Brother Knights, With the approval of our Council, the dues payment schedule will be changed effective January 2018. Instead of receiving your dues notice in December 2017, you will receive it in June 2018. Your current membership card will remain valid through June 30, 2018. Your new membership card will cover the period between July 1, 2018 and June 30, 2019. This change is being made to reduce the financial stress that many families experience at the beginning of a new year. Hopefully, members will be able to pay their dues obligation on a timely basis and reduce the number of second and third notices that must be sent out. Payment of annual dues is a requirement for members to maintain their Knights of Columbus membership. Also, income from dues payments is necessary to keep out council financially strong. I want to thank Past Grand Knight John Gorman and his team for assembling and distributing thirty Christmas baskets filled with food and other goodies to families in need in our area. A note of thanks also goes out to the Wappingers Ladies Auxiliary for helping to fund this charitable activity. May the peace of Christ and the Love of God fill your homes during this beautiful time of the year. We fed over thirty families through Thanksgiving and Christmas. I would like to thank my wife, Elizabeth, for all the help she gives me with this program. Loughlin Ledger Page 5 W A P PINGERS ASSEM BLY #0770 N EWS F A I T H F U L N AV I G A T O R S R E P O R T By M. James Mortillaro, FN My brothers and friends, I hope that you all had a blessed Advent season and Christmas. A new year flush with new hopes, resolutions, and plans is ahead of us. I wish you success in achieving them! Our Assembly has plans for the coming year, and we hope you ll be involved. While Wappingers Council #1646 decided to change their billing cycle to start on July first (and thus will not send our their dues notices until then), Wappingers Assembly #0770 will continue to send Assembly dues notices in January. Please promptly send in your dues, or pay the Faithful Comptroller, SK Tom Tompkins before the Assembly meeting begins. As in recent years, our Assembly voted last month to reschedule the winter meetings, to minimize travel. They will be held on the same nights as the Council business meetings. So, the winter business meetings will be January 17, 2018 February 21, 2018 March 21, 2018 The Assembly meetings will begin at 7:15pm (to end by 7:45pm) in the front meeting room at the hall, and the Council meetings will begin at 8:00pm. We intend to return to our regular schedule in April. It has come to my attention that there is one more rescheduling this month. The Council-sponsored deceased members mass will be celebrated on the third Sunday this month on January 21, 2018. While we expect our Color Corps to participate in the mass, our numbers will be divided by another important mass that morning. So, Color Corps, please step up when Commander Lou DeFelice calls. The annual Pro-Life Mass will be celebrated that same day, Sunday, January 21, 2018 at St Patrick s Cathedral, in New York City, at 10:15 AM. Some of our Color Corps will travel down to participate, and represent Wappingers Assembly. lease let me know if you are interested in going to this mass, so we can coordinate. Looking ahead to February, Shrove Tuesday is the day before Ash Wednesday. Also known as Mardi Gras, it was the day to use up butter and meat before Lent began; I m told that the Irish used up their supplies by making pancakes on the Tuesday night. Our Faithful Pilot, Sir Knight Dave Brown is organizing a "Pancakes for Dinner" on this coming Shrove Tuesday, February 13, 2017. We will serve pancakes, sausage, and more. Starting at 5:00pm, price $8/ adult, children TBA. Proceeds to benefit Faithful Navigator, Jim Mortillaro, following the Dutchess County St. Patrick Parade, which was staged on March 3, 2017. the seminarians who we sponsor, as well as our patriotic programs. If you would like to help, contact Dave Brown at solfuego515@aol.com. Invite your friends to come down and enjoy a long Catholic tradition: pancakes for dinner! Please remember we have set up clothing donation shed which was placed in the rear parking lot. This has become an important Assembly fundraiser. All the clothing collected is worn by someone somewhere; none is shredded. Please continue to donate usable clothing, shoes, sneakers, belts, purses, linens, pillow cases, blankets, curtains and stuffed animals to our bin. Donation receipts are available.
