Read the Bible in a Year All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work, 2 Timothy 3:16,17. Accepting Christ means giving Him control over your life and seeking to live His plan for you and not your own. One of the most valuable tools God has provided in seeking His will for your life and His answers for your problems is the Bible. But like any other tool, it s useless if you don t use it. The Bible is a collection of 66 books written over a period of approximately 1500 years. It is, among other things, the history of God s revelation of Himself to man through the Hebrew people and the revelation of Salvation through Jesus Christ. The Bible is a living word from Almighty God and an indispensable resource to his children. Although it was written long ago, it is amazing how relevant the Scriptures are to our lives and situations in our present time. There are several methods one could use to read through the Bible. You could just start reading at the beginning and read 4 chapters every day or you could use one of several other techniques. Each has advantages and disadvantages. For example, if you read straight through you must remember that the Bible is not necessarily compiled in chronological order. There are numerous plans available through a simple search online or at your local Christian book store. Among others, there are plans that arrange your daily reading in chronological order and plans that read straight through by reading some of the Old Testament and some of the New Testament each day. We have provided for your convenience a Read the Bible in a year plan in which your daily readings from the Old Testament will be in chronological order but most days also have corresponding readings from Psalms, Proverbs or the New Testament as well. We don t believe this to be the best or the only method to read through the Bible; rather a usuable guide to get you started in a daily habit of reading the Word of God. Just as there are various techniques for reading through the Bible there are various times and methods also. Many people find it best to find a quiet place to read and study God s word first thing in the morning. Some prefer just before bedtime and others prefer using their lunch time to feast on God s word. Just pick a time and place that works for you and commit to it. As you read remember that you are seeking truth and direction. Don t focus on verses that support your personal beliefs and ignore the verses that seem to contradict those beliefs. Let God, through His Holy Spirit, speak to you. Also understand that there will be things you just don t understand. Accept that, pray about it and move on. People have made a lifetime of studying the Bible and they still don t have all the answers. As you read, study and pray God will reveal to you what you need as you seek to become the person He desires you to be.
