Page 5 Sturgeon Bay Moravian Church Liturgy for a Memorial Service (Option 1) Lord, our God, in whom we live and move and have our being, Have mercy on us. Lord, our God, you do not willingly bring affliction or grief to your children. Leave your peace with us. Lord, our God, you have raised Christ from death as the assurance that those who sleep in death will also be raised. Bless and Comfort us, we humbly pray. Eternal God, accept us as your children in your beloved Son, Jesus Christ, who came into the world from you, was born a human being, and lived among us. He took the role of a servant, and has redeemed us from all sin and from death, with his holy and precious blood, and with his innocent suffering and dying. Christ has done this so that we may be his own, live in his kingdom, and serve him in eternal righteousness, innocence, and happiness; since he, being risen from the dead, lives and reigns, forever and ever. Amen. Our Savior has said: Whoever hears my words and believes the One who sent me has eternal life and will not be judged, but has already passed from death into life, Savior of the world, lead us in paths of righteousness for your name s sake.

Page 6 We do not live to ourselves and we do not die to ourselves. If we live, it is for the Lord that we live; and if we die, it is for the Lord that we die. So whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord, for Christ died, rose from death, and lives again in order to be Lord of the living and of the dead. Living Redeemer, we find our hope in you. As a father has compassion on his children, so God has compassion on those who honor him; for he knows how we were formed, he remembers that we are dust. As a mother comforts her child, so will I comfort you, says the Lord. The Lord lifts up those who are bowed down, and sustains those who are bereaved. And God will wipe away all tears from their eyes. The steadfast love of the Lord lasts forever, and his goodness endures for all generations. Glory be to the Father, and to the son and to the Holy Spirit; As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. The Committal Service Lord, have mercy upon us; Christ, have mercy upon us. Lord, have mercy upon us. Christ, hear us. Lord God, Father, hear us as we pray.

Page 7 Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen. Lord God, son, the Savior of the world, Be gracious unto us. By your human birth; By your prayers and tears; By the grief and anguish of your soul; By your cross and suffering; By your atoning death; By your rest in the grave; By your triumphant resurrection; By your divine presence; By your coming again to your church on earth, or our being called home to you. Bless and comfort us, gracious Lord and God. Lord God, Holy Spirit, Abide with us forever. Amen. I am the resurrection and the life, says the Lord. Those who believe in me will live, even though they die; and those who

Page 8 live and believe in me will never die. Therefore, blessed are the dead who die in the Lord. Yes, says the Spirit, they will rest from their labor. Where, death, is your victory? Where, grave, is your sting? It is sin which gives death its power, and it is the Law which gives sin its strength. All thanks to God, who delivered us from the fear of death, the power of sin, and the condemnation of the Law. Thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. We now commit this body to the ground, in sure and certain hope of the resurrection of all believers to eternal life through our Lord Jesus Christ. He shall change our weak, mortal bodies and make them like his own glorious body, using that power by which he is able to bring all things under his rule. Keep us in everlasting fellowship with the heavenly Church Triumphant, and let us rest together in your presence from our labors. Hear us, gracious Lord and God. Glory be to him who is the Resurrection and the Life. Even though we die, he gives us life now and forever. Glory be to Christ, in the Church which waits for him on earth, and in the church which is around him in heaven, forever and ever. Amen. May the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, keep your hearts and minds in the knowledge and love of God, and of the Son, Jesus Christ, our Lord; and the blessing of God Almighty, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, be with you all. Amen.

Page 9 EASTER LITURGY (Option 2) The Lord is risen! The Lord is risen indeed! Sing this aloud, proclaim it to the ends of the earth: The Lord has set his people free. Praise the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! By God s great mercy we are given new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading. Praise, honor, glory, and power to the One seated on the throne, and to the Lamb, forever and ever!

Page 10 Jesus was handed over to death for our sins, And was raised to life for our justification. Then what can separate us from the love of Christ? Can affliction or hardship? Can persecution, hunger, nakedness, peril, or sword? No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Christ, who loved us. For we are convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor rulers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor powers, nor heights, nor depths, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. We have been buried with him by baptism into death, so that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life. For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we will certainly be united with him in a resurrection like his. We do not live to ourselves, and we do not die to ourselves. If we live, it is for the Lord that we live; and if we die, it is for the Lord that we die. So whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord, for Christ died, rose from death, and lives again in order to be Lord of the living and of the dead.

Page 11 We do not want you to be in any doubt about those who have died, or to grieve over them as others do who have no hope. For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so, through Jesus, God will bring with him those who have died. What we are saying, brothers and sisters, is this: flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God. Nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable. What is sown as perishable, Is raised imperishable; What is sown in dishonor, Is raised in glory; What is sown in weakness, Is raised in power; What is sown a physical body, Is raised a spiritual body. Then the saying that is written will be fulfilled: Death has been swallowed up in victory. Thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

Page 12 If you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are of the earth. For we have died, and our lives are hidden with Christ in God. God of peace, who brought back from the dead our Lord Jesus Christ, the great shepherd of the sheep, by the blood of the eternal covenant, Make us complete in everything good so that we may do your will, working among us all that is pleasing in your sight; through Jesus Christ, to whom be the glory forever and ever. Amen.
