The Rev Matt Ernst will Celebrant December 10. acknowledging grief during the holiday season On Tuesday evening, December 5, at 6:00 o clock there will be a Service of Lights at the Arts Council building on South Madison Street in Whiteville. This community event will bring people together from various religious traditions in recognition that life s passages: death, divorce, loss of job, home, and other deprivations, have a profound effect on our lives and makes what for many is a time a joy, a difficult time. The emphasis of the service will remind us that we are not alone, nor is our experience unique, but we are supported by God s love and faithfulness as well as the friendships we share with others.

Time for personal reflection will be afforded within the music and prayers led by members of the community. The sense of individual loss(es) and need is acknowledged but is framed in terms of hope and faith. The service is coordinated by a team focused on Reimagining Health Care with emphasis on mental health. Patricia Ray is leading the team. There are 2 single mothers. Sizes were not provided but it was suggested that if we wished to give them gifts we do food cards, gift cards and items such as toiletries, scarves, socks, throws or other home items. We also continue to provide 2 liter sodas and paper products to the ANGEL HOUSE HOSPICE CARE CENTER, and detergent, Lysol cleaner, and FoodLion cards for FAMILIES FIRST. Our pantry will be open on DECEMBER 11. Just because we only open 1 day a month doesn t mean that our needs are less. Please remember we particularly need cleaning supplies, personal toiletries, meats and fruit. Staple items like flour, sugar, coffee, and corn meal are also in demand. As the holidays approach know that, with our help, Grace Church will be helping others. CHRISTMAS FAMILY, GRACE FAMILY NIGHT Our family will be helping other families have a happy holiday this year. These children recommended by Families First, who will deliver the gifts to them. Toys and clothes should be new items, and will be bagged at Church. We will be doing this on December 13, Grace Family Night. Bring bags, ribbon, and tissue paper. Bring cookies or other goodies for an exchange, and sandwich fixin s will be provided, with some seasonal music in the background. It should be a fun night! The painting could be seen as a response to the chaos in the world today. THANKS for sharing your gifts, Amy! The minutes for the last meeting are posted on the bulletin board. Our next Vestry meeting will be Dec 12 at 6:30pm.
