Welcome to this Place of Christian Worship Do not wait for someone else to begin worship. Pray silently for yourself, for those about you, for the poor and the oppressed, for those unable to be present, for those who will shortly lead our common worship. Latecomers may enter the Sanctuary during the singing of the first hymn or during the Response to the Assurance. Ushers are available for assistance. Please turn off all cell phones. Opening Voluntary Nicht zu schnell from 6 Studien, op. 56 Robert Schumann (1810-1856) Welcome and Announcements Mark Aquino Order of Worship Chiming of the Trinity The sounding of the chimes, invoking Creator, Son, and Holy Spirit, is an invitation to prepare for worship through a time of silent reflection. Please be respectful of those who are praying. Introit Sweet Hour of Prayer Sweet hour of prayer! Sweet hour of prayer! That calls me from a world of care, And bids me at my Father s throne Make all my wants and wishes known. In seasons of distress and grief, My soul has often found relief And oft escaped the tempter s snare By thy return, sweet hour of prayer! William W. Walford, arr. Stephen P. Schaefer Call to Worship The people stand and remain standing for the hymn that follows. Hymn, No. 371 Lift High the Cross Hymn can be found on page 8 of this bulletin. Crucifer Call to Confession Dave Carstensen 2

Prayer Of Confession Lord, we confess that we have disobeyed your Word And have not loved you with our whole heart. We have not given ourselves in love, and service. We have gone along with the ways of the world, And failed to treat others like we do ourselves. Grant us forgiveness, O Lord. Have mercy on us, and cleanse us of our offenses. Allow us to find refuge and strength in you, And make us eager to do your will in love and service. In Christ s name we pray. Amen. Time for silent prayer. Kyrie The people sing. John Weaver (1937) Assurance of Pardon Marcia Buhl Response The people stand to sing. Gloria Patri Passing the Peace of Christ The peace of Christ be with you. And also with you. Please turn to your neighbor and share the peace of Christ. It is appropriate to say, The peace of Christ be with you, and to respond, And also with you. The gesture is simple, but the meaning is profound. When we extend our hand to another, we identify with Jesus, who extended his life to the point of death to make peace with humanity (Col. 1:20-21). What s more, in the midst of divisions we symbolize our unity through handshakes and hugs (Eph. 2:14-21). Likewise, when we regularly pass the peace we practice God s call to make every effort to maintain the bond of peace (Eph. 4:3). Prayer for Illumination Callan Izatt Scripture Lesson Colossians 3:23-24 23 In all the work that you are doing, work the best you can. Work as if you were doing it for the Lord, not for people. 24 Remember that you shall receive your reward from the Lord, which he promised to his people. You are serving the Lord Christ. 3

Sermon Service Hymn, No. 343 Called as Partners in Christ s Service The people stand to sing. Hymn can be found on page 9 of this bulletin. Beecher Invitation to the Offering Olivia McCarthy Offertory The Deacons receive the gifts, a portion of the blessings God has given us, which we return unto God. Missa Tonstrinae III. Confíteor unum baptísma in remissiónem peccatorum. Et expecto resurrectionem mortuorum, et vitam ventúri sæculi. Amen. I believe in one God, the Father Almighty Maker of heaven and earth, And of all things visible and invisible. And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only-begotten Son of God. Born of the Father before all ages. God of God, Light of Light, True God of true God. Begotten, not made: consubstantial with the Father; by Whom all things were made. Who for us men, and for our salvation, came down from heaven, And was incarnate by the Holy Ghost of the Virgin Mary: and was made man. He was crucified also for us, suffered under Pontius Pilate, and was buried. And on the third day He rose again according to the Scriptures. And He ascended into heaven, and sitteth at the right hand of the Father. And He shall come again with glory to judge the living and the dead: Of Whose kingdom there shall be no end. And in the Holy Ghost, the Lord and Giver of Life: Who proceedeth from the Father and the Son. Who together with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified: Who spoke through the Prophets. And in One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church. I confess one Baptism for the remission of sins. And I look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen. 4

Presentation of the Gifts The people stand as the Deacons come forward and remain standing for the Prayer of Dedication. Old Hundredth Prayer of Dedication Almighty God, In the ways of Christ, we provide you with these offerings. As we help those in need, share your love with all people And assist in helping the less fortunate. Through this, may we continue to be thankful for all of the good fortunes That we have in our lives. In Jesus name we pray. Amen. Prayers of the People Concluding with the Lord s Prayer Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, As we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil; For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever and ever. Amen. His Missa Tonstrinae is a traditional Latin mass consisting of all five movements (a missa solemnis), composed for men s quartet. The style, however, is somewhat non-traditional, incorporating many noticeable Barbershop influences. The title is derived from the word tonstrina, the Latin term for barbershop.
