From the East Dear Lodge Family and Friends, As many of you know, I swore that I would never be Master of a lodge again! After being the master of another lodge for four years the idea held no attraction. Then, I began getting involved with the brethren at our lodge and found a degree of fellowship existing there that I hadn t previously experienced. This lodge feels as much like a family as it does a lodge. The moment you enter our lodge you are welcomed and made to feel appreciated. I am honored that you have elected me as your Master and I think this has the potential to be my most memorable term. Wor. Gene, it has been an absolute pleasure being your Warden this last year. We have developed a very close friendship and I m very pleased that you will be sharing the East with me as my Chaplain and as un-official Ass t Secretary. You are going to be a hard act to follow. Wor. Gene is also going to be our Officer s Coach and we need to give him all the support we can in his new job. We have a complete line of very eager young officers and, what is most exciting is that only Wor. Mark and I are Past Masters. Bro s. Jales, Ned and Rudy are going through for the first time and bring new ideas and visions for the future of our lodge. I m convinced that we need to concentrate in bringing our newer members into leadership roles and attracting the next generation into the fraternity. My two major goals for this year are to get our lodge website modernized, and active and to develop a Five Year Plan for the future. Fortunately, we have two young men who are very qualified and eager to take on the web-site project. We are also working on our five year plan. That committee is being run by the Wardens and all lodge members are highly encouraged to add whatever ideas they may have. They have already held their first two meetings and are well on their way to structuring they plan. What Nancy and I enjoy the most about Upland-Mt. Baldy Lodge is the family feeling we get whenever we are around the lodge and I intend to continue that tradition. We have two great youth groups and our Star Chapter who support everything our lodge does. We will continue to support those organizations as we always have. We will also be doing at least two degrees in March. On the 9th we will do a 2nd degree for brother Mealad Saadeh, and on the 16th we will initiate David Andrew into our Lodge. David is the son of our Sr. Steward, so please plan to attend and show both these brothers the kind of support that our lodge is capable of. Fraternally yours, Rick Geyer, PM Master

From the Jr. Past Master Dear Brothers, Lodge Family and Friends, Well, I am now the Jr. Past Master having completed my year as Master of the Lodge. This is a culmination of three years in the Line which began in 2014 when I was installed as Jr. Warden. Throughout the years, my greatest satisfaction in being an Officer has been in introducing men to the high ideals of Masonry as portrayed in each of the Degrees. There is no greater privilege in Masonry than to extend the right hand of fellowship and welcome to the newly Initiated, Passed and Raised Brother Mason. Of all the many aspects of the Degree work we do, the part I will miss most is giving the Master s Charge in the Third Degree. So many times I have looked into the eyes of the newly Raised Brother there to see the hope, the pride and the conviction in his countenance that says becoming a Master Mason is truly the highest honor a man could ever hope to receive in this world. A bond takes place in this most sacred of moments that lasts a lifetime. As I leave the Master s Chair, I salute all the men who became Masons while I was in the Officers Line. You are the reason I was willing to accept the responsibility of Lodge leadership. I trust you will continue your honorable journey and that you will not stray from your noble calling. Always be ready and willing to stretch forth your helping hand wherever it is needed, especially to your Brothers in Masonry. Fraternally yours, Gene R. Wallace, PM

PROCLAMATION YOUTH ORDERS MONTH Celebrating 300 Years of Freemasonry This year, the Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of California reflects on the theme 300 Years of Freemasonry: 1717-2017. As we examine our commitment to the guiding principles of Masonry throughout the past three centuries, so must we measure today s commitment to its causes and consider how our actions and intentions will resonate far beyond our time on earth. DeMolay International, Job s Daughters International, and the International Order of Rainbow for Girls are built on the same fraternal values that frame our own lives. Just as Freemasonry inspires each of us to share knowledge and improve society, the three Masonic youth orders guide our young men and women building leadership skills and confidence; instilling respect, integrity, and compassion. One of the priority areas defined in our 2020 Fraternity Plan is making a positive impact in society. What better way to make a lasting positive contribution to the world than by lifting up the young people who have already turned to our fraternity and its values for guidance? It is imperative that we continue to support each young man and woman who finds a place within the family of Freemasonry. They are the future of our fraternity, and the leaders of tomorrow. Imagine what they may achieve over the next 100 years with our support today! I therefore proclaim the month of March 2017 to be Youth Orders Month in California. I direct that this proclamation be read by the master at the March stated meeting and included in the lodge Trestleboard. During the month of March, I urge every lodge to plan a special meeting or program to demonstrate their support of Masonic youth. Dated this 24th day of February, 2017.
