Psalm 78A O Come, My People 1. O come, my people, to my law Attentively give ear; The words that from my mouth proceed Incline yourselves to hear. My mouth will speak a parable, The sayings dark of old, Which we have listened to and known As by our fathers told. 2. We ll from their children hide them not, But tell the age to come The praises of the LORD, His strength, The wonders He has done. His word He unto Jacob gave, His law to Israel, Which He our fathers did command To teach their children well. 3. That children yet unborn might know, And their descendants lead, To trust in God, recall God s works, And His commandments heed; And not be what their fathers were Rebellious through and through, For they would not correct their hearts, Nor unto God stay true. Psalm 78B O Come, My People 1. Psalm 78C Ephraim s Sons 4. Ephraim s sons, though armed with bows, In battle did retreat. They in God s law refused to walk, His cov nant would not keep. 5. All of His deeds they soon forgot, His miracles of might, In Egypt s land, in Zoan s field, Before their fathers sight. 6. He split the sea to let them pass, The waters stood aside; By day He led them with a cloud, And fire at night to guide. 7. He split the rocks and gave them drink, As from great deeps below; He from the rock brought running streams; Like rivers, waters flowed. Psalm 78D Yet in the Desert Still They Sinned 8. Yet in the desert still they sinned, And from the Most High turned. They tested God, demanding food And all for which they yearned. They spoke against their God and said, Can even God provide A table in the wilderness That we may be supplied?

9. Behold, He struck the rock, and out Gushed streams of water sweet; But can He give His people bread And furnish them with meat? Because the LORD heard this, His wrath Was kindled into flame; On Jacob, and on Israel His indignation came. 10. For they did not believe in God Nor trust His saving love. But still He opened heaven s doors, Commanded skies above, And rained His manna down on them; From heaven gave them bread. And man partook of angels food, Abundantly was fed. Psalm 78E In Heav n He Made the East Wind Blow 11. In heav n He made the east wind blow, The south wind did command; He rained down meat on them like dust, And birds like ocean sand. 12. He let them fall inside their camp By tents on every side. And so they ate till they were filled; Their greed He satisfied. 13. But while their mouths were crammed with food God s wrath upon them fell; He killed their strong young men, cut down The best of Israel. 14. And yet despite His miracles, They sinned in unbelief; So He cut off their futile lives, Their years with sudden grief. Psalm 78F They d Turn and Seek God Eagerly 15. They d turn and seek God eagerly When He had made some die; Then they remembered God, their Rock, Their Savior, God Most High. 16. But Him they served with empty words, And with their tongue they lied; Their heart was not sincere toward Him, His cov nant they denied. 17. Yet He, instead of killing them, Forgave iniquity, And in compassion He restrained His wrath repeatedly. 18. His anger He does not stir up. That they are flesh He knows A wind that never does return When once it comes and goes. Psalm 78G These Rebels in the Wilderness 19. These rebels in the wilderness Kept grieving Him again, Kept testing Isr el s Holy One, And so to God brought pain! His pow r in freeing them from foes They would not keep in mind - The miracles in Zoan s field, In Egypt, mighty signs. 20. He turned their rivers into blood, Which could not quench their thirst. He sent devouring swarms of flies, With frogs their land He cursed. Their crops by insects were destroyed, To locusts, all was lost. He killed their tender vines with hail, Their sycamores with frost. 21. He struck their flocks with lightning bolts, With hail their herds destroyed. In anger, wrath, and hostile rage, Death s angels He deployed. He for His anger smoothed a path, They were not spared from death; But striking with a deadly plague, He took away their breath.

Psalm 78H Then He Struck Down 22. Then He struck down in Egypt s land Their firstborn sons, their pride, Until in all the tents of Ham Their heirs of strength had died. But His own people forth like sheep He brought with guiding hand, And led His people like a flock Across the desert land. 23. He led them safely, unafraid; The sea engulfed their foes. He brought them to His holy land, The hills His right hand chose. Before them He drove nations out, From lands and from their tents; Allotted these to Isr el s tribes For their inheritance. Psalm 78I Yet They Rebelled 24. Yet they rebelled, they tested God; The Most High s law they spurned. As faithless as their fathers were, Like treach rous bow, they turned. 25. Their shrines and idols angered Him, Provoked His jealousy. God heard and turned from Israel, He spurned them angrily. 26. His place in Shiloh He has left, The tent He made with men. To exile He gave up His strength, To foes His glory then. 27. He gave His people to the sword, Allowed them to be killed. Against His own inheritance With anger He was filled. 28. Their young men were devoured by fire, Their maidens left unwed; And when their priests fell by the sword, No tears their widows shed. Psalm 78J As When Wine Makes the Soldier Bold 29. As when wine makes the soldier bold, As one wakes with a start; The Lord drove back His enemies, Whose shame shall not depart. 30. Then He rejected Joseph s tent, The tribe of Ephraim. But He the tribe of Judah chose, Mount Zion, loved by Him. 31. Like heights He built His holy place, Forever firm to keep. He for His servant David chose, Took him from guarding sheep. 32. From tending ewes He brought him out To shepherd Jacob well, To care for His inheritance, His chosen Israel. 33. So with integrity of heart Them faithfully he fed; And with his understanding hands, He guided as he led. Psalm 105A O Thank the LORD (Call On His Name) 1. O thank the LORD, call on His name; His deeds declare to all. O sing to Him, sing praise to Him; His wondrous works recall. 2. Let hearts that seek the LORD rejoice, His holy name adore. O seek the LORD, and seek His strength; His face seek evermore. 3. Remember all His wondrous deeds, The works that He has done, The righteous judgments of His mouth, His miracles each one 4. O you, the seed of Abraham, God s servant you, his sons,

And all who sons of Jacob are, His own, His chosen ones. 5. He surely is the LORD our God, His judgments fill the land; He keeps in mind His covenant, That it may always stand. Psalm 105B God s Covenant Stays 6. God s covenant stays forever secure; He brings it to mind, so shall it endure. His word to a thousand descendants shall stand; Through all generations, so did He command. 7. The covenant He with Abraham made; His oath He in turn to Isaac relayed; To Jacob confirmed it, a certain decree; To Isr el, a covenant permanently. 8. This promise He made, though they were yet few: Behold, Canaan s land I give unto you To be your inheritance where you may dwell. Said while they were few and were strangers as well. 9. As they wandered from one realm to the next, He did not allow that they be oppressed. He warned kings, Touch not those anointed by Me; Do not on my prophets inflict injury. Psalm 105C He Called for Famine 10. He called for famine on the land, He broke the staff of bread. And Joseph, though sold as a slave, He thus sent on ahead. They bound his feet in iron chains; In fetters he was held. The LORD s word thereby tested him Until it was fulfilled. He made him lord of all his house, To rule his property. He gave to Joseph power to bind The princes of the land, That he might make his elders wise, That they would understand. Psalm 105D Then Isr el Came to Egypt s Land 12. Then Isr el came to Egypt s land; When Jacob journeyed west, They settled in the land of Ham. The LORD His people blessed. He made them stronger than their foes, Whose hearts He filled with hate That made them hunt His people out, His servants trick and bait. 13. He sent His servant Moses then, And Aaron whom He chose. In Ham they did His miracles; His signs among their foes. He sent deep darkness on the land, His word was not defied. He turned their waters into blood, And caused their fish to die. 14. He caused their land to swarm with frogs, Kings chambers filled with them. He spoke, and swarms of flies and gnats Throughout their country came. He gave them hail instead of rain, Their land with lightning flashed. He struck their fig trees and their vines, By Him their trees were slashed. 15. He spoke, and countless locusts came, Their fruits and leaves devoured. He killed each firstborn in their land, The princes of their pow r. He brought His people out enriched With silver and with gold; And there was none among His tribes Who stumbled, young or old. 11. The king who ruled the people sent To loose and set him free.

Psalm 105E How Glad Was Egypt 16. How glad was Egypt when they left, For Is rel was their dread. By night a fire shone bright for them, By day a cloud He spread. At their request He brought them quail, From heaven bread bestowed. He split the rock and water gushed, Through desert lands it flowed. 17. For He recalled His holy word Which He to Abrah m vowed. He brought His chosen people forth, With joy they cheered aloud. The nations lands and other s toil, He gave them for their own, So that they would obey His law. O praise the LORD alone! Psalm 106A O Praise the LORD! O Thank the LORD 1. O praise the LORD! O thank the LORD, For bountiful is He; Because His lovingkindness lasts Through all eternity. 2. O who can fully praise the LORD, Or count His deeds of might? How blessed are they who justice keep, And always do what s right. 3. Remember me with favor, LORD, Which You Your people show. O come to me, draw near that I May Your salvation know; 4. That with Your chosen ones I may Enjoy prosperity, And may with Your inheritance In You boast joyfully. Psalm 106B With All Our Fathers 5. With all our fathers we have sinned; We have done wickedly. Our fathers did not understand Your signs in Egypt seen; Though they Your acts of love forgot, And at the Sea rebelled, He saved them still, for His name s sake; His power they beheld. 6. The Red Sea dried at His rebuke; He led them on dry land. He saved them from their hostile foes, Redeemed them from their hand. The waters drowned their enemies, Not one of them remained. His people then believed His words, His praise in song proclaimed. 7. His people soon forgot His works, Did not wait for His will; But lusted in the wilderness, And God they tested still. So then He listened to their pleas, And heard their sad lament; But He, while granting their request, A deadly sickness sent. Psalm 106C They Envied Moses 8. They envied Moses in the camp, His leadership they shunned; They envied Aaron s priestly rank, The LORD s anointed one. 9. The opened earth on Dathan closed, Abiram s kin entombed. A fire blazed in their company And wicked ones consumed. 10. And they at Horeb forged a calf, Before its image kneeled; Exchanged their Glory for an ox That grazes in the field. 11. Then God their Savior they forgot, In Egypt His great deeds; His wonders in the land of Ham, Signs by the Sea of Reeds.

12. And so He said He would destroy If Moses, His elect, Stood not before Him in the breach, His anger to deflect. Psalm 106D Then They Despised 13. Then they despised the pleasant land, Did not believe His word. Instead they grumbled in their tents, And disobeyed the LORD. 14. He therefore vowed to cast them down, There in the desert sands, Among the nations cast their seed, And scatter through the lands. 15. With Ba-al Peor they had joined, Ate off rings to the dead. They stirred His anger with their deeds; The plague among them spread. 16. The plague was stopped when Phinehas Arose and intervened. This was accounted righteousness Through all eternity. Psalm 106E At Meribah 17. At Meribah they angered Him, On Moses grief they brought; For they provoked his spirit there, His speech was rash and hot. They did not heed the LORD s command That peoples should be slain; Instead they mingled in their land, Learned practices profane. 18. They worshiped other foreign gods, Became ensnared by these; They gave their sons and daughters up That demons be appeased. The blood of daughters and of sons Blood of the guiltless child Was sacrificed to Canaan s gods; The land became defiled. 19. The people thus became unclean, Defiled within their heart; For in their deeds and practices They played the harlot s part. And so against His people burned The anger of the LORD; Then His own people He despised, His heritage abhorred. Psalm 106F God Put His Tribes 20. God put His tribes in foreign hands, Those hating them had rule. And they were subjugated by Their enemies so cruel. Though often He delivered them, They always turned from Him; And following their evil plan, Sank deeper yet in sin. 21. Yet their distress He looked upon, Their cry to Him was heard. And He recalled His covenant, For their sake kept His word. Then He relented in His grace, And for His mercy s sake. He caused their captors to relent And on them pity take. 22. Deliver us, O LORD, our God; From foreign lands reclaim, That we may glory in Your praise And thank Your holy name. The LORD be blessed, yes Isr el s God, Through all eternity. O people, praise the LORD and say, Amen! Yes, let it be. Psalm 106G Book Four Doxology Blessed be the LORD, The God of Israel From everlasting to everlasting. Let all the people say, Amen. O praise the LORD!

Psalm 106H Book Four Doxology The LORD be blessed, The God of Israel From everlasting to everlasting. Let all the people say, Amen. O Hallelujah! Hallelujah!
