TEMKIT for Children TEMKIT S MISSION: To provide Bible based, true reading material for children and Year 1-1st Quarter - Issue #1 CREATION CORNER Birds of the air Revelation 18:2 And he cried mightily with a strong voice, saying, Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and is become the habitation of devils, and the hold of every foul spirit, and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird. In the beginning, before sin entered our world, all the birds had lovely songs. But after our first parents chose to disobey God, what the Bible calls unclean and hateful birds were found in nature. If you go out to a forest or meadow on a lovely spring morning you will hear the sweet songs of many kinds of birds. It is so kind of dear Jesus to still let us enjoy the different pretty birds and their music to gladden our hearts. They can help us think about how beautiful the Garden of Eden must have been and how much we will enjoy heaven! Jesus gives special care to these little birds to keep them for us to enjoy. But what about the unclean and hateful ones? There are no sweet songs found here; we hear no sweet songs any more, only harsh screeches, squawks, screams, and other harsh, irritating noises. Why is this? Well, these birds are all ones that eat flesh. They kill and eat other birds as well as animals CONTENTS: CREATION CORNER HISTORY TRUE-STORY-TIME ADVENT HISTORY WEEKLY BIBLE LESSON and live by hunting and hurting their fellow creatures. The songbirds are mostly all fruit and seedeaters or seed and insect eaters, but the flesh eating birds, that live to feast upon their fellow warm-blooded creatures, have no sweet songs to bring before Jesus. I want you to stop and think about the sounds you are producing from day to day before Jesus. Are you sweet and gentle, do your words and songs bring joy and make others happy? Are sweet songs to Jesus and kind words rising from your home like the sweet songs of the birds? Or are the sounds of noisy, flesh tearing, birds coming from you? Are shouts of anger and shrieks of selfishness heard coming from your house? Fighting and quarreling and squawks between you and your family, pecking and picking to get your own way? When you go to visit your friends do you tell some nasty words of gossip or mean talk about others? Do you know that Jesus told us in the Revelation that some churches would finally be like a cage full of unclean and hateful birds? What does a cage full of these birds do? Why they pick and shriek and tear at each other, trying to eat each

2 TEMKIT for Children other up! What kind of sound is that to come into the ears of Jesus? He hears the shrieks of the flesh eaters and cries rise up before Him from the poor and helpless that these nasty birds peck and tear to pieces. Take notice what kind of sounds come from your throat; Oh that the sweet notes of kind words and happy songs may rise from your heart to Jesus, and not the harsh shrieks of selfishness. When you are tempted to yell and be selfish, remember the Unclean and Hateful birds and fly away to sweet words instead.=^..^= HISTORY In Sweden, at the time of the early Advent movement in the early 1800s, it was against the law to preach. God caused small children to preach His truth to the people! We are told that will happen again. Would you like to preach for God? The Boy Preacher at Karlskoga, Sweden by J.N. Loughborough A gentlemen at Orebro related to me an occurrence at Karlskoga, where he resided in 1843. He said:- A little boy eight years of age, who had never learned to read his letters, began to preach the message, quoting many scriptures. The people said, That boy is just filled with Bible. This circumstance occurred after King Oscar had spoken in favor of the persecuted ones, so the priest of that place could not get the boy before the court to stop the work; but he told the people to bring the boy before him, and he would expose him, and show them his ignorance of the Bible. Before a crowd of people the priest opened his hymn book, and asked the boy to read for him. The boy replied, I cannot read; but turning his back to the priest, he sang the hymn through correctly from first to last, the priest meanwhile looking on the book in astonishment. The priest said to the lad, You seem to know everything. The boy replied, No. We are not always permitted to tell all we do know. The priest then opened the New Testament and said to the boy, Read for me in this. The boy replied, I cannot read. The priest inquired, What do you know about the Bible anyway? His reply was, I know where there is a text that has the word and in it fourteen times. The priest said, No! there is no such text in the Bible. The lad said, Will you please read for me Rev. 18:13? Yes, said the priest. As he read the people counted, and sure enough the word and was there just fourteen times, and among the fourteen times was the binding of the souls of men. The people shouted, There! there! the boy knows more about the Bible than the priest! Much chagrined, the priest dropped the subject, and left the people unmolested after that. So, out of the mouth of children the Lord confirmeth his word, and in this wonderful manner brought his truth to the ears of the people whose laws forbade the preaching of any doctrine but that of the established religion. =^..^= TRUE-STORY-TIME Love your enemies, do good to them which hate you, Luke 6.27 The slave known as Elijah, had been born a free man in Africa. He was a grown man when slave traders, led by traitor, a small African man, attacked his village and snatched up all ablebodied young men and dragged them off in chains to the slave ships. He soon forgot the faces of the white traders, but resentment burned within him against the African who had grown rich from the bodies of his own people. The fact that in America, he could never gain revenge, grew into a bitter hatred. He took his wrath out on his master, a small man, who even though he was white, reminded him of his enemy. He slouched around, snarled, threatened and did no more work than he absolutely had to. He opposed his master in every way until, because of the seething rebellion on the plantation, the man was afraid to venture out alone at night. Then the bitter man came under the influence of Christian slaves and he met and fell in love with our lovely Jesus. A change came over him, he helped the weaker slaves, he took care for his master s interests, until it came to be that, that like Joseph of old, his master trusted him with most of the running of the plantation. The day came when the master went into town to purchase some more slaves and he gave Elijah full authority to pick who he wanted for

the work. He had chosen several when he came to an old man, thin and bent. He looked at him for a few moments and indicated him to join the group he was buying. Not him, his master snapped. But you said I could have who I want and I want this slave! Elijah answered. The dealer spoke quickly, Since you have bought all these, I ll throw the old man in free. The deal was settled. Elijah took the old man and gave him a place in his own hut and fed him with his food share. After his plantation work was done he sat up to make clothes for the old slave. He gave him only easy work to do. But the man was old and one day the master notices Elijah hurrying in from the fields to his hut every so often then returning and working as hard as he could to make up for the lost time. Finally the master followed him to the hut to see what was going on. He found Elijah sponging the face of the old man with a cool cloth as he lay moaning on a bunk, deathly ill. Anger filled the master and he snapped, This man is no slave, he s useless! I told you not to get him! Yes, Massa, Elijah replied, But he is a man, a sick man, and he needs my help. I ll be back to the fields as soon as I cool his face. The master snarled, Who is this slave, anyway? Why are you so anxious to care for him, is he your father? No he not be my fader. Then he must be your brother, or your uncle. No, Massa, he not my brudda or my uncle. He s a friend then? No, Massa, He not my friend, He my enemy. Your What?! Yes Massa, he my enemy, an Lord Jesus, He say to love our enemies an do dem good. Elijah paused. This slave, he be de man what sold me to the slave traders many yeah ago when I am a free man in my village in Africa. Now I finds him an does him good, like the Good Book say. Speechless, the master walked away. =^..^= ADVENT HISTORY For a few weeks we are going to have stories about the life of the messenger of the Lord, Ellen White. We re going to start the story when she was a girl. Her name was Ellen Harmon then. DAYS AT SCHOOL Ellen Harmon was a happy little girl. She had a kind father and mother. She had a twin sister named Elizabeth. She had six other brothers and sisters, too. They had such good times together! Little Ellen went to school. Elizabeth went to school, too. They liked school very much. They liked to read. They liked to write. They liked arithmetic and spelling. One day Ellen, Elizabeth, and another little girl were on their way home from school. An older girl was walking behind them. She was not a kind girl. She wanted her own way. She was angry and said cross words. Ellen and Elizabeth hurried as fast as they could, while the older girl followed behind.. The three little girls hurried as fast as they could. Ellen turned to see how far the big girl was behind her. Just then the big girl threw a stone. The stone hit little Ellen s nose. She fell to the ground. It made Ellen very sick. Elizabeth and the other little girl carried her home. For many weeks she lay sick in her bed. Many people thought she would die., Her thin face was no longer pretty. Her father had been away on a trip. When he came home he did not know his little girl. He asked: Where is Ellen? Then he remembered about the accident. He felt sorry for his dear little girl. When she was better she went to school again. She tried to read. She tried to write, but her hand shook. She could not see the letters on the page. Her teacher said: Poor little Ellen. You are too sick to go to school. Ellen was sad, for she wanted so much to go to school. She went back to school several times, but each time she had to stop. Many of Ellen s friends felt sorry for her. They were kind to her. They tried to help her. Other children said: We do not like Ellen as much as we did. She is not pretty now. This made Ellen very sad. Often she felt lonely.

4 TEMKIT for Children One day a minister came to the town where Ellen lived. His name was William Miller. He preached to the people. Ellen went with some of her friends to hear him preach. He talked about the loving Jesus. Ellen s heart was happy as she heard the story of the loving Jesus. Ellen loved Jesus. She said: I m glad Jesus loves me even though I am not pretty. He loves me even though I cannot go to school. He knows all about me. The love of Jesus made little Ellen happy again. =^..^= WEEKLY BIBLE LESSON 1: We are going to start our series of Bible Story Lessons in the beginning, even before CREATION! Have you ever wondered where Satan came from?? And how do bad things happen when Jesus is so good and kind? Well, we are going to learn all about it! For our Bible lessons we are going to use the King James Version of the Bible, just like the boys and girls used to use to learn to read from in the pioneer days. There will be some texts to look up for each day and you should practice your memory verse until you can say it without looking. Don t forget to learn the text too. MEMORY VERSE: How art thou fallen from Heaven O Lucifer, son of the morning? Isaiah 14:12 Sunday Text: Ezekiel 28:2 Son of man, say unto the prince of Tyrus, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Because thine heart is lifted up, and thou hast said, I am a God, I sit in the seat of God, in the midst of the seas; yet thou art a man, and not God, though thou set thine heart as the heart of God: Bible Parables - The Bible teaches many things by using parables. A parable is a story made to teach a lesson. The twenty-eighth chapter of Ezekiel tells of the overthrow of the prince of Tyrus or the city of Tyre, which was a very strong, wealthy, proud, and wicked city on the Mediterranean Sea, near Palestine, But by reading verses 12-15, it will be seen that this chapter has a second meaning, and these verses refer more especially to some being standing at one time in high position in Heaven. It shows him to have been very wise, beautiful, and powerful, and near to the presence of God. This can only mean Lucifer, now known as the devil, and Satan. The Bible is full of object lessons; and kingdoms, men, animals and events are often taken to teach important lessons. Christ did much of His teaching by parables. He took things as He found them in the world to teach great Gospel truths. In this chapter the power and beauty, the pride and wickedness, and the final overthrow of Tyre were taken to represent the high position of Lucifer in Heaven, his sinful pride and rebellion, and his fall. Thought - Name some parables that Jesus told. Monday Text: Ezekiel 28: 12-15 Son of man, take up a lamentation upon the king of Tyrus, and say unto him, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Thou sealest up the sum, full of wisdom, and perfect in beauty. Thou hast been in Eden the garden of God; every precious stone was thy covering, the sardius, topaz, and the diamond, the beryl, the onyx, and the jasper, the sapphire, the emerald, and the carbuncle, and gold: the workmanship of thy tabrets and of thy pipes was prepared in thee in the day that thou wast created. Thou art the anointed cherub that covereth; and I have set thee so: thou wast upon the holy mountain of God; thou hast walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire. Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee.

5 Satan was once a beautiful, powerful angel in Heaven. His name then was Lucifer, which means, Son of the Morning, or, Shining One, Son of the Dawn, His position in Heaven, his beauty, power, and final end, are well described in Ezekiel 28:12-19. Lucifer, or Satan was the wisest being in the universe, next to God and Christ, for God said, Thou sealest up the sum, full of wisdom. Verse. 12. He was a very beautiful being, for the text says he was perfect in beauty. He has been in the Eden home of Adam and Eve. Thou hast been in Eden the garden of God. Verse 13. He was a great musician, and doubtless led the music and singing of the hosts of angels in their morning and evening songs of praise to God. Verse 13 says, The workmanship of thy tabrets (a kind of musical instrument) and of thy pipes was prepared in thee in the day that thou wast created. Thought - The angels sing and praise God morning and evening. Do you remember to pray and sing to Jesus morning and evening and thank Him for all the good things He gives you? Tuesday Text: Ezekiel 28:14 Thou art the anointed cherub that covereth; and I have set thee so. and Exodus 25:20 And the cherubims shall stretch forth their wings on high, covering the mercy seat with their wings, and their faces shall look one to another; toward the mercy seat shall the faces of the cherubims be. The above text shows that he was created by the power of God. All the angels were created full grown, and not born as children. Hence this text is describing some heavenly being. Thou art the anointed cherub that covereth; and I have set thee so. Verse 14. Lucifer s position was by the throne of God, with his wings outstretched above it like an honor guard. A Cherub is an angel. The ark built by Moses was a copy of heavenly things. On the top of this ark were two cherubim with their wings covering the ark where the glory of God rested. See Exodus 25:20. This is something like Lucifer s position was as covering cherub, close to the throne of God in Heaven. Jesus also stood near the throne and sometimes appeared to be like an angel. Jesus, before He was born on earth, was known as Michael the Archangel. But Jesus was the Son of God; He was not created like Lucifer was. In fact the amazing thing is that it was Jesus who created Lucifer! Thought - See if you can find a picture of the Ark of the Covenant and see the two angels with their wings stretched over the ark. Maybe you could draw and color your own picture of the Ark. Wednesday Text: Ezekiel 28: 15-19 Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee. By the multitude of thy merchandise they have filled the midst of thee with violence, and thou hast sinned: therefore I will cast thee as profane out of the mountain of God: and I will destroy thee, O covering cherub, from the midst of the stones of fire. Thine heart was lifted up because of thy beauty, thou hast corrupted thy wisdom by reason of thy brightness: I will cast thee to the ground, I will lay thee before kings, that they may behold thee. Thou hast defiled thy sanctuaries by the multitude of thine iniquities, by the iniquity of thy traffick; therefore will I bring forth a fire from the midst of thee, it shall devour thee, and I will bring thee to ashes upon the earth in the sight of all them that behold thee. All they that know thee among the people shall be astonished at thee: thou shalt be a terror, and never shalt thou be any more. Lucifer was the anointed cherub. Anciently the prophets of the Lord anointed the kings to show that they were appointed of God to govern and command. They poured a little oil on them and had special prayer to dedicate them to a certain job. Lucifer was, next to the Son of God, the anointed commander of the hosts of heavenly angels. All his wisdom, beauty, power, and position were given him by God who had created him. The Creator fitted him for the work He wished him to do and the place He desired him to occupy. Lucifer owed everything which he possessed to his Lord. But, like some people who have riches and power, he became proud of his glory. He forgot that it was all the gift of God. The text says, Thine heart was lifted up because of thy beauty. Ezekiel 28: 17.

6 TEMKIT for Children Thought - Which is better a pretty face or a kindly heart? Thursday Text: Isaiah 14:13,14 For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High. The Son of God was above him, and equal with His Father. Lucifer was second to Christ; but, considering his beauty and power, he decided that he ought to be equal with God. The prophet Isaiah says of him, Thou hast said in thine heart, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God; I will be like the Most High. Chapter 14:13,14. ( Stars in this place means the angels.) But Jehovah could not permit this. The very thought of it by Lucifer was sin, for it was pride and the exaltation of self. Only the Son of God could be equal with the Father. Also although Lucifer did not seem to know it, God s Son, whom we know as Jesus was the One who created him. It was foolish of Lucifer to be jealous of the Creator who made him! Thought - Being jealous and wanting what doesn t belong to you can make you very unhappy! Friday Text: Luke 10:18 And he -said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven. Then rebellion came into the heart of Lucifer. He went among the angels and told his story. He told them many lies and made them think God was unfair. They loved him as their leader, and many took sides with him. The loyalty of all the angels was tested. Nearly one-half their number took sides with Lucifer. Then there was open rebellion in Heaven. Lucifer had a vast army at his command, and he felt strong enough to defy God. But rebellion could not be allowed in Heaven. The rebel host must be sent out. God could destroy them at once, for if He could create them He could also destroy them. But God is love and He didn t want all His children to serve Him out of fear. Some of the angels had almost believed Satan but had remained loyal to God. If Satan was destroyed on the spot some of them wouldn t understand. Lucifer had said that God was unfair and severe, to have a law to guide His universe. He claimed that laws were not needed in Heaven. Satan had to be given time so every one could see that his ideas were wrong and God s law was good and fair to all. So God allowed the rebellion to develop and do its work, that all the universe might see the awful results of sin. This will be an object lesson through all eternity. Jesus told His disciples, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven. When he was cast out, one third of the heavenly angels went with him. We don t know how many that was but it is a lot! Thought - Think of some of the sad things that come from sin. Think of how happy we will be when in heaven these sad things are gone forever! =^..^= IT SINGS INSIDE My little kitty sings inside In such a funny way; And what is queer, she keeps it up Through all the whole long day. So when I grumbly, growly grow, And fret at this and that, Then mother says, You d better sing Inside, like pussy cat. -Liuie De Armond.
