Page 2 Narnia. The world within a world, through a wardrobe door. Narnia is more than just a fantasy world. It is a door into understanding the nature of God, our relationship with Him as our King, and our role in His kingdom as His children. When you walk through the wardrobe door, you understand how vast and incredible God s creation and love truly is, that He is not a tame Lion, and that He is good. While the Bible explains the true story of Salvation through Jesus Christ, Narnia engage kid s imaginations in such a way that it can explain how salvation works and who God is. Jesus created stories to explain spiritual truths in terms that would grasp the minds of the people of the time. He used the medium of their everyday life to share how God and his children work. Adventure fantasies are the medium children. They long for it, and will stare with wonder at you when you explain, The story is real: this is exactly what our relationship with Jesus is like. J.R.R. Tolkein once said, The Gospels contain a fairy-story, or a story of a larger kind which embraces all the essence of fairy-stories. To reject it leads either to madness or to wrath....because (of these things), this story is supreme; and it is true. Art has been verified. God is the Lord, of angels, and of men and of elves. Legend and History have met and fused. Adventure stories are at the heart of all of us who know Jesus because it was an impossible, beautiful act that freed us. Because we sometimes forget how powerful His love is. Because we sometimes what our role is as an adopted member of God s family. It is not to be a King or Queen who sits around being blessed; it s fighting for justice, for the weak, and for the love of our King. If you remembered every day that you only had one life to live for Jesus, only one life to ever fight for His kingdom, one life to prove your Faith while you still cannot see Him, but just hear His voice... Would you live it as an adventure story? That s what you are challenged with when you walk out of the wardrobe door. And that is why you walk in.
Page 3 Each day, you will show movie cues of The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe by Disney. While your director knows this and may have recruited you to guide the children through Narnia because of your knowledge of DVD players, TV s, and other technical stuff, it may be that you don t have a clue. If you don t feel confident in finding the cues, ask if you or the director can recruit a youth to help. Each day, you will: Review what is happening in the story before clip Watch Clip(s) Discuss how the story reinforces the Bible Truth Give 3 6 minutes of discussion If there is time left over, which there probably will be, you have fun activities to help kids learn their Bible Verses, their Sword of the Spirit. Field Test: Decorating Decorating for World of the Wardrobe was one of the highlights of my life. While there are lots of different ideas that will be online, I just wanted to walk you though what worked for us: The two double doors into the hallway were covered in brown paper; with a metallic gold pen, we drew small symbols of armor, Aslan, and scrolls. That Big FBI warning is not there so you can be bored for 30 seconds before the movie starts. Here s the deal: there are issues with showing movies to large groups of people. Even if you think, Oh, schools do it! That s because schools are registered educational institutions, which most churches are not The fun part is that there are corporations that license churches to show movies. The not so fun part is that they charge you. The other fun part is that once you have the license you can show movies all year long, hosting different outreach events for all kinds of movies for adults and children! Check - your church might already have a license! If not, there is a plan B, because it s VBS, and there s always a plan B. There s a great website called WingClips.com that has pre-licensed clips from Narnia that Disney has approved to be shown in Churches as examples. There are several clips from other movies as well. These clips have been released, so you are in a legal clear zone if you show these at Knights of God. We decorated the hallway with lots of greenery, fake plants, and 8 strings of ivy, 2 of which were spun around an antique looking floor lamp (lamppost) The actual room we showed the clips in had a fur rug, a table, and tea cups for a house fit for a faun! For an extra touch, consider some fun artwork (family photo of a faun), a well, fake snow on the ground the first two days, and Turkish delight!
Page 4 Day 1 Introduction : The Bible is Our Sword What does something written ages ago have to do with me? Many people have difficulty answering this question. So did Lucy, Susan, Peter, and Edmund. When Lucy enters Narnia, she has no idea of her significance. Even when the Beavers tell the children about the prohecy, they are unsure about their part in the story, and certainly don t see they are central to the fight against evil. The adventure in Narnia begins when two worlds collide, when Lucy comes in to meet Mr. Tumnus and as they begin to believe in that story... Our story collides with God s story when we decide to believe that we are a part of God s story. That God created us to have a relationship with us, and that our part is to try to seek out God to find our purpose. Script: Welcome, all Knights in Training, to the wonderful world of Narnia. I can tell you are Knights in Training, because you all seem so brave, so strong, and so ready for adventure. Well, you came to the right place. Narnia is full of adventure! So is your world: that s why you are here in Narnia. Your adventure with God is very much like the most famous story in all of Narnia; of how Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy became Knights of Narnia! Today, we re going to talk about the beginning of our story, where Lucy first discovered Narnia: Let s see SHOW CLIP 1 CLIP 1 Cue Video to Chapter 3 at 00:11:17 You will stop at 00:24:33 (Tumnus walks away) Clip 2 You will have a second clip Chapter 9 or 00:46:53 You will stop at 00:49:48 (Susan- We re from Finchly.
Knights of God Page 5 Script: So, Lucy was so amazed to discover Narnia! And shocked to discover that she was already in danger, already a part of the story of Narnia! When we think about God, and His story in the Bible, it s sometimes hard to think about the fact that we are already a part of God s story! The Bible was written for us, so we knew who God is, and we know what we re supposed to do to fight evil! Once Lucy brought her whole family to Narnia, her brothers and sister, they all discovered they were already part of the fight against evil...they just didn t want to believe it! Clip 2 Well, it doesn t sound like Susan is convinced she can make a difference. Why do you think Susan doesn t believe she s going to be a queen, and why do you think Peter is shocked to find out he has an army waiting for him? (Let children answer) Sometimes it s hard to think that something written so long ago could have anything to do with us! But it does! For the few minutes we have left, talk with your Knights Circle about how you think you can discover more about God and become a part of His plan to stand up for good! In Day 2-5, you may want to print off or write questions on a white board. For today, there is only one big idea to try to grasp: we are all part of God s story, no matter how long ago the Bible was written, So, if you want, you can write that on a board today instead of the question.
