Love Poems to Master Kirpal Singh

-1- The world is full of beautiful things until an old man with a beard came into my life and set my heart aflame with longing and made it pregnant with love. How can I look at the loveliness around me, how can I see it, if it hides the face of my Beloved? (Persian song) I will cry to Thee and cry to Thee and cry to Thee until the milk of Thy kindness boils up. (Rumi) O Master! Whatever punishment Thou may inflict upon me, do not punish me with the agony of being veiled from Thee. (Abu L Hasan Sari As-Saqati)

-2- If the eight Paradises were opened in my hut, and the rule of both worlds were given in my hands, I would not give for them that single sigh which rises at morning-time from the depth of my soul in remembering my longing for Him. (Bayezid Bistami) Call me, and though hell-fire lie between, my love will make it easy to pass through the flames. (Abu Sa id Ibn Abi-L-Khayr) Each who has seen Your beauty fine utters honestly, I have seen the Divine. Everywhere Your lovers wait for grace, remove Your veil, reveal Your face! (Ahmad Jam)

-3- Love has come and it flows like blood beneath my skin, through my veins. It has emptied me of my self and filled me with the Beloved. The Beloved has penetrated every cell of my body. Of myself there remains only a name, everything else is Him. (Rumi) Whatever I see, I see the Beloved s beauty; wherever I look, I see His creation. Wherever I look, I see Goodness; whatever is beautiful is the Beloved s beauty. Every form that is beautiful in the world is only a sign to the Beloved s beauty. (Ahmad Jam) Reflection from Your moon-like face reaches the sun and lo! the sun is brought low by it, O Beautiful One! (Attar)

-4- O Friend, I want Your Sustenance, O Beloved, I want to serve and obey. It s my duty to obey and follow You. My life, my soul, I bestow on You. I heard the whisper of Your love once, I yearn to hear that invocation once again! (Sanai Ghaznavi) Whoever embarks on the search for a Friend must burn in this fire and wait; but each day he burns, is his day to celebrate. (Attar)

-5- We have passed our lives in search of the face of the Friend; who can find a moment s rest without seeing the face of the Friend? It matters not if the whole world in enmity turns away. We will from our Beloved s door never turn away. (Amir Khusrow Dehlavi) Your beauty overshadows the world s allure; it overcomes the desire to exist, and the universe entire! (Attar) Since none hope to meet You in this life, this hopeless search for You is best of all. (Fariduddin Attar)

-6- O King of Beauty, turn Your gaze upon this beggar of Yours. Have pity on this forlorn, helpless devotee of Yours. The heart of this poor one yearns and longs for Your life-giving glance. With Your dark mysterious eyes fulfill his desire, make him dance! (Hafiz) If once in this world I win a moment with Thee, I will trample on both worlds, I will dance in triumph forever! (Rumi) How long will You Your lovers deny? For God s sake, be our friend and deny us not Your beauty s infinite grace. (Hafiz)

-7- Just to see Thy face again, I once more took the physical form. Thy face draws my heart out with its beauty. Just to see that reflection of God I came again to this world. (Bhai Nandlal) Because of the desire to be Thy devotee once again I took this physical form. (Bhai Nandlal) You have set the boat of love in motion and abandoned it on the ocean of longing.

-8- I wish that I had wept so much in my longing to meet the Lord that the tears from my eyes had swelled into a river, and every tear drop had turned into a spiritual pearl. Then I would have placed all those pearls before the altar of my Beloved. (Rumi) Since eternity, before creation, my soul is lost in Your fascination. Not just the soul is entranced by You, the heart, too, stands in line to wait on You. (Attar)

-9- Yearning for a drop from my lover s lips so sweet, I ve waited at the door of the tavern, at His feet. Perhaps He s forgotten the friendship we once had; O morning breeze, remind Him of the old days and make our hearts glad. (Hafiz) Should the Lord and Perfect Master both appear together, at whose feet should I then prostrate myself? Twould be my Master s feet, of that be sure, for He it was who showed the Invisible Lord to me. (Kabir) Those years are the best of my life which are spent in remembrance of Thee. O Satguru, when I forget Thee those moments are like death. (Bhai Nandlal)

-10- Oh, when will dawn for me that day of blessedness when He who is all Good, all Beauty, and all Truth will light the inmost shrine of my heart? When shall I sink at last, ever beholding Him, into that Ocean of Delight? (Ramakrishna) O Master, I ve spent my whole life loving You and have no regrets. If I die in the dust of Your doorway, dreaming of You, I will have lived a full life and will die smiling there. (Hafiz) I feel repentant and sad as I know not how to contact my Beloved. He lives in the high heavens while I am a creature of the earth and miserable without Him. (Kabir) The flame called the moth but the glass pane was there. How many have died not in the fire but in the cold, crazed in longing? (Saint John of the Cross)

-11- Those eyes which are weeping for the sight of the Beloved will one day surely behold Him. In love, weeping acts as a ladder. When you make a ladder of your eyes, then you will automatically be speeding towards the sky. (Shams Tabriz) Oh, my Beloved, you will find us every night, on Your street, with our eyes glued to Your window, waiting for a glimpse of Your radiant face. (Rumi) I once had a thousand desires, but in my one desire to know You all else melted away. (Rumi)

-12- I am bewildered by the magnificence of Your beauty and wish to see You with a hundred eyes! My heart has burned with passion and has searched forever for this wondrous beauty that I now behold! My arrow of love has arrived at the target. My soul is screaming in ecstasy. Every fiber of my being is in love with You! (Rumi) O Lord, I, a beggar, ask of Thee more than a thousand kings may ask of Thee. Each one has something he needs to ask of Thee; I have come to ask Thee to give me Thyself. (Ansari of Herat) When you ve surrendered both the mind and body, there s nothing more that you can then surrender. How very sad it makes me feel to think there s nothing more I now can give my Master. (Kabir)

-13- Such is the greatness of a Perfect Master, that if the world were turned to paper, and all the forests into writing pens, and all the seven oceans into ink, they could not possibly describe His glory. (Kabir) As Your lover, all I ve ever asked for is a glance. If I could only breathe one breath with the Beloved, that would be enough. (Hafiz) All potent art Thou and can do aught, then why this delay? (Kabir) The dagger of love has pierced my heart. My Master has bound me by the thin thread of love, and wherever He draws me, there I go.

-14- To love the Master, O sister, is to love only sorrow. He murmurs sweet words while He s with you, then forgets and departs. Mira says to her Lord, bring back Your beauty. When I can t see You, that absence knifes open my heart. Come to meet me, my Magnificent One, I have fallen in love with Thy beauteous form. Enquire my name. I am known as she whom absence drove to madness.

-15- If Thou speakest not I will fill my heart with Thy silence and endure it. I will keep still and wait, my head bent low with patience. (Tagore) O Master, I know you taught us that we couldn t get to You without much effort and without Your help, but all this silence is leading me astray. (Hafiz) O Master, what kind of love has been awakened in me? I am blessed with both the bliss of meeting You and the pain of Your separation.

-16- Never again in this world have I beheld beauty like Yours. Mira says: My Lord, when shall we meet? Great will be the joy of that meeting. Why, having first plied me with nectar, do You serve me with poison now? O Master, why have You become angry with me? Recount some of my faults, I am eager to hear.

-17- O Master, I have heard that You save sinners, and rescue them from the miseries of worldly existence. You remove the afflictions of Your devotees and remove the sufferings of the afflicted. My Lord, You know my request. Why delay any further? O Master, the stars are shining: all eyes have closed in sleep; the kings have locked their doors. Each lover is alone, in secret, with the one he loves. And I am here too: alone, hidden from all of them with You. (Rabia) Friends, let those whose Beloved is absent write letters - mine dwells in the heart, and neither enters nor leaves. Mira has given herself to her Lord. Day or night, she waits only for Him. A Master is the manifestation of His Love and to love the Master is to love the Lord. (Master Kirpal Singh)

-18- My Master, the love that binds us cannot be broken. It is hard as the diamond that shatters the hammer that strikes it. As polish goes into the gold, my heart has gone into You. As a lotus lives in its water, I am rooted in You. Like the bird that gazes all night at the passing moon, I have blinded myself in giving my eyes to Your beauty. Your hope in my heart is the rarest treasure. Your Name on my tongue is the sweetest word. My choicest hours are the hours I spend with You. O Master, I can t live in this world without remembering You. How can I endure the next world without seeing Your face? I am a stranger in Your country and lonely among Your worshippers: this is the substance of my complaint. (Rabia)

-19- I swear that ever since the first day You brought me back to life, the day You became my Friend, I have not slept and even if you drive me from Your door, I swear again that we will never be separated, because you are alive in my heart. (Rabia) I go to the house of my one true Lover. When I see His beauty, I only crave Him more. At dusk I go to Him, at dawn I return. Whatever His pleasure, day and night I am His. The clothes He gives me, I wear. The food He offers, I eat. Where He wants me to be, I stay. If He wants to sell me, I want to be sold. My love for the Beloved has lasted through many rebirths, without Him I scarcely breathe. She offers herself to Him in all of her lives.

-20- My friend, He looked, and our eyes met; an arrow came in. My chest opened; what could it do? His image moved inside. I ve been standing all morning in the door of my house, looking down the road. The One I love is an herb growing in secret places, an herb that heals all wounds. I am dancing only for my Master, all I want is to please Him and keep His eyes. The gold chains I wear on my ankles are love of Him, my dancing dress is my faithfulness to Him. I ve stripped off shame and family custom to go to the bed of the Beloved. Body and mind, Mira wears only the color of God.

May your soul be happy; journey joyfully. (Rumi) Kirpalct@yahoo.com HOME: http://kirpalsingh.org/index.html
