Please do not make travel plans for your family until your baptism date is confirmed! Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults: Anyone who is interested in becoming a Catholic or completing his/her Christian Initiation as a Catholic, should call the Parish Office. Are you a registered parishioner? Please do not take for granted that you are registered in the parish just because you attend mass and/or had your sacraments here as a child. If we have no record of your parish membership, it could be quite embarrassing to us or to you or your family, when someone wishes to make wedding plans, have a baby baptized, or if you have been asked to act as a sponsor for baptism or confirmation. Please fill out a census form, located in the narthex, in the Parish office or online at www.stmarkboynton.com. Once you have filled out the form please mail or bring it to the Parish Office. To receive a letter of Sponsorship for Baptism or Confirmation from the Pastor, one has to be an active parishioner of this parish for at least three months, received the Sacraments of initiation, and (if married) be in a Catholic Church recognized marriage. The Parish of St. Mark defines an active/participating parishioner as one who is registered and worshipping at this parish on a regular ( weekly ) basis; and who commits to a stewardship of time, talent and financial resources to help support the parish and the Church of the Palm Beach Diocese. But we could be even stronger if you join. If you pray, and surely you do, then you will just add some names to your list and you can pray in your usual way, in your regular time frame and anyplace. We surely could use more people praying for those in our parish who need our prayers. Please consider this ministry; we need YOU. Your name is not on any public list, and if you send in a petition I will send it out keeping your name private. Together we can make a difference with our prayers. And pray in the spirit on all occasions, with all kinds of prayer and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all God s people. Ephesians 6:18 Contact : Barbara Schenk at: BBPrayerwarriors@gmail.com Vocation Chalice Ministry Several people stopped by the Vocation Chalice table at the recent Ministry Fair, and we had a few new people sign up. In researching the origins of this ministry we found out that the Serra Atlanta, an organization started in 1934 with a purpose to promote vocations, started the Vocation Chalice as a part of its mission. It was interesting to learn that the name Serra came from an 18 th century Franciscan Friar, Saint Junipero Serra, who evangelized in the New World. At St. Mark we use the Vocation Chalice as part of the Serra Atlanta s mission. Those who take the chalice will take it for one week, from the mass they normally attend and then return it the following week to the church. The Chalice is to be displayed prominently in your home, and it is a beautiful reminder for you to pray daily for vocations. We now have over 20 people signed up, which means that each participant takes home the chalice twice a year. When you join this ministry you are joining the many others throughout the world who are praying for men and women who are being prompted by the Holy Spirit to follow the call. Your prayers are needed and all our prayers will be answered. And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayer and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all God s people. Ephesians 6:18 Contact me at: vocationchalicestmark@ gmail.com God bless you. ATTENTION WOMEN AGED 35-70 Are you at a point in your life where you find yourself wondering if God may be calling you to something more? Have you considered community life but felt you were too old? The Community of St. Joseph, the Healer, is a local Catholic Community for adult women aged 35-70+ who feel called and have chosen to dedicate their lives to the service of Jesus Christ and His Church. We offer unique opportunities for women who are widows, divorced/annulled or single to live together in community and share a Christian life of work and prayer. We have many gifts and we are also very active in our Church communities in varied ministries. We also offer an Associate Program for those women who may be married or for some reason cannot commit to living in the Community but would like to commit to an involvement with us. On March 30, 2015 Bishop Gerald Barbarito of the Diocese of Palm Beach established the Community of St. Joseph, the Healer, as a Private Association of the Faithful. FYI: 3 rd Sunday of Lent March 4, 2018 As we continue our journey during this Lenten Season we are reminded about the necessity of observing our part of the covenant we have made with Almighty God as exemplified in the Ten Commandments. The Gospel for the B Cycle which most of us will be listening to this Sunday reminds us the sacredness of the House of God. This Sunday during the 10:00 a.m. & 4:00 p.m. Spanish Mass Masses, the first of the three Scrutinies will be celebrated with our catechumens and their godparents. The Readings for these two Masses will be taken from the 3 rd Sunday of Lent, Cycle A. The first Reading taken from Exodus relays the experience of Moses having to deal with the complaints of the People of Israel about the need for water, to the point where the people question the presence of God. The Second Reading taken from the Letter to the Romans reminds us that through Jesus death and resurrection, we are justified in faith. The Gospel reading taken from St. John is the narrative of the encounter between Jesus and the Woman at the Well. Following the Noon Mass this Sunday, fifty of our young boys and girls will be celebrating their First Penance. This is a special day in our children s journey to receiving their First Eucharist. We congratulate our children, their parents and catechists for their work in preparing our children for their First Reconciliation. Getting back to this Sunday s Readings (especially those attending the 4:00 p.m. & 5:45 p.m. Vigil Masses and the 8:00 a.m. & 12 Noon Mass), The First Reading from the Book of Exodus is the listing of the Ten Commandments. The observance of the Commandments is a sealing of the covenant made between God and the People of Israel on Mount Sinai. Since Jesus came to fulfill the Law, we as Catholics are obliged to observe the Commandments. Unfortunately, many people today regard the Commandments as mere suggestions. The Second Reading taken from 1 st Corinthians reminds the Church in Corinth as well as we ourselves That God s wisdom and power is far beyond our human imagining or wonder. Finally, the Gospel reading from St. John s Account reminds us of the sacredness of the Temple as a House of Prayer. Our Church is also a House of Prayer. Unfortunately, there are times when certain attitudes or behaviors suggest otherwise. The attitude and behavior of each person coming to Church must be that of one who wishes to encounter the living God. The Church is God s House. Therefore, the Church must be treated with dignity and respect at all times. In the past, I have mentioned to all the need to keep our Church clean and neat. I don t know about you, but I do not enjoy cleaning up after someone who has left dirty tissues, food, gum, cigarette butts or wrappers on the floors or on the sidewalks, I don t mind organizations or individuals setting up tables or chairs in the narthex, but I do mind when these organizations or individuals don t put tables and chairs away after use. Finally, The Church is a house of prayer and worship to almighty God. It is not a place to catch up on gossip, answer cell-phone calls, speak so loudly that everyone can hear you. God deserves our best. People coming to church are asked to dress modestly. All are asked to participate fully in Holy Mass remembering that if receiving Holy Communion or asking for a blessing one is asked to approach with reverence and respect. All are reminded that Holy Mass begins with and ends with the Sign of the Cross. Brothers and Sisters, while we have time, let us do good! ~ Fr. Dan 11
