Saint Michael Catholic Church Outcomes of Strategic Planning Process Mission, Vision, and Priorities

Mission: Who we strive to become Mission Prayer: Glory and praise to You, O Lord. In humble gratitude for the enduring faith of St. Michael Catholic Church, we turn to You for guidance. Grant us the wisdom to comprehend Your mission for us, and the courage to joyfully bring it to completion. Transform our minds by Your truth, our hearts by Your love, and our actions for Your service. Abounding in hope through the power of the Holy Spirit, may we become a people Living for Christ. Amen.

What is Strategic Planning? Formal consideration of a desired future state Deals with questions: What do we do? For whom do we do it? How do we excel? Where do we stand, where do we want to go, and how do we get there?

What Strategic Planning is Not It is not a crystal ball It tries to anticipate the future Decisions are always made in the present It is not a substitute for prudent judgment or prioritization by leadership

Why did we do this? To clarify parish goals Develop a common understanding of our facility issues & future plans Assess the roles & responsibilities of our committees and volunteers

How did we do this? Review of Survey and Parish Demographics Ministry Area action plan workshop A look at our current Reality Vision and Measures Workshop Mission Workshop

What were the outcomes? Mission Prayer Quick fixes Strategic Direction

Our Identity Vision: What we will see as we progress A culture of discipleship, a conversion of hearts responding in joy and gratitude, a warm and welcoming parish family

Our Identity Expand the knowledge, appeal and engagement, and energy in the liturgical life of the parish How we get there: Expand the welcoming, warmth, and connections with the parish family Expand parishioner knowledge and support of discipleship and parish stewardship Expand opportunities for outreach in and beyond our parish Expand facilities to meet ministry needs, and develop the necessary financial plan

How we get there: Expand the knowledge, appeal and engagement, and energy in the liturgical life of the parish New website Highlight ministries more effectively Continuously improve LIFT into an outstanding formation experience Integrate and align our faith education efforts

How we get there: Expand the welcoming, warmth, and connections with the parish family Welcome Center Mentor program for new parishioners Increase understanding of the value of our parish school Manage the many diverse activities across our parish and encourage involvement

How we get there: Expand parishioner knowledge and support of discipleship and parish stewardship What does it mean to be a people Living for Christ? Hospitality Prayer Formation Service

How we get there: Expand opportunities for outreach in and beyond our parish This was identified as a long term goal for our parish We have parishioners doing some things todaythis will be an area of focus for expanding outreach as we move ahead

How we get there: Expand facilities to meet ministry needs, and develop the necessary financial plan Adding a multipurpose education facility with a social hall is our goal Must pay off existing debt before that can happen Will take a number of years at the current pace, but we have the capacity to do it quickly.

How we get there: Expand facilities to meet ministry needs, and develop the necessary financial plan Our average parish family contributes just over 1% of their income to the parish If ALL families averaged 2% contributions, the church debt would be gone by the end of 2012 It is within our power to make this happen.
