with knowledge, strength and generosity. For many years, Dolores chaired WUPJ s North American Board, served as a Program Co-Chair of its 30th International Convention and now serves on its Executive Board. Among her many projects on behalf of WUPJ, Dolores joined forces with Congregation Emanu El to support Shaarei Shalom, the only Reform congregation in St. Petersburg, Russia. Although she has led more organizations than space allows, highlights include terms as president of Congregation Emanu El and its Sisterhood, the North American Women of Reform Judaism and Vice Chair of the board of UAHC, now the Union for Reform Judaism. She also serves on the Board of Trustees of the Jewish Federation of Greater Houston. Dolores wrote and hosted radio and TV programs for her temple and wrote and directed musicals for a variety of local civic organizations. She also continues as a volunteer tutor for Bar and Bat Mitzvah students at Emanu El, a labor of love which has been ongoing for almost 50 years. Dolores, herself, became a Bat Mitzvah in January of 1998. Dolores was married to J.H. Buddy Wilkenfeld (z l), of blessed memory, for 47 years and is the mother of Lewis Wilkenfeld and Serena Brooks, grandmother of Melody and Jesse and sister of J. Livingston and Saranne Kosberg. The World Union for Progressive Judaism (WUPJ) is immensely honored to pay tribute to our honorary life member Stephen Breslauer. The embodiment of exemplary communal commitment and ethics, Steve is loved and respected by all who have the privilege to know him. A nuclear engineer and former Navy pilot, Steve was president of SB Consultants until his retirement in 1999. He received an AB from Cornell and an MBA from the University of Houston and pursued graduate studies in Nuclear Engineering at the University of Cincinnati. Passionately committed to strengthening the Jewish community and Reform Judaism, Steve has devoted a lifetime working on behalf of WUPJ. He served as Secretary of WUPJ s Executive Board, member of its Management Committee, Treasurer of the NAC (now the North American Advisory Board), co-chair of the Yad B Yad South American Task Force and continues to offer his wise counsel as a member of the Executive Board and Audit Committee. Steve is Vice-Chair of the Board of Governors of Ben-Gurion University and has served on its American Associates board as well as on the boards of the Washington Institute, Congregation Beth Israel, Men of Reform Judaism (previously NFTB), the Union for Reform Judaism and the Houston Jewish Federation, among many others. In 2011 the Breslauer family dedicated the WUPJ Sandy Breslauer Beit Simcha Center for Progressive Judaism in Minsk, Belarus, named in memory of Sandy Breslauer (z l), Steve s wife of 55 years, whose passion and commitment were instrumental in the establishment of the center. Steve is the father of David (Elizabeth) Breslauer, Jeanne Breslauer (z l) and Roberta Herman (Mike) Dietrich. He has five grandchildren and one great-grandson. Steve and Terry Woskow live in Houston. WORLD UNION FOR PROGRESSIVE JUDAISM The World Union for Progressive Judaism (WUPJ) supports Jewish communities in 50 countries. We build and fortify international Reform congregations, support the growth of rabbinic leadership in the former Soviet Union, provide thousands of children and young adults around the world with summer camp experiences and help advance Reform Judaism in Israel.
