Closing hymn: 800 (Worship Supplement): Go, My Children, with My Blessing Announcements New Sunday Bible class Beginning today, the Sunday morning Bible class will take up a study of the Book of Isaiah. Sometimes we shy away from the Old Testament prophets thinking that their message was just for Israel or that what they wrote is inaccessible for people today. Neither is the case. Some of the richest, most beautiful gospel gems are in the Old Testament. So please join us as we begin this study with the prayer that the Holy Spirit would bless our time in the Word. Consider bringing a Bible of your own in which you can take notes as we go along. 2017 Bible reading schedule The daily Bible readings which will be printed in the bulletin throughout the new year are based on a plan which assigns a particular type of Scripture to each day of the week: Sunday: the Epistles; Monday: the Law; Tuesday: History; Wednesday: Psalms; Thursday: Poetry; Friday: Prophecy; Saturday: Gospels. Nunc Dimittis Lord, now lettest Thou Thy servant depart in peace According to Thy word, For mine eyes have seen Thy salvation, Which Thou hast prepared before the face of all people, A light to lighten the Gentiles And the glory of Thy people Israel. Glory be to the Father and to the Son And to the Holy Ghost; As it was in the beginning, Is now and ever shall be World without end. Amen. Thanksgiving P O give thanks unto the Lord, for He is good. P Our help is in the name of the Lord, C who made heaven and earth. P I said, I will confess my transgressions unto the Lord, C and You forgave the iniquity of my sin. P O almighty God, merciful Father, C I, a poor, miserable sinner, confess unto You all my sins and iniquities with which I have ever offended You and justly deserved Your temporal and eternal punishment. But I am heartily sorry for them and sincerely repent of them, and I pray You of Your boundless mercy and for the sake of the holy, innocent, bitter sufferings and death of Your beloved Son, Jesus Christ, to be gracious and merciful to me, a poor, sinful being. P Upon this your confession, I, by virtue of my office, as a called and ordained servant of the Word, announce the grace of God unto all of you, and in the stead and by the command of my Lord Jesus Christ I forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. C Amen. P Let us pray. We give thanks to You, almighty God, that You have refreshed us through this salutary gift, and we implore You that of Your mercy You would strengthen us through the same in faith toward You and fervent love toward one another; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. C Amen. Kyrie Salutation and Benedicamus P The Lord be with you. P Bless we the Lord. Salutation and Collect of the Day P The Lord be with you. 9 2

The Collect prayer: P: Let us pray: Lord God, You made Your beloved Son, our Savior, subject to the Law and caused Him to shed His blood on our behalf. Grant us the true circumcision of the Spirit that our hearts may be made pure from all sins; through Jesus Christ, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. trespass against us; And lead us not into temptation; But deliver us from evil Epistle Reading: Galatians 3:23-29 Baptized into the name of the triune God, we are covered with the perfect righteousness of Jesus. Agnus Dei Gospel Reading: Luke 2:21 Circumcised according to the Law, Jesus fulfilled the Law for all people. P This is the Word of the Lord. C Thanks be to God. Nicene Creed C I believe in one God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth and of all things visible and invisible. And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, begotten of His Father before all worlds, God of God, Light of Light, very God of very God, begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Father, by whom all things were made; who for us men and for our salvation came down from heaven and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the virgin Mary 3 8

P Lift up your hearts. P Let us give thanks unto the Lord our God. P It is truly fitting, right, and beneficial that we should at all times and in all places give thanks to You, holy Lord, almighty Father, everlasting God, for You have gathered us together in Your name and are with us. Your Son, our Savior, is present in His very body and blood to do for us what His name means: to save us. Therefore with angels and archangels and with all the company of heaven we laud and magnify Your glorious name, evermore praising You and saying: and was made man; and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate. He suffered and was buried. And the third day He rose again according to the Scriptures and ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of the Father. And He will come again with glory to judge both the living and the dead, whose kingdom will have no end. And I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord and giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son together is worshiped and glorified, who spoke by the prophets. And I believe in one holy Christian and apostolic Church, I acknowledge one Baptism for the remission of sins, and I look for the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen. Sanctus Hymn 716 (Worship Supplement): Now Greet the Swiftly Changing Year Sermon: Numbers 6:22-27 Beginning with a Benediction I. The LORD S protection. II. The LORD S grace. III. The LORD S peace. Lord's Prayer P Our Father who art in heaven, Hallowed be Thy name; Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven; Give us this day our daily bread; And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who 7 4

No matter how many changes lie ahead in 2017, You remain the same our loving and faithful Savior God. You have put Your name upon us that we might be Your blessed people forever. Thank You! In Jesus name we pray. Amen. Hymn: Your Children of Blessing Offering Prayer of the Church Pastor: plain type. Cong: underlined, boldface type. Dear Lord God: In this new year we look to You for comfort, hope, and purpose. We have not been this way before, but we trust that You know all things before they even come to be, and that You will direct the future according to Your gracious plans. We praise You for blessing us with Your name. We confess that this past year is a sad record of our sins against You: apathy toward Your Word, misplaced priorities, doubts, fears, and lack of concern for those around us. Yet You have caused the light of Your grace to shine upon us in Jesus. He came to take our guilt upon Himself that we might enjoy a glorious, perfect peace with You. Through our hearing, reading, and meditation upon Your Word, fill our hearts with an even greater measure of Your peace. Increase our joy and build up our spiritual strength through Jesus body and blood in the Sacrament today. Text: 2016 Concordia Publishing House. All rights reserved. Used by permission. Tune: Public domain. Move us to make the most of this new year of grace by seeking Your will in our lives. Enable us to be good stewards of the earthly possessions You provide. May we not think only of our own wants and needs, but also how we may help others with Your gifts. As You shine into our lives with Your grace, show where we can reflect Your light by telling others that Your blessings of forgiveness, peace, and eternal life are for them too. Preface P The Lord be with you. Service of the Sacrament Graciously receive our offerings. They truly are evidence of Your daily care for us. May they serve for the preservation and extending of Your kingdom here and elsewhere around the world. 5 6
