Kevin s Comments Headline: You know that you believe. Now come and discover the evidence for why. Facts don t lie! Discover the real evidence of Jesus death and resurrection. Whether you have questions, are a new believer, or have been a Christian your entire life, you will be touched by the true story of an award-winning investigative journalist and avowed atheist who applies his well-honed journalistic and legal skills to disprove the newfound Christian faith of his wife. with unexpected, life-altering results. Starting on March 26th, I began a five-week sermon series based on the major motion picture, The Case For Christ. This moving story will not only inspire you; it will equip you to share the exciting evidence with others. I pray this series, and all the other events that will be happening here in conjunction with Easter, will serve as a tool both to deepen us in our faith and be the catalyst to help someone make the decision to accept Jesus Christ as their risen Lord. Be inviting and sharing with others as we all move toward the one event that all of creation is growing towards: the return of Christ. Our Easter services, the Stations of the Cross Event, the Easter Egg Hunt, etc., can all serve as great opportunities to invite and share with people the truth of God s love for them. Let s seize the moment! In His Service, Kevin

Student Ministry News Questions? Please contact jhenslee.scoc@gmail.com Do you know what is the hardest part about idol worship? It s easier to identify others idols than yours. The reason it is so hard to identify our own is because it becomes a natural function and sometimes essential to every day life. It often appears essentially beneficial for life, which leaves a lot of doors open to a lot of things. Make no mistake - you can be Christian and still have idols. Even the Israelites had this reoccurring problem from Exodus to Malachi. They were God s people that worshipped idols, and while at times they did not worship the one true God there were times they still worshipped God while having idols. Some of the most common idols were said to give human fertility and crop production. To them it probably seemed logically necessary to add these idols to their worship list along with God to make sure they cover all of their bases for success or to prevent their demise. It probably made them feel spiritually deep. Fast forwarding to shortly after Jesus had risen again and ascended to heaven, the early church quickly encounters this old problem of idol worship. In Acts 14:8-18 Paul and Barnabas preach to the citizens of the Greek city of Lystra who then started worshipping them as though they were Greek gods. Paul was equated to the greek messenger god, Hermes, because Paul was bringing the Good News of God. Paul and Barnabas dramatically denied and rejected the elaborate worship given to them. In 1 Corinthians 1:10-17 we can read about a dispute Paul is settling amongst the congregation of Corinth. The issue being that people were embracing their baptizers as superior figures in comparison to others, Paul being one of them. Paul stated that he was glad that he had not baptized most of them. Christians are just as prone to idol worship and idol worship doesn t always look like blatant pagan worship. Just like the early church worshipped their teachers, there are some teachers whom we tend to give as much credence to their word as to God s word. We can treat these teachers as an essential commentator of Christian doctrine and spiritual growth whether or not the teacher meant to be like Paul. It s easy to spot this in others if all of their understanding of their faith comes from these specific teachers whom they quote repeatedly. If we are not careful we can take these teachers as essentially beneficial to Church growth. Joe

Alpha Class News The Alpha Class did not have a meeting and no activities were conducted during the month of March. L o v e L i v e s On Those we love are never really lost to us, We feel them in so many ways, Through friends they always cared about, And dreams they left behind, In beauty that they added to our days, In words of wisdom we still carry with us, And memories that never will be gone, Those we love are never really lost to us, For everywhere their special love lives on. The family of Dennis Stivers finds healing in God s tender embrace and in knowing others remembered and cared. Thank you for keeping us in your thoughts and prayers.

What s Happening Here at Church? STATIONS OF THE CROSS On Good Friday, April 14th, the church will be open from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. so that the whole community may have the privilege of remembering the sacrifice that Jesus made the atrocities that he endured to enable a relationship with us and gain us a place in heaven. You may come and go, as your schedule allows, during the 12 hour period. This event is called Stations of the Cross because there will be ten stations set up in the auditorium which will take the participant from Jesus being condemned by the Sanhedrin to Jesus dying on the cross. Attending all of the stations may take about an hour but you are free to stay longer if desired. Our prayer is that these stations will bring you closer to Jesus as you examine your heart, ask His forgiveness for your sin, and open your heart to the great gift of love and salvation He has for you.
