OPENING PRAYER (Have someone open up in prayer) FAMILY NIGHT BIBLE STUDY Note: All scripture references are from the King James Version (KJV) unless otherwise noted. INTRODUCTION LESSON OUTLINE Welcome to Family Night Bible Study! Tonight we will discuss What the Bible Says About the Name of Jesus. Names are truly powerful. Just dropping names will bring up prevailing thoughts and images - even fear to some degree (Hitler, Abraham Lincoln, Martin Luther King, Trump and Obama). Names have power, authority and spiritual significance attached to them. But there is no name that is more powerful than the name of Jesus. It is a name that has been released from heaven that has divine implications and impact. Using the Name of Jesus is essential and crucial for every believer as we operate within the mandate and framework of the Will of God. The lesson tonight will examine what the Bible teaches concerning the necessity of the name of Jesus and why we should honor, worship and use it in our daily lives. I. God Revealed the Name of Jesus as the Most Important Name When God decided to redeem the lost souls of mankind He sent His Son (John 3:16) - and His Son is identified as our Lord Jesus Christ! So, the Name of Jesus is not just a mere title, but a label concerning the manifestation of the power of God. The name of Jesus is a powerful name because it belongs to the Son of God. He is divinity. The name, itself, convicts and causes us to transform through His power and is the starting place of our salvation in God and our relationship with God. The name Jesus means "Savior". It is the same name as Joshua, or one that delivers, in the Old Testament. It is given to our Lord because "He saves His people from their sins. Matthew 1:20-21 But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost. And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.

The Name of Jesus is feared by Satan and the Kingdom of Darkness and is supreme in overruling the secular and carnal spirit of this world. Sin, guilt, shame, sickness, depression, and all forms of bondage must back down at the name of Jesus because the name embodies the work of Christ concerning His cleansing and atoning blood shed on the cross through to the resurrection which released ultimate authority and dominion to the believer. The Name of Jesus is powerful because God, Himself, established it to be so! It is the name that is above every name! Acts 4:10-12 Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole. This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner. Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. Philippians 2:8-11 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father With the name comes power and authority! God wants every believer to know that because you are God s child and a joint-heir with Christ (Romans 8:16), when you use the Name of Jesus all of the heavens must stand at attention. All authority is given and released in the name of Jesus! When a policeman says, stop in the name of the law we know what that means. He s speaking with the authority that s been given to him. We ve been given authority in the name of Jesus! Acts 4:7-10 And when they had set them in the midst, they asked, By what power, or by what name, have ye done this? Then Peter, filled with the Holy Ghost, said unto them, Ye rulers of the people, and elders of Israel, If we this day be examined of the good deed done to the impotent man, by what means he is made whole; Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole John 1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: Luke 10:17-19 And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name. And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven. Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you. II. Salvation, Healing & Deliverance is in the Name of Jesus Proverbs 18:10 The name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.

There are many benefits in the Kingdom of God and they all start with the Name of Jesus! Salvation, healing, cessation of generational curses, promotions, wisdom, financial breakthrough and all other answered prayers commence with the Name of Jesus. You might see this God given Name as a key to unlock spiritual doors. Listen to what our Lord Jesus said in John 14: John 14:12-14 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father. 13 And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it. Look at these scriptures and biblical accounts of healing and deliverance in the Name of Jesus! Acts 3:6 Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk. 1 Corinthians 6:9-11 Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God. Acts 4:30-31 By stretching forth thine hand to heal; and that signs and wonders may be done by the name of thy holy child Jesus. And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness. The following is a list of things that we should do in the Name of Jesus 1. Accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior in Jesus Name 2. Officially give your whole life to God in Jesus Name 3. Rebuke the enemy, controlling spirits and carnal negativity in Jesus Name 4. Pray for victory in your personal issues and challenges in Jesus Name 5. Pray for success in your family in Jesus Name 6. Pray for the Pastors, Church and mission and vision in Jesus Name 7. Dedicate your time to work in a particular ministry in Jesus Name 8. Witness to someone about salvation in Jesus Name 9. Invite someone to church in Jesus Name 10. Believe God to open doors in your life in Jesus Name 11. Clean up the church in Jesus Name 12. Join the leadership ministry of the Local Church in Jesus Name 13. Use your gifts for the Kingdom of God (singing on the choir, ushering, etc.) in Jesus Name 14. Give your tithing and offerings in Jesus Name 15. Give your finances to see our New Worship Center completed in Jesus Name Colossians 3:17 And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.

III. Living Life in the Name of Jesus Matthew 18:20 For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them. Living for our Lord Jesus Christ is operating and functioning in His name! Even though we are forgiven in advance for our sins, the New Testament gives us plenty of commands and guidance on how we should live. We can see that in Paul s letter to the Galatians. Christians are not under the law, Paul says, but neither are they lawless. Paul warns the Galatians about people who would try to prevent them from obeying the truth (Galatians 5:7). Living under the auspices of the Name of Jesus is living with power and responsibility. It is living with joy and challenge. God set the parameters for our Christian life, the Holy Spirit guides us and the Name of Jesus reminds us whose authority and Kingdom we are living for. Listen to Jesus in John 17: John 17:14-17 I have given them thy word; and the world hath hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil. They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth. Jesus commanded His disciples to teach, preach, baptize to all nations and cast out devils in His Name (Matthew 28:19, Mark 16). Their life and ministry was to be in and through the Name of Jesus. They would experience God s power and presence in every part of their life. It is no different today. Allow God to have His way as you function under the authority of His great Name! "Neither is there salvation in any other; for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved" (Acts 4:12). Mark 16:15-18 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover. Ephesians 5:19-20 Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord; Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ; Acts 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. Family Discussion: 1. What makes the Name of Jesus so special? 2. Why do we need to use the Name of Jesus? 3. Give some examples of how you can use the Name of Jesus.

IV. FINAL REFLECTIONS Proverbs 18:10 The name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe How great is the Name of JESUS! The name of JESUS is actually defined as Jehovah Saves! He is our Savior and deliverer and everything in between! Jesus the Christ (the anointed one) is the one that was prophesied about throughout the Old Testament and was made manifest in the New Testament just for us! So the name His name is the most vital and essential name to have and to call on to gain access to salvation, power, healing, discernment and victory. The Name of Jesus Christ holds prominence, eminence, authority and power with God. It occupies a significant place concerning the heart of God. This is important because it indicates that the name of Jesus is an open door to our reconciliation and relationship with God. Jesus is the Name that pulls us into joyous partnership of fighting the good fight of faith and victory; of trusting God for deliverance and being delivered; of believing God for healing and being healed by His stripes. It is the Name that describes God's character, passion and love. The Name that saves, rescues, delivers, resurrects, and gives life, from start to end. It is the name of the powerful Son of God that began it, redeems it, uplifts it, perfects it, and concludes it. Thank you God for the Name of Jesus! Isaiah 9:6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. V. PRAYER OF SALVATION Does anyone want to receive Christ as your personal Savior right now? (Wait for any responses.) If yes, let s follow these simple steps: 1. First, confess with your mouth by saying, Jesus is my Lord. 2. Next, repeat this Prayer of Salvation (Ask them to repeat after you): Lord Jesus, I repent and turn from my sins, and I ask for your forgiveness. I invite you to come into my heart and life. Wash me clean and fill me with your Holy Spirit, and I will trust and follow you as my Lord and Savior. Thank you Jesus for saving me and giving me eternal life. In Jesus Name. Amen. 3. Now, declare it! Say, I am saved!!! Congratulations! You have made the greatest decision of your life and the best is yet to come! *If you gave your life to Christ, please come to the altar during altar call at the next service.

VI. CLOSING PRAYER (Have someone close out the Bible Study in prayer. Ask if anyone has a special prayer request, like an upcoming test or an issue on the job.) Family Matters (Special time to just talk!) So, let s talk! What s on your mind? This is a special time to discuss any family matters, concerns, hot topics, etc. Give everyone an opportunity to express themselves and to ask questions then lead them to an understanding in Christ. Family Night Activity (Whatever you choose to do as a family) Let the games begin! Now that we ve had an awesome Bible Study and talked about a few important (or perhaps not so important) family matters, let s continue to spend quality time together as a family! Some suggestions include board games, Uno, go for a walk or ride bikes, play charades, etc. Whatever you do, enjoy yourselves!
