Water, God s word, bread and cup, prayer and song: This is where children belong. As the congregation sings, all children are invited to come forward. I Am a Child of God I am a child of God; You are God s child, it s true. Children of God are called to love one another, as Jesus taught to do. As the congregation sings, the children will go to Room 300 to work on their Faith in Action project, making Communion bread for next Sunday's service. The Head Usher today is Al Mead. See an usher if you need assistance. Nursery Care is available at 9 a.m. in Room 204 in the Education Building. Parents with young children are welcome to worship in the sanctuary or in the Kids Zone in the narthex. First UMC takes the care and safety of children seriously. We are a Safe Sanctuary congregation. A changing table is provided in the restroom located in the hallway west of the Fireside Room. Please see an usher for directions. Flowers at the Reredos: Given by Rev. Patricia Farris and David Bremer to honor our amazing youth and their families. Please fill in the Let's Connect card found in the pew racks, and place it in the offering plate. To request prayers, use the Prayer Request section on the back of the card. If there are Prayer Quilts on the north wall of the sanctuary, you are invited to pray over and tie knots on the quilts. Stop by the Hospitality Table in Simkins Hall in The Shelby Center during Coffee Fellowship today to ask about membership. Visit the Fireside Room for the exhibit God is in the Graffiti, a traveling show that represents the work of 4 Los Angeles graffiti artists presented with questions of religion, poverty, race and gender equality. If you have not done so already, please fill out a 2016 giving card (which can be found in the pew racks) and place it in the offering plate during worship or deliver to the church office. Giving to the church through your will or trust is the most common way to continue your support beyond your lifetime. When your estate plan is prepared, consider a gift. F O C U S O N Youth Ministry at First UMC January 31, 2016 tricia Lindley, Director of Children & Youth Ministry This Sunday we celebrate and worship our wonderful God, while being led by our youth, those in grades 6-12. The youth program at First UMC is a safe, Christ-centered environment where youth can gain tools to help them explore and grow in their faith. Activities are designed to nurture relationships and build a strong, loving community. This is a place of acceptance, outreach and spirituality. We have many different opportunities for the youth of our church to participate and grow in God s love and grace. We have our Sunday evening United Methodist Youth Fellowship meeting from 6:15 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. Our youth participate as Lay Lectors, Acolytes and Crucifers during our Sunday morning worship at 10 a.m. Additionally, we have our Youth Service Project every summer where we serve for a week doing home repairs or re-building across the nation. The youth ministry at First United Methodist Church is an important part of the life of our church community. Our youth continue to inspire us and lead us all in their discipleship of Jesus Christ.
