We humbly ask Allah to raise the rank of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh), his Ahlul-Bait (a.s) and companions and to protect his nation from that which he fears for them. Therefore, Solidary, cooperation and standing together are important and basic element for constructing for sound, Islamic society. If a sincere Muslims take a brief look at the situation of Muslims throughout the world today it would be enough to make him active in establishing unity among Muslims against Takfiri group of Terrorists, who are killing innocent Muslims & destroying the Important shrines of companions of Prophet (pbuh) & his family. The Recent attack on shrine of Bibi Zainab (s.a) was an another act of heinous crime by Takfiri terrorists. As Unity among Muslims is the Need of the Hour, when the Enemies of Islam are trying their level best to Create tension and Hatred between the different Sects of Islam, But to fight this conspiracy, the True Muslims are always working to strengthen brotherly relations between all the sects of Islam, and in this effort we as Muslims should take steps to defeat the desire of the Enemies of Islam to create disharmony among Muslims of the world. We pray to Allah (swt) for the unity among all sects of Muslims to stand against these terrorists and in favor of oppressed of all around the world. With salaams and duas, Riyaz Khawaja E I D - M U B A R A K Ramadan ends with the festival of Eid al-fitr, which in 2013 occurs on August 9th. Literally the "Festival of Breaking the Fast," Eid al-fitr is one of the two most important Islamic celebrations (the other occurs after the Hajj, or pilgrimage to Mecca). At Eid al-fitr people dress in their finest clothes, adorn their homes with lights and decorations, give treats to children, and enjoy visits with friends and family. A sense of generosity and gratitude colors these festivities. Although charity and good deeds are always important in Islam, they have special significance at the end of Ramadan. As the month draws to a close, Muslims are obligated to share their blessings by feeding the poor & making contributions to the mosques. On the day of Eid-ul-Fitr, Imam Ali (a.s) delivered a sermon in which he said: "O people! Verily this day of yours is the day when the righteous are awarded and the wretched are losers. It is a day which is similar to the one on which you shall be standing (before your Lord). Therefore, when you come out of your homes to go to places of your prayer, remind yourselves about the day when you (your souls) shall come out of your bodies to go to your Lord. When you stand on places of your prayer, remind yourselves of your standing in presence of your Lord (on the day of Judgement). And when you return to your homes (after prayer), remind yourselves about your returning to your homes in Paradise. O Servants of Allah! Verily the minimum reward for those men and women who fasted (during Ramadan), is an Angel, who calls out to them on the last day of the month of Ramadan (saying): O SERVANTS OF ALLAH! REJOICE THE GLAD TIDING THAT ALL YOUR PREVIOUS SINS HAVE BEEN FORGIVEN. Therefore, watch out in those things which serve as your re-creation (on this day and days to follow)" (Nahjul-Balaghah) I n t h i s i s s u e : Demolition of Jannat-ul-Baqi Martyrdom of Imam Sadiq (a.s) 3 Ghaibat-al-Kubra of Imam Mehdi (atfs) 4/5 Hazrat Hamza (a.s) 6 Calendar & Namaz Timings / Hussainia Updates 7 Moulana Jan Ali Shah Kazmi/ Ayaat of the Month 8 2 E V E N T S A T A G L A N C E Eid Milan BBQ Party @ Hussaini [Aug, 10-3PM] 3 Day Majalis-e-Aza Programme on 15.16.17 August with Moulana Jan Ali Shah Kazmi Sept 2nd,Majlis Shahadat Imam Jaffer Sadiq (a.s) Al-Hujjat Family Camp from 6th 8th September 2013 Limited Space (Registration Now Open!) D e m o l a t i o n o f J a n n a t u l b a q i Jannat-ul-Baqi is a much revered graveyard located in Madinah Munawwarah in Saudi Arabia. Many great personalities of the Ahle Bait (a.s), immaculate members of his household including his successors are laid to rest here: 1. Hazrat Fatemah al-zahra (s.a) 2. Imam Hasan Al Mujtaba (a.s.) 3. Imam Zain al-aabedeen (a.s.) 4. Imam Muhammad Al-Baqir (a.s.) 5. Imam Jafar Al-Sadiq (a.s.) The first attack on Baqi 1220 A.H. The attack was first engineered by the Wahhabis in 1220 A.H. i.e. when the first Saudi government was overthrown by the Ottoman government. In 1220 A.H. Wahhabis entered Medinah to demolish Baqi and tried to demolish many mosques instead of Baqi. They initially tried to pull down the dome of the mausoleum of the Prophet (pbuh) but apparently refrained due to fear of reprisal. The Ottoman government renovated the mausoleums and Shias and Sunnis from all over the world accumulated funds for its renovation. Consequently, beautiful tombs were created in Baqi and visitors from all over the world at the time of Hajj, Umrah and Ziyaarah paid their respects to these tombs. However, this was just the beginning of the nightmare for the Islamic world. The Day of Demolition The Day of Demolition as it came to be known later was the day of breaking down of all mausoleums and tombs in Baqi. In 1344 A.H. when Aal-e-Saud Saudi family gained complete control of Makkah, Madinah and its neighbourhood, they decided to wipe out the signs of the holy places, Jannatul Baqi, companions and family of the Prophet (Pbuh) from the map of Islam. For this, they obtained rulings from the scholars of Madinah to make it easy for themselves and to gain support of the people of Hijaz who were previously not ready for their rule. Destruction and Disrespect of Baqi It was on Wednesday, 8th Shavval 1344 A.H. i.e. 21st April 1925, under the commandership of Abdul Aziz b. Saud the Wahhabis surrounded Madinah and fought its defenders and evicted the officials of the Ottoman government out of Madinah and then went on to destroy the graves of Imams (a.s.) i.e. grave of Imam Hasan-e-Mujtaba (a.s.), Imam Zainul Abideen (a.s.), Imam Muhammad Baqir (a.s.) and Imam Jafar Sadiq (a.s.). Other graves were also not spared viz. those of Abbas b. Abdil Muttalib, Safiyya bint Abdil Muttalib, Aatika bint Abdil Muttalib, Ibrahim son of Messenger (pbuh.), Ummul Baneen, Ismael b. Imam Sadiq (a.s.), Abdullah b. Jafar-e-Tayyaar, Halimah-e-Sa diyyah and approximately seven thousand companions of Allah s Messenger (pbuh) Imam Malik s grave was also demolished. A Day of Grief for Muslims The Shias and Muslims should be aggrieved and sorrowful on this day (8th Shawwal) and should curse and condemn these criminals. Certainly the Proof of Allah Imam-e-Zamana (atfs) is also mournful and grief-stricken when he witnesses the desolate state of Baqi, particularly the state of his grandmother, Hazrat Zahra (s.a) and his forefathers (a.s) graves. Let us participate in the grief of the Ahl-e-Bait (a.s) and express our sense of disgust at the actions of the Wahhabis and pray for the earliest reappearance of Imam-e-Zamana (atfs) O Allah! Hasten the reappearance of Imam-e-Zamana (atfs). About heart's desires and extended hopes (Nahj-ul-Balagha) Sermon-42 O' people what I fear most about you are two things - acting according to desires and extending of hopes. As regards acting according to desires, this prevents from truth; and as regards extending of hopes, it makes one forget the next world. You should know this world is moving rapidly and nothing has remained out of it except last particles like the dregs of a vessel which has been emptied by someone. Beware, the next world is advancing, and either of them has sons i.e. followers. You should become sons of the next world and not become sons of this world because on the Day of Judgement every son would cling to his mother. Today is the Day of action and there is no reckoning while tomorrow is the Day of reckoning but there would be no (opportunity for) action. Page 2

M a r t y r d o m o f I m a M J a f f e r S a d i q a. s Name : Jaffer Al-Sadiq Ibn-e Muhammad Al-Baqir Title : As-Sadiq, Sadiq-e-Aal-e-Mohammad (a.s) Agnomen : Abu-Abdullah Father : Mohammad Baqir (a.s) Mother : Umm-e-Farwa (s.a) Birth : At Madina on 17th of Rabi-al-Awwal 83 AH (702 AD) Martyred : In Madina at age 65, 15th of Shawwal 148 AH (765 AD) Buried : Buried in the cemetery of Baqi in Madina Imam Jaffer Sadiq (a.s) was the sixth Imam of Shia. He attained martyrdom on the 25th Shawwal 14 A.H. During the Caliphate of Abu Jafar Mansoor Abbasi. Imam Sadiq (a.s) lived until 65 years. He had the longest life amongst the other eleven Imams (a.s). Thus, he is also called as the Sheikh ul Aimue. After the martyrdom of his respected father, Imam Mohammed Baqir (a.s), he undertook the flag of the guidance of Islamic hat ion for 34 years. During the period when the Umayyad government was facing in utility and there was dispute and feud with the Abbasids, Imam Sadiq (a.s) utilized this golden opportunity in the revival of the Prophetic customs, the dissemination of the Islamic culture and trained students who created epics in the Shiite history. During the said period, the theological university of Imam Sadiq (a.s) consisted of more than 4 / 000 students in the different field of Figh (Jurisprudence), Tafsir (Commentary) of Holy Quran, Kalaam, Hadith (traditions) and experimental science. It is noteworthy to mention that two of the Imams of the Ahl e Sunnat (i.e.) Abu Hanifa and Malik Ibn e Ana s reaped from the harvest of the knowledge of Imam Sadiq (a.s) In this regards, Abu Hanifa says, If it was not for those two years (the period that Abu Hanifa was the student of Imam Sadiq (a.s) No man would have been destroyed. It is for this reason that the untiring efforts, struggles and endeavours of Imam Sadiq (a.s) in the revival and dissemination of the original Islamic culture became the cause for the Shiite creed being also called as the Jafari religion. A great jurisprudent of the Ahl e- Sunnat Malik Ibn e- Aues says about Imam Sadiq (a.s) thus, no eyes has seen and no ear has heard and on no human heart has passed to see a man in virtue, excellence and (earning to be greater that Jaffer Ibn Mohammed (a.s) Abu Hanifa, one of the other four great Imams of the Ahl Sunnat says about his holiness thus, I have not seen a man more learned and jurisprudent than Jaffer Ibn Mohammed (a.s) Again, he says, On the directive of Mansoor, the Abbaside caliphate, I prepare forty questions and went in the presence of Jaffer Sadiq (a.s) and asked him about the questions, he replied to all the questions. The answers were so excellent and profound that I had never heard them from any one until that time. With regards to the virtues qualities of Imam Sadiq (a.s), it can be said: Respect and humbleness in front of the Almighty, bravery and courage in front of the merciless and the tyrants, helping the afflicted and the needy endeavouring and working for earning a livelihood, awe and dignity and perseverance and steadfast. To cite some example. 1. One day, when Imam Jaffar Sadiq (a.s) was having spade in his hand and was working in the agricultural field and he was soaked in perspiration. During this time, Abu Omar Shaibani saw the holy Imam and said to himself: Maybe, the reason that Imam Sadiq (a.s) is working himself with the spade in the field is that he is having no helper of worker to me so that I perform your work. The holy Imam replied, No, I like that one should endeavour and struggle himself to earn his livelihood. 2. It is reported from the wife of Imam Sadiq (a.s) thus, it was the final hours of the life of Imam Sadiq (a.s) when suddenly he opened his eyes and said to gather all his family members and near ones. When all of them had gathered around him, the holy Imam said, Our ( Ahlul Bait ) Shafaat ( intercession) will not reach to those who degrade and undervalue their prayers. 3. Malik Ibn Anas says : We were on a Hajj journey with Imam Sadiq (a.s). when we reached to the place where we had to were and put on the ground from the horse. When he wanted to recite the labbaik:. The voice could not come out from his throat, I told him: O son of the Messenger od Allah, it is inevitable that you should say the Labbaik. In my reply, he said How can I be impertinent and dare to say Labbaik when I fear that my Lord will not comply with my request and will reply me, no Labbaik, no. Nothing is better than silence, no enemy is more harmful than ignorance, and no illness is more dangerous than telling lies ~ Imam Jaffer Sadiq (a.s) Page 3

G h a I b at a l - K u b r a o f I m a m M a h d i A T F S 10th of Shawwal - Start of the Ghaibat-e-Kubra (greater occultation) of Imam-e-Zamana (a.s.). According to other reports, the date was 4th or 9th of Shawwal 329 A.H. Birth and Imamate: The promised Mahdi, who is usually mentioned by his title of Imam-e-Asr (the Imam of the "Period") and Sahib az-zaman (the Lord of the Time/Age), is the son of the eleventh Imam. His name is the same as that of the Holy Prophet (SAW). He was born in Samarrah on the 15th of Shabaan in 256 A.H./868 A.D. and until 260 A.H./872 A.D. when his father was martyred, lived under his father's care and guidance. As soon as the 12th Imam was born he did Sajdah (prostration) and proclaimed the oneness of Allah and the Prophet hood of the Prophet Mohammad (pbuh) He also recited the 5th ayah of Suratul-Qasas "And We intend to bestow (Our) favours upon those who are weak in the land and make them the Imams (leaders) and make them the heirs". On his right hand was written the 82nd ayah of Suratu Bani Israel "The truth has come and falsehood has vanished; Indeed falsehood (is a thing by nature) vanishing". The 11th Imam only told a handful of his most trusted believers of the birth of his son and to a few of his household slaves. One of the women slaves called Naseema relates that when she went to see the baby Imam in his cradle she greeted him with salaam and was replied to. She then sneezed and the Imam said: "Yarhamukillah - it is a blessing from Allah and you have 3 days immunity from death". The last Imam (a.s.) was hidden from public view and only a few of the elite among the Shiahs were able to meet him. After the martyrdom of his father he became Imam and by Divine Command went into occultation (ghaybat). Thereafter he appeared only to his deputies (naibeen) and even then only in exceptional circumstances. Ghaibat (occultation) of the last Imam (a.s.): The Imam's Ghaibat (occultation) was in two phase - Ghaibat-e-Sughra (minor occultation) was for about 69 years - 260 A.H. (872 A.D.) to 329 A.H. (939 A.D.) and the Ghaibat-e-Kubra (greater occultation) started in 329 A.H. (939 A.D.) and will continue until Allah (swt) so wills. GHAIBAT-E-SUGHRA (160 A.H. to 329 A.H.): During Ghaibat-us-Sughra, the Imam (a.s.) appointed four deputies/representatives to represent him among the people. After the death of the fourth deputy, the Imam (a.s.) went into Ghaibat-e-Kubra (major occultation). This was on the 10th Shawwal 329 A.H. The 4 representatives were: 1. Uthman bin Saeed (A.R.) It is said that at the age of 11 years he was a servant in the house of the 9th Imam later to enjoy the confidence of Imam. He occupied the same position of trust with the 10th and 11th Imam who told their Shias that after him they would not see the 12th Imam and would have to obey Uthman. After the 11th Imam's martyrdom Uthman moved to Baghdad and disguised as a butter seller. He served the 12th Imam for 18 months and received a letter near his death from Imam (a.s.) telling him to appoint his son Mohammed as the next representative. 2. Muhammad bin Uthman (A.R.) He continued in his fathers footsteps also acting as a butter seller. As instructed by Imam he appointed Husayn bin Rawh as the next representative after his death in 305 A.H. 3. Husayn bin Rawh (A.R.) His Kunniyat was Abul Qasim. He managed to keep his activities a secret from the rulers whilst maintaining good relations with them. It is to him that we address the 'Ariza' to be delivered to Imam. He served faithfully until he died in Sha'ban 326 a.h. revealing the appointment of Ali bin Muhammad Samry after him. 4. Ali bin Muhammad Samry He served for only three years. A week before his death he received a letter from the Imam (a.s.) telling him of his forthcoming death and that there would be no representative after him and that Imam (a.s.) was now going into Ghaibat-e-Kubra (major occultation). Imam (a.s) would then appear when Allah (swt) wills it. Ali bin Muhammad Samry (a.r.) died on 15th Shabaan 329 A.H. GHAIBAT E KUBRA (329 A.H. to present): Imam's Ghaibat is described by the Aaima like that of Prophet Yusuf (pbuh) who was amongst his brothers yet they did not recognise him. Imam is known to meet a believer on 3 occasions: 1. At the time of trouble 2. He is present at every Hajj 3. He attends the funeral of every believer who has no religious obligations pending on him/her e.g. Khums. (Continued. On- Page 5) Fizqam Photography DIGITAL ART PROFESSIONAL PHOTOGRAPHY.. Be in waiting for Imam (a.s.) at all times 3. Give Sadaqa for Imam (a.s.) 4. Pray for his re-appearance 5. Whenever faced with difficulty (whether small or big) ask for assistance from Imam (a.s.) 6. Whenever his name is heard or recited, one should stand if possible, send salaams on him, and bow. 7. If possible perform Hajj/Umra for Imam (a.s.). (Hajj- After own Wajibat) RE-APPEARANCE OF IMAM AL MAHDI (A.S.): "The actual time of appearance is only known by Allah". However our Aaima have given various indications. - It will be the day of Friday. - It will be the 10th of Muharram. - The century will be an odd number. - There will be both a solar and lunar eclipse in the month of Ramadhan but contrary to all norms and calculations. - A voice will be heard announcing the appearance of Imam, which will be heard by all in their own language. - The 5th, 6th and 7th Imams have said: "A great man from the people of Qum will rise up and take a stand. He will invite people will invite people towards the truth. Brave people like strong mountains, not fearing fighting and having trust in Allah will come to his help... Finally the enemy of Islam will withdraw... The rule of Islamic Law will be established by the people themselves". "Kufa will become barren of Islamic knowledge... whilst Qum will become the centre of Islamic Fiqh... so much so that it will spread throughout the world that not a single person will remain ignorant of the message of Islam". "These people will be the vicegerents of the 12th Imam. Their rule will continue and link with the appearance of the 12th Imam. They will not entrust the rule established by them to any but Imam on his reappearance". - Imam Ali (a.s.) took Kumayl bin Ziyad to the outskirts of Kufa and showed him where he was to be buried. He then told him that all round his grave there would be tall buildings carrying the sign of Shaitan on them. The sign would be called Antennae. - Sufyani will appear - Imam will appear in Makka and his 'zahoor' will be in two stages (similar to Prophet hood of the Prophet). * 1st Stage This will be in secret and not announced to all (only to close followers). * 2nd Stage Open announcement on the 10th of Muharram (Ashura). - In the Zil-Hajjah of the preceding to Imam's appearance on Ashura, 40 momineen who will be Imam's closest companions will realise the nearness of 'zahoor' and go for Hajj. H a m z a h A. S t h e B r a v e, U n c l e o f t h e H o l y P r o p h e t P B U H A. S There have been a number of brave and self-sacrificing officers and strong and powerful champions in the army of Islam but the bravery of Hamzah bin Abdul Muttalib is recorded in the pages of history and in fact constitutes the golden leaves of the history of the battles of Islam. Muhammed Mustafa, the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and his Ahlul -Bayt), though safe under the protection of his uncle, Abu Talib, was not immune from harassment by the infidels. Whenever they found an opportunity for baiting him, they didn't miss it. On one occasion, Abu Jahl found him alone, and used much offensive and vulgar language toward him. That same evening when his uncle, Hamzah bin Abdul Muttalib, came home from a hunting expedition, his slave-girl recounted to him the tale of Abu Jahl's gratuitous insolence toward him (Muhammed), and the latter's forbearance, of which she had been an eye-witness. P B U H Hamzah was a warrior, a hunter and a sportsman, and was little interested in the day-to-day affairs of the city. But Abu Jahl's conduct toward his nephew so roused his anger that he seized his bow, went into the assembly of the Quraysh where he (Abu Jahl) was reviewing the events of the day to his compeers, struck him at his head with his bow, causing it to bleed, and shouted: "I too have become a Muslim." This was a challenge to Abu Jahl but he figured that silence was the best part of valor, and did not tangle with Hamzah, even restraining his friends who wished to rise in his defense. Hamzah, the uncle of the Prophet of Islam, was one of the bravest men of Arabia and a well-known officer of Islam. It was he, who insisted earnestly that the army of Islam should go out of Madina and fight against Quraysh. He was the same senior and valiant officer who killed the brave champion of Quraysh Shaybah and others and also wounded a group of the enemies in the Battle of Badr - the first battle of Islam. He had no object in mind except to defend truth and virtue and to maintain freedom in the lives of human beings. Hamzah had killed Utbah, the father of Hinda, in the battle of Badr. In the battle of Uhud, she slaked her thirst for vengeance which had given her no rest since the battle of Badr. Hinda, the wife of Abu Sufyan and the mother of Muawiya, nursed a grudge against Hamzah and was determined to take her father's revenge on the Muslims at any cost. Wahshi, an Ethiopian warrior, was the slave of Jabir Mut'am and an uncle of Jibir had also been killed in the Battle of Badr. He (Wahshi) had been appointed by Hinda to help achieve her object by hook or by crook. She asked him to kill one of the three persons (viz. the Prophet, Imam Ali or Hamzah) so that she might avenge her father's death. The Ethiopian warrior said in reply: "I cannot approach Muhammad at all, because his companions are nearer to him than anyone else. Ali too is extraordinarily vigilant in the battlefield. However, Hamzah is so furious that, while fighting, he does not pay any attention to any other side and it is possible that I may be able to make him fall by some trick or by taking him unawares". Hinda was contented with this and promised that if he was successful in performing the job she would set him free. Some believe that Jibir made this promise with his slave (Wahshi) as his (Jibir's) uncle had been killed in the Battle of Badr. Wahshi, the slave, says: "On the Day of Uhud I was pursuing Hamzah. He was attacking the centre of the army like a ferocious lion. He killed every one whom he could approach. I hid myself behind the trees and stones, so that he could not see me. He was too busy in fighting. I came out of ambush. Being an Ethiopian, I used to throw my weapon like them (i.e. like the Ethiopians) and it seldom missed the target. I, therefore, threw my javelin towards him from a specific distance after moving it in a particular manner. The weapon fell on his flank and came out from between his two legs. He wanted to attack me but severe pain prevented him from doing so. He remained in the same condition till his soul departed from his body. Then I approached him very carefully and having taken out my weapon from his body returned to the army of Quraysh and waited for my freedom. In the battle of Uhud the Muslims were defeated. After their rout, Hinda and the other harpies she had brought with her from Makka, mutilated the bodies of the slain Muslims. Hinda cut open Hamzah's abdomen, plucked out his liver and chewed it up. Muhammad ibn Umar Waqidi, the historian, says that she made a fire in the battlefield, roasted Hamzah's heart and liver and ate them. Not satisfied with this, she cut the limbs, the ears and the nose of Hamzah, strung them into a "necklace," and entered Makka wearing it as a "trophy" of victory. Muhammed Mustafa (pbuh), the Apostle of God, was deeply aggrieved at the death and at the mutilation of the body of such a stalwart of Islam as Hamzah. He bestowed upon him the titles of the "Lion of God," and the "Chief of the Martyrs." Page 6
