TEN ATTITUDES OF VICTORIOUS LIVING Part 10 Loving Servant Philippians 2:1-11 11 Presented by Pastor Matt MacCollin August 20, 2017 What a wonderful summer study these past ten weeks have been. In your notes we have listed the Ten Attitudes of Victorious Living and this last attitude we are considering today is becoming more and more a Loving Servant. Sitting with some men discussing this very attitude, one honest man said, I have been a servant, but I have not always been very loving. That kind of transparency is needed as we run to the throne of grace for help becoming more and more of a loving servant. A man once told me recently that he was afraid to serve. He said, What if it leads me to something I don t really want to do? Or another man said, I will be able to serve the way I really want to when things are less busy. Still another said, Though this past trial in serving was very difficult, I have never been more fulfilled.
This morning as we reflect on all Christ did for us, we will ask the Father for the ability to be a loving servant by means of the Spirit of God s power. It s our Helper that will bear good fruit through us as we yield to God. So may each of us reflect, in a very transparent way, as we consider becoming more and more a loving servant. True joy is found in the giving of ourselves to what God calls us to.
Philippians 2:1-11 11 1 Therefore if there is any encouragement in Christ, if there is any consolation of love, if there is any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affection and compassion, 2 make my joy complete by being of the same mind, maintaining the same love, united in spirit, intent on one purpose. 3 Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind regard one another as more important than yourselves; 4 do not merely look out for your own personal interests but also for the interests of others. 5 Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus, 6 who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped, 7 but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men. 8 Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. 9 For this reason also, God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name, 10 so that at the name of Jesus EVERY KNEE WILL BOW, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
A LOVING SERVANT... Serves in the Spirit. Has Christ s mind. Considers others as more important than self. Shares the gospel. Makes disciples.
