April 5 & 6, 2008 9:00 & 1:00 each day PARENTS: These packets will hopefully enable you to listen to the messages of General Conference and encourage your children to watch Conference with you. We hope that the booklets will bless your families, especially on the Sabbath. You are about to be part of a unique General Conference that you have never seen and has only happened 15 times in Church History. You will be sustaining a new Prophet! What happens when the Prophet dies? When a prophet passes away, the First Presidency goes back into the order they were called into the the Twelve. The the Twelve Apostles becomes the presiding body of the Church..., until a new president of the Church is chosen and ordained (www.lds.org). All the Priesthood keys are still on the Earth. As we believe that a man must be called of God, by prophecy, and by the laying on of hands by those who are in authority (5th Article of Faith), a special meeting is called where the the Twelve meet in the Temple and pray about who the next Prophet should be. The pattern was set long ago by the Lord, that the President of the the Twelve Apostles (the senior apostle) becomes the next Prophet. The Quorum sets him apart and gives him all the Priesthood keys. At the following General Conference, we, as members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, get to sustain the President of the Church as prophet, seer, and revelator the only person on the earth who receives revelation to guide the entire Church (www.lds.org). The Holy Ghost will help you gain a testimony of our new prophet and you will know that he is his called of God. We encourage you to listen to and follow our new prophet, President Thomas S. Monson. He will not lead you astray.
