SECOND SUNDAY OF LENT MARCH 12, 2017 Religious Education WORTH REPEATING!!! >ATTENTION HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS!< I have been asked to pass this along to you from the Diocese of Joliet Council of Catholic Women. In 2016 they established the Father John M. Sebahar Servant Leadership Award in tribute of gratitude to Father Sebahar for his many years of spiritual guidance and support to the council. The award will present $500 to a high school senior boy and senior girl planning to attend a college or university this coming fall. The nominee must have displayed outstanding Christian Service to his/her parish and community throughout their high school years. If you are interested, please contact Marcia at 630-953-4415 for further information and necessary forms. GIVE SANDY A SMILE Sandy Lejcar will be here on Monday, March 13 to take photos of students in Grades 6, 7 & 8. EGG-CEPTIONAL PROJECT Mrs. Angie Lopez will teach a special Lenten lesson to Grades 6 and 7 tomorrow evening. Her session will start promptly at 7:20 PM. SACRIFICES: SEEN AND UNSEEN This weekend we spring forward and reduce the Lenten season by one hour. As we move through Lent and plan for coming Easter celebrations and special time with families and friends, we must not forget that both Lent and Easter commemorate Christ s supreme sacrifice for us. What we should do in turn in our Christian lives to recognize that redemption is left to each of us. We can sacrifice daily by foregoing something of pleasure during this time or by looking for ways to help others in a special way as Pope Francis has recommended. Last weekend our Members held out cups after each Mass for you to take and put in your alms for the poor during Lent and can return them to us the weekend after Easter. Instead of having the needy come with their cups or boxes to beg for your offerings, our Members instead ask for your kindness by thinking and making your own sacrifices for the Lenten season. The cups provide a way of making us aware of God s call for special works of mercy during Lent and simultaneously collect our alms for others in need. REMINDER Those students on Home Study are asked to contact Marcia to arrange a progress review. At the same time we ask that you heed God s request to make sacrifices on behalf of others in ways that are private between only you and God. Simply a prayer for help said and kept between you and Our Redeemer is a way of sacrificing with the intention of not being recognized by others. At this time we invite all of you to continue making sacrificial offerings both seen and unseen. HAPPY ST. PATRICK S DAY! Mo Ghrá Thu, Marcia
Around the Diocese and Parish Neighborhood Conference for the Divorced and Widowed on April 1, 2017 Whether a loss of a spouse is through death or divorce, it is a painful process and life transition. This conference will help you better understand your grief and the intense emotions that may accompany it. The goal of this program is to teach you how to move forward and begin to transform your loss and wounds into hope and healing. There will be opportunity to give and receive support from other grievers. We will conclude with a healing ritual. Our speaker, Tom Barkauskas, is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who has been providing counseling services for over 30 years to all ages. For many years, he found a special niche in hospice work where he became the Director of Social Services. Last year Tom returned to his mental health roots and is now engaging in an outpatient private practice in Aurora and Yorkville. His passion for working with grief and loss has continued and led him to help individuals and families facing illnesses and life transitions. These have included health problems, loss of loved ones, divorce, job loss, relational issues, and other difficult life adjustments. Faith has been a core value guiding him throughout his life. As a Catholic, he offers the option of Christian counseling to his clients. The conference day begins with a 9:00 a.m. check-in at the Joliet Diocesan Blanchette Catholic Center in Crest Hill, and concludes with a Vigil Mass at 4:00PM. The suggested donation is $35 which includes morning coffee and refreshments, lunch, and materials. Please register by March 24 by calling the Office of Family Ministry at 815-838-5334 by using the enclosed registration form, or online at http://conta.cc/2habtxy. Please Participate!
