THE PITTSBURGH KNIGHT A PUBLICATION OF THE OF THE KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS Editors: Don Turowski (daturowski@verizon.net) & Robert Conroy (bobconroy15065@verizon.net) Volume 35, Issue 8 www.pittsburghchapterkofc.org August 2011 A MESSAGE FROM OUR CHAPLAIN My friends in the Knights of Columbus: J e s u s h a s assured us that God will send us many good things if only we ask. A friend of mine keeps a list of all the special requests he makes to God and places the lists in a shoe box. From time to time he checks those lists to see what has happened. He told me recently that he was surprised to discover how many of them were answered but in totally different ways from what he expected. For example one was answered by a change of attitude towards one of his nephews. My friend's experience invites me to ask: When did God answer my prayer exactly as I asked? The answer is: rarely. But He does continue to send me good things every day. Then I remind myself that while God listens, it is essential that I listen to God every day. God bless you and your families. Fr. Naos McCool, C.S.Sp. Chaplain NEW ROMAN MISSAL The implementation of the new 3rd Edition Roman Missal will take place on the first Sunday of Advent in 2011, Nov. 27. The Roman Missal is the liturgical book containing the texts, readings and prayers recited in the celebration of the Mass. The main reason for the changes being made is that in 2000, Pope John Paul II thought that as the new millennium began it would be a good time to have a new Roman Missal. What does that mean to you as a parishioner? Mostly it will mean some changes in the responses for the congregation during the mass. The clergy will have some re-learning of the rubrics of the mass. E a c h p a r i s h wi l l b e responsible to inform their parishioners on the changes prior to their implementation on November 27. More information can be found at www.usccb.org/romanmissal. A MESSAGE FROM THE CHAPTER PRESIDENT My Brother Knights Last weekend was the District Deputy Seminar in Lancaster. We have a challenging year ahead of us. Councils do not forget to recruit one new member per month, host one First Degree each quarter and do one new program this fraternal year. There are lot of dates of upcoming training and events. Please plan to attend the Bishop Project Kickoff Dinner (Sep 30), the Columbus Day Dinner (Oct 9), Bishop Project Awards Dinner (Apr 16), Three Rivers Mass (TBA) and attend the Chapter Meetings. Plan to attend the Officers training at St Joseph in Verona on July 28, 2011 at 2:00pm. Also at the seminar, District Deputies in attendance observed the new Third Degree. This is a good degree and I encourage all to promote, support and attend this degree when scheduled. Gentlemen we now move forward. Our new officers will need to become Third Degree members with this new degree. Remember, councils (Continued on page 2) ARE YOU READING SOMEONE ELSE S COPY OF THE PITTSBURGH KNIGHT? WANT YOUR OWN? Your donations made up the majority of the funds, and we did a four day Biscotti & Piezzelle sale at St. Bernadette s Parish Festival that made up the balance. The Medallions are paid for, and the sale items bill is paid. I especially thank Fr. Tony and the St. Bernadette s Parish Festival committee, chaired by brother Knight Matt Valentine, for their support and suggestions to meet the goal.
