ALL THE PARABLES OF JESUS A SYSTEMATIC SERIES UNVEILING GODS ETERNAL TRUTH IN THE TEACHINGS OF JESUS CHRIST MEDIA REFERENCE NUMBER WNX583 JANUARY 16, 2013 THE TITLE OF THE MESSAGE: ALL THE PARABLES OF JESUS UNVEILED Parable #1 SUBJECT TOPICALLY REFERENCED UNDER: Parables, Truth, Enlightenment, Understanding, Wisdom Matthew 13:1-9 // Mark 4:2-9 // Luke 8:4-8 We Begin with The Parable Jesus Began With. It s the King of all Parables. It s Known For Being The Most Extensive Parable of All of Them Because It Serves as a Key. Remarkably Simple & Common - - Spiritually Deep and Concerning Matt. 13:1-9 On the same day Jesus went out of the house and sat by the sea. :2 And great multitudes were gathered together to Him, so that He got into a boat and sat; and the whole multitude stood on the shore. :3 Then He spoke many things to them in parables, saying: Behold, a sower went out to sow. :4 And as he sowed, some seed fell by the wayside; and the birds came and devoured them. :5 Some fell on stony places, where they did not have much earth; and they immediately sprang up because they had no depth of earth. :6 But when the sun was up they were scorched, and because they had no root they withered away. :7 And some fell among thorns, and the thorns sprang up and choked them. :8 But others fell on good ground and yielded a crop: some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty. :9 He who has ears to hear, let him hear! It s Important to Let the Parable Speak for Itself. Be careful of adopting an allegorical approach whereby we dream up an interpretation and then read into the scripture, you set yourself up for disaster. 1

As we now break open the first parable; We will want to place ourselves in the back row among those to whom Jesus was speaking (the first century, middle eastern audience) We must let the parable pass through them first so that we can get the richness and the color of what is being taught. BUT REMEMBER THIS - - YOU DON T HAVE TO BE MIDDLE EASTERN To understand the Parables because the Holy Spirit uses the eternal Word to speak to the human heart even in the 21 st century. I would love to have heard Jesus teach in this world of ours. It had to be awesome and exciting and a bit scary as well. The truth that he gave was eternal truths unlike anything anyone had ever heard before When Jesus Taught He Often Used The Real Life Setting That Was Happening Around Them. 1.) The Mission v.1-3 Matt. 13:1-3 On the same day Jesus went out of the house and sat by the sea. :2 And great multitudes were gathered together to Him, so that He got into a boat and sat; and the whole multitude stood on the shore. :3 Then He spoke many things to them in parables, saying: Behold, a sower went out to sow. The Mission of God Through Jesus Christ is Salvation; Behold, A SOWER went out to sow. The farmer / sower sows with expectation. Israel then - like Israel today - is steeped in agriculture. The land is always being made ready for farming. The Entire Mission is One of Hope 2

(a farmer farms in hope to this very day all around the world) The Soil and The Climate is All Important. Behold, a sower WENT OUT to sow. From the village, a farmer walks along a dirt path to his field. That path has been there for centuries and is as hard as concrete. Each farmer walks to his own field passing others along the way. What Is The Effect of Doing What I m Doing Preaching? Hos. 10:12 Sow for yourselves righteousness; Reap in mercy; Break up your fallow ground, For it is time to seek the LORD, Till He comes and rains righteousness on you. The Promise Is. 52:7 How beautiful upon the mountains Are the feet of him who brings good news, Who proclaims peace, Who brings glad tidings of good things, Who proclaims salvation, The Fulfillment Luke 4:17-19 And Jesus was handed the book of the prophet Isaiah. And when He had opened the book, He found the place where it was written: :18 The Spirit of the LORD is upon Me, Because He has anointed Me To preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives And recovery of sight to the blind, To set at liberty those who are oppressed; :19 To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD. The Mission Matt. 28:18-20 And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. :19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, :20 teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age. Amen. 3

Can This Soil Be Saved? I don t know but if it can, it must be broken up! A Health Issue / A Death / A Difficulty / Financial / Spiritual Crisis 2.) The Placement v.4 The First Illustrative Warning Matt. 13:4 And as he sowed, some seed fell by the wayside; and the birds came and devoured them. The Placement of the Word/Seed is in The Heart of a Man; 4 times the words some seed are either stated or implied. THIS IS SIGNIFICANT THE SOWER IS NOT AT FAULT HERE The blame is not with the sower or the seed BUT the soil (heart). The Sower Casts or Broadcasts the Seed Generously and Consistently - The seed would naturally fall onto the soil - but some would fall by the WAYSIDE which is the edge of the WAY or PATHWAY but not completely on the freshly Tilled Ground. The Placement is Critical Matt. 13:18-19 Therefore hear the parable of the sower: :19 When anyone hears the word of the kingdom, and does not understand it, then the wicked one comes and snatches away what was sown in his heart. This is he who received seed by the wayside. 4

The Thrust is: It s incumbent for each of us to seek to understand what the Bible is saying. Jer. 29:13 And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart. Jesus Interprets The Parable Matt. 13:19 When anyone hears the word of the kingdom, and does not understand it, then THE WICKED ONE comes and snatches away what was sown in his heart. This is he who received seed by the wayside. Can This Soil Be Saved? I don t know but if it can, it must be broken up! A Health Issue / A Death / A Difficulty / Financial / Spiritual Crisis??? Are You Finishing Stronger Now Than Before??? So Then Let s Pray LORD open our eyes to see You more clearly 3.) The Reception v.5-6 The Second Illustrative Warning Matt. 13:5-6 :5 some seed fell on stony places, where they did not have much earth; and they immediately sprang up because they had no depth of earth. :6 But when the sun was up they were scorched, and because they had no root they withered away. Luke 8:13 5

But the ones on the rock are those who, when they hear, (1) receive the word with joy; and these (2) have no root, (3) who believe for a while and in time of temptation fall away. They never allowed themselves to be carried by Belief all the way over to faith They only believed for awhile. Over the years I have seen this happen to many people. They seem to explode in faith and ability. Well meaning but careless people endorse them or promote them but they have not experienced any trials or beatings for being a Christian. The Reception of the Word/Seed Reveals The Condition of the Heart; These are people who, hearing a message, are very excited and very zealous about Christianity and Being a Christian. They are usually super spiritual very quickly like a shooting star across the night sky. brilliant for a moment Stones were used to delineate between the farmers fields One from another, (a boundary line). Stones and rocks were also used to shore up an indented area. Verse 6 :6 But when the sun was up they were scorched, and because they had no root they withered away. Why Burned? Because The Soil There was Shallow and So Water would congregate on the Surface and the seeds would quickly sprout and grow. 6

Jesus Interprets The Parable Matt. 13:20-21 But he who received the seed on stony places, this is he who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy; :21 yet he has no root in himself, but endures only for a while. For when tribulation or persecution arises because of the word, immediately he stumbles. The Dawkins Delusion I believe this is the case with people like Darwin, Hitchens & Dawkins (they say they were Christians once but developed out of it by the facts) They had emotional responses to Christianity but that s all. Can This Soil Be Saved? I don t know, but if it can, it must be broken up! So Then Let s Pray LORD find our hearts fertile and willing to Receive from You 4.) The Longevity v.7 The Third Illustrative Warning Matt. 13:7 And some seed fell among thorns, and the thorns sprang up and choked them. Luke 8:14 7

Now the ones that fell among thorns are those who, when they have heard, go out and are choked with cares, riches, and pleasures of life, and bring no fruit to maturity. Their Lives Failed to Develop Because of Worrying and or Riches and or Ease and over time they have no example or testimony to speak of We must be careful about each of these warnings BUT this one may be the most applicable for those of us in the West. How can we know if our hearts are not this heart? What affects us // What excites us // What concerns us // What motivates us John 2:15-17 Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. :16 For all that is in the world - the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life - is not of the Father but is of the world. :17 And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; Take Inventory of Your Heart + Check Your Course Matt. 13:12 For whoever has, to him more will be given, and he will have abundance; but whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken away from him. The Longevity of the Word/Seed is The Test of Faith; Verse 7 And some seed fell among thorns, and the thorns sprang up and choked them Weeds and Thorns and Briers will grow wherever you do not want them to. we all know that. Weeds Seem To Be Resistant to Heat and Drought and Traffic. 8

Jesus Interprets The Parable Matt. 13:22 Now he who received seed among the thorns is he who hears the word, and the cares of this world and the deceitfulness of riches choke the word, and he becomes unfruitful. Can This Soil Be Saved? I don t know but if it can, it must be broken up! So Then Let s Pray LORD you know what s in our hearts and exactly how our faith is doing 5.) the Results v.8 The Fourth Illustrative Warning Matt. 13:8 But some seed fell on good ground and yielded a crop: some a (100%) hundredfold, some (60%) sixty, some (30%) thirty. The Results Confirm the Word/Seed Being Present in a Man; And Finally - Jesus Interprets The Parable Matt. 13:23 But he who received seed on the good ground is he who hears the word and understands it, who indeed bears fruit and produces: some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty. Luke 8:15 9

But the ones that fell on the good ground are those who, having heard the word with a noble (honest) and good (supple) heart, keep it (nest, guard, stimulate) and bear fruit with patience. (in fair and hostile weather) The Sower Knows Success Will Come in Time Because the seed is alive and gives life. Fruit Can Be Expected and Anticipated. John 15:1-5, 16a I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser. :2 Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit He prunes, that it may bear more fruit. :3 You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you. :4 Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me. :5 I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing. :16 You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain, Can This Soil Be Kept Fruitful? I don t know, but if it can, it must be broken up! 6.) The Challenge v.9 Matt. 13:9 He who has ears to hear, let him hear! A Very Serious Challenge Forsaking to Gather in a Church Assembly The Responsibility of Every Human Being Who Hears The Word and Thus is Receiving The Seed The Challenge Are You Willing? 10

Matt. 13:12 For whoever has, (every one of us has been given some degree of understanding) to him more will be given, and he will have abundance (an increasing knowledge, experience and witness) ; but whoever does not have, (does nothing with what he has received = this life) even what he has will be taken away from him. So Then Let s Pray LORD I want to hear from You. I want my heart to have ears and I want my eyes to see Jesus Has Been Casting The Seed.
