Step-Up Bible Study - Lesson 4 HOLY SPIRIT-Plugging into Power What is Jesus relationship with the Holy Spirit? Luke 4:1,14 What does Jesus think we need? John 16:7 When does a person receive the Holy Spirit? Ephesians 1:13-14 What is the role of the Holy Spirit in our lives? Ephesians 5:18-21 Galatians 5:16-25 Acts 1:8 Holy Spirit in the Godhead The role and identity of the Holy Spirit is one of the most misunderstood doctrines of the Scripture. The Holy Spirit is the 3rd person of the Godhead. He is a person, not some mystical force, and is fully divine. The Holy Spirit indwells all believers and empowers the believer to obediently live a life of fruitfulness. The Christian's response is to yield our wills to the control of the Holy Spirit. The Spirit baptizes (one time event) all believers into the body of Christ at conversion (I Cor. 12:13) but repeatedly fills the believer moment by moment as we yield our wills to Him. (Eph. 5:18). A good indicator of our yieldedness to the Holy Spirit is the exhibition of the fruit of the Spirit (Gal. 5:22-23) Why Yield to the Control of the Holy Spirit? How can you live a Spirit-filled life? The spirit filled life is one in which the Holy Spirit is daily allowed to control and empower the believer for godly living and service. 1. Confess --What does sin do to the Holy Spirits fire in my life? 1 Thess.5:19 1John 1:9 2. Surrender--Luke 9:23 3. Walk in the Spirit by Faith Spiritual Breathing- 1. Exhale-Confess your sins 2. Inhale-Surrender control of your life to Christ and receive the fullness of the Holy Spirit by faith.

Step-Up Bible Study - Lesson 5 FISHING FOR MEN I. What is the Gospel? 1 Cor. 15:3,4 II. Why is presenting the Gospel important? A. What instruction with regard to evangelism do you see in 1 Peter 3:15? B. What does Romans 1:16 tell us about the Gospel of Jesus Christ? C. What does Romans 10:14 say about presenting the Gospel? III. What do these verses say about witnessing? Matthew 4:19 Acts 8:26-38 Revelation 12:11 Acts 1:8 II Timothy 4:2 IV. What are motivations for sharing the gospel with others from to 2 Cor. 5:9-21? What steps can I take to become a better witness for Jesus Christ? Step-Up Bible Study - Lesson 6 WHO IS YOUR LORD?

I. What is the Lordship of Christ? List some synonyms for the word "Lord" II. Why should we allow Christ to be Lord? Colossians 1:15-18 Philippians 3:7-11 James 4:7-8 Philippians 2:9-11 I Corinthians 8:5-6 Luke 6:46-49 Revelation 5:9 Luke 9:23-26 Matthew 6:33 III. Identify any area (attitude/action) that Christ is not in control of in your life (i.e., social life, finances, school, goals, thought life, personal purity) 3. Confess to God that you have been in control of your life in these areas 4. Commit these areas to Christ V. How to keep Christ Lord? Attack problem areas: 1. Make a list of all areas you have difficulty allowing Christ to control 2. Pick a specific area that you have a particularly difficult time submitting to Christ 3. Develop a plan to combat that area (specific) 4. Get someone to hold you accountable to your plan Suggested Memeory Verse: Luke 6:46 Lesson 7 Jesus' Purpose and Ministry

What purpose are you living for? What was Jesus' purpose? Luke 19:10 What was the intended scope of His ministry? John 3:16 If you were Jesus and were trying to impact the whole world, how would you go about it. At the end of His three year public ministry, Jesus died on the cross and was resurrected. Why do you think He waited three years before dying? Why did He appoint the twelve apostles? Mark 3:14 Jesus lived with, traveled with, and ministered with the twelve disciples. Why did He spend most of His time with these twelve rather than more time with the multitudes? Who was there for Jesus' last command? Matthew 28:16-20 What was commanded? Does it apply to us today? Does it apply to you today? Why or why not? The apostle Paul wrote his letter before he was killed, not to a church, but to a man he had discipled, Timothy. What similarities do you see between Jesus' last words in Matthew 28:18-20 and Paul's in 2 Timothy 2:2? Multiplication vs. Addition (Fill in the blanks) Jesus loved helped and trained (a few, many, the world) Why? How would you summarize Jesus' purpose? How can we adopt Jesus' purpose as our own? What will it cost to adopt Jesus' purposes? What did it cost the disciples? Luke 9:23 Lesson 8
