Our story today comes from Luke 17, 11-19 : Once there were ten very sad men because they had a terrible disease called leprosy. Leprosy was a terrible disease because they didn't have a cure for it and it was very contagious. That means that it could be spread from one person to another. If someone got leprosy, they had to leave town and everyone they loved, and go live with other people who had the disease. The leprosy would make their skin turn white and eventually they would lose their fingers and toes. These men where sad because they didn't have much hope. But things would soon change for these sad men. One day they saw Jesus walking down the road on his way to Jerusalem. They couldn't come close to Jesus, but they called out to him, "Jesus, Master, have mercy on us." When Jesus saw them, he said, "Go show yourselves to the priests." They did as Jesus told them and went to the priests. On their way to the priest, they were healed! All ten of them were healed! They were so excited. They ran to see their families. One man was different than all the rest. When he was healed, he was very excited, but he remembered to do something very important. He ran back to Jesus, shouting, "Thank you! I am healed!" He fell to the ground by Jesus's feet and thanked Him for what he had done. Jesus looked around and asked, "Didn't I heal 10 men? Where are the other nine men who were healed?" Jesus said to the man, "You may get up and go. Your faith made you well." Discussion Questions: Why were the 10 men so sad? (They were sick.) Why did they tell Jesus, Have mercy on us! (The sick men wanted to be healed). How many of the men were healed? (All of the men were healed.) How many men remembered to say thank you? (Only one man said thank you. ) Jesus told the man, Your faith has saved you. What is faith? Faith is the act of strongly believing something or in someone. What do you believe? In what things do you have faith? Why is it so important to say thank you? What makes you feel grateful? How can gratitude make you feel happy even when you might be angry or sad? If we believe that Source, the Light of God, is within you, how can this belief: - Comfort you when you feel sad? - Calm you down when you feel angry? - Help you be kind to others when you don t want to be caring? - Remind you to look for good in others and in the world? How can you remind yourself that you are very, very good every day? How can you remind others that they are very, very good? Say together this affirmation: I am grateful because I see God in you and me! Creative Experience #1 Sing If You re Happy & You Know It!
