KIRTLAND SENIOR CENTER The Kirtland Senior Center serves adults aged 55 and over with quality, affordable programming to provide opportunities for social interaction, recreation, fitness, and minor health and wellness services close to home. SPA & WELLNESS SERVICES Feel great! Spa & Wellness services are non-invasive and performed by certified practitioners. Services are gentle, reduce stress, and this helps the body heal and strengthen itself. Make an appointment for yourself in the appointment book located outside of the Spa & Wellness room (just across from the office). The podiatrist s appointment book is in the office. Payment is due upon completion of said service. Understand that these professionals are not paid when you miss or late cancel appointments; it s difficult to find a replacement with less than 48 hours notice. Holiday Basket Donations Sponsored by Kirtland Area Service Council Bring in your non-perishable food donation for the Kirtland Area Service Council. Donations will be used for the annual holiday baskets distributed to Kirtland residents in need of assistance. Terrarium Making class Make your own terrarium with succulents and air plants, which are easy to care for, even if you lack a green thumb! Class is easy to follow, as the instructor guides you step by step. Each month is a different terrarium. Join us Tues. Dec. 19 at 10:30 for Santa & Succulents in a black square ceramic container. Cost is $5 and due Dec. 12. (January 15 class is succulents and stones in a rose bowl.) Open Enrollment presentation for Medicare is November 8 at 11:00. The presentation is free but you need to sign up in the office. This is the time to make changes in your plan.
LAKE COUNTY SENIOR CITIZENS SERVICES LEVY ISSUE 4 Fact: Nearly 25% of Lake County s population is 60 years and older. By 2030, 33.9% of our population will be 60 years or older. Fact: Federal funding for senior services has not kept up with demographic change or economic factors. Today, the federal government invests only $29.75 for every senior. The reach of this funding will continue to erode as the population ages. Fact: Issue 4 renews the existing 0.5 mills and adds 0.3 mills to make up for declining federal funding and increasing need for services. Fact: It adds 87 cents per month per $100,000 home valuation. Fact: Lake County senior levy funding currently supports vital programs including: Home delivered and congregate meals Homemaker services Case management services Home maintenance and modification projects Health, recreation, socialization, and wellness activities at ten local senior centers Volunteer opportunities for older adults that keep seniors safe in their own homes Fact: An increase in levy funds would help to support the projected increase in older adults for current services and allow for additional senior services, such as adult guardianship services and expanded protective services for older adults. Fact: A decrease in funding would mean a significant loss of senior services in Lake County. ELECTION DAY DONUTS The Kirtland Community and Senior Center is a polling place on Election Day. The Senior Board will be selling donuts from Patterson s in the lobby for a fundraiser. PICKLEBALL - evening hours added! This activity is a hit! In an effort to accommodate the need for more playing time, the courts are open Mon., Tues, Thurs, and Fri from 10:00-3:00 for all to play. In addition, Wednesday from 1:00-5:30 PM are now open on 11/1, 8, 22, & 29 only. Due to gym usage for other activities, please be prepared to setup or take down the net on any given day. Pickleball is similar to tennis but played on a smaller court, using a plastic whiffle ball and hard paddle. Play is free to members. THE KIRTLAND SENIOR BOARD is a group of volunteers who help out with activities and events throughout the year at the Senior Center. They are advisory only, bringing forth ideas and suggestions for senior center programs. They do not set municipality budgets or spend tax monies collected from levies. They are helpers! The idea is to bring enthusiasm and awareness to our facility so that it continues to be supported by the community. They host fundraisers throughout the year such as 50/50 drawings, the sale table, and selling donuts and pancakes for large community events. They also provide subsidization for the birthday, men s, and ladies lunches, among others. They provide the birthday cake, entertainment, and more. If you are interested in becoming a member of this informal group, speak to any board member, or president, Jr. Orick, or let Jenna know in the office.
