The Sophian Bulletin Sophia Girls Sr. Sec. School Vallabhnagar, Kota 2017-18 The way we see the world, creates the world we see...

From The Principal's Desk Dear Readers, We thank God for this academic year, which has been a year of many ac vi es, picnics, tours, func ons and studies. We thank God for His manifold blessings on this temple of learning, the management, staff and students, parents and well - wishers. Each one of you has contributed towards the growth and development of this Ins tu on. Thank you for your support, encouragement and interest. May the Almighty fill you with all that is good, noble and praise worthy. Human beings are said to be the crown of God's crea on. God has made us in His own image and likeness therefore we are called to live that fullness of life. Let us keep alive in us the 'Child' with its a tude of openness, cheerfulness and simplicity, that is the reason Jesus said 'Let the li le children come to me for the kingdom of Heaven belongs to such as these. They are full of life. They teach us to live the present moment and derive wonder and excitement from everything and everybody. Let us follow the five C's in order to a ain the fullness of life: - 1.Character Wealth, influences, posi on and power are of li le value without character. Faith, courage, humility, integrity, magnanimity, nobility and self giving are the richest spiritual materials for character building. 2.Cheerfulness Be happy and cheerful, it costs nothing, yet it is beyond price. No one really cares if you are miserable, so we might as well be happy. 3.Courage Have courage, accept everyday as it comes. 4.Calmness No ma er how insignificant the thing we have to do, do it as well as we can, for it will be by these small things that we shall be judged. Let us fill our minds with everything that is true, noble, good & pure Whoever is careless with the truth in small ma ers cannot be trusted with important ma ers. Albert Einstein. 5.Convic on The people who get on in the world are the people who get up and look for the circumstances they want, and if they cannot find them, make. Let us be convinced of our Goals, Vision and Mission. Let us live the present moment, be aligned with the present moment to experience peace and happiness. The secret of health for both mind and body is not to mourn for the past, worry about the future or an cipate troubles but to live in the present moment wisely and earnestly. Buddha. Sr. Meena

SOPHIA isn't just a school to me, it's a euphoric universe which we can all shape into our own worlds and it's the adventure of life which each and every child cherishes. The impeccable Sophia turns its page every year with something new and worth remembering. We get really few chances to express our gra tude for the best things in our lives. If I were asked to describe Sophia in one word then it would be 'My Pride'. Sophia not only imparts good values but also teaches each student to focus on the best. The ambience, the aura and the charm of Sophia cannot go unno ced. This is a place where I can truly explore and unwrap my hidden talents. Sophia is like the infinite sky where all the stars gli er all the me, even in darkness of life. The confidence and uncondi onal love I've got from Sophia will be cherished forever in my life. Thank you Sophia for recognizing me for who I am today, for shaping the lives of all the children whose parents have trusted you. Although, such a pleasant situa on isn't the ideal me for talking about goodbyes but they are a reality we can't change. I promise that when I have to bid goodbye, it would be with another promise of reunion. Because, HOME is a place where even winter spells warmth and even storms end with peace. No ma er what, it will always be the soil that has nurtured me and my roots will forever lie with it. May Almighty con nue to shower his manifold blessings upon this magnificent temple of learning. - Iram Khan XI-Com. -B

Students Corner IN MEMORY OF ASHRA ALI True friends are never apart, maybe in distance but never in heart. Even though you are physically not with us but the cherished moments spent with you will remain in our hearts forever. When you were there with us, we always used to fight but now we have understood your importance in our lives. We may not have told you but you were the most amiable, loving and affec onate friend with whom we could share each and every thing. You were the only one who taught us what true friendship means. Whatsoever it may be, you will always be the sister of our soul and the friend of our heart. May your soul rest in peace. - Class VIII FRUIT OF PRAYER The fruit of silence is prayer. The fruit of Prayer is faith. The fruit of service is Peace. When we pray for God's guidance and for discernment through Holy Spirit we can rest assured that God will provide us wisdom. Prayers are the only means for final a ainment of God's blessings. Prayers have tremendous posi ve effects on our minds and an eternal drive is created to give our best in life. Prayers are the most resourceful of tools to connect with God. Sooner or later prayers are truly answered by God. - Dia Kapoor VIII-C Life Is Precious, Handle With Prayer Life is precious handle with prayer, You will be filled with love, peace and care. Pray each moment, everyday, So you can happily, live, love and play Join your hands and close your eyes God will listen to you You do not need to ask him twice. - Riya Mathur VIII-C Work Hidden Oh dear, I said to the blithe flower How joyful you are, Always having a beau ful smile, Not even leaving it for a while. Li le body so delicate, Whom everyone appreciates, To make everyone happy, Is your fantasy. It is not me it's we; the flower told me. Who makes you happy, My plant is so kind, It nourishes me as a child. And refreshes my mind, It makes me happy, So, that I can smile. It doesn't receive any praise, But is s ll happy and keeps me happy, And makes the world smile at least for a while.. Signi icance of Prayer PRAYER does not change GOD, but it changes the one who PRAYS. If our life is a kite, Prayer is the thread which helps it to fly high. It is the only way to communicate with God and is the confession of one's own worthiness and weakness. Life without prayer is like a lamp without light. So, IN HAPPY MOMENTS, PRAISE GOD IN DIFFICULT MOMENTS, SEEK GOD IN QUIET MOMENTS, WORSHIP GOD IN PAINFUL MOMENTS, TRUST GOD AND EVERY MOMENT, THANK GOD. - Kairvee Vaswani VIII A -Prachi Pathak X A

TEACHER You are the heart of every classroom, The soul of our school, The mind behind the message, That learning is cool, Each day you teach us Is a day to rejoice, Because of you someday, We will have our own voice. - Suhani Sharma IV-C The Five "W"s of life 1. WHO you are is what makes you special. Do not change for anyone. 2. WHAT lies ahead will always be a mystery. Do not be afraid to explore. 3. WHEN life pushes you, you push back even harder. 4. WHERE there are choices to make, make the one you won't regret. 5. WHY things happen will never be certain. Take it in stride; always move forward. Compiled by - Rashi Sharma XII Com. Sophia: My Guide Forever Like a loanee is indebted to the bank, So are we to Sophia, the pres gious academy of first rank. Everything we have learnt from ABCs to algebra to excep onal behavior, Has been taught to us by this Saviour. This temple that taught us to deal with everyday blues, By showering on us a sea brimming with values, Is where I've made a Tsunami of memories and bonds, And aspire to make more with the rise of each Dawn. The only place where the combina on of Love, Warmth and Pride Is possible; is in Sophia, My eternal guide. GOD DISGUISED AS GURUS Teachers thank you for inculca ng in us the precious value of life. Thank you for helping us in making our brain as sharp as a knife. You are like the sun, in the lives of all the blooming flowers You bring the rays of knowledge as soon as you enter the class. Blessed I am who got a chance to study from a teacher like you as, teachers like you are very few. Thank you teachers for mo va ng us and embellishing our lives with your knowledge which is very bright. - Shreyu Pareek V-C - Shreya Mathur IX-C The Unforgettable Dream I wonder how to make fer le, The land all around and bring on smiles. Or to make a house, Just by laying les. Or to get my files, Neatly in piles. Or to watch the ocean bed, When the sun goes very red. Just imagine the mermaids, In shades of pink and blue. That would be, indeed, something very new Oh, my dream! Goes on and on. I just end this poem though, But I wish this dream could, Someday really come true! -Saumya Singh IV - A WOMAN Woman, a word with millions of emo ons, who is ready to face each and every situa on. A woman plays different roles in her life, A mother, daughter, teacher and a wife. Mother- carries love in her heart, Her heart is as sweet as apple tart. Daughter- willingly wears the cloak of responsibility, She is beau ful, in her simplicity. Wife- she holds a family together, Without her support, family sha ers. Teacher- she creates a be er society, she teaches with pa ence, love and crea vity. What can I say more, a woman is the one who gives birth to a new life. Do you think there is anything more le to write? - Aayushi Kukreja XI-Sc.

On 9th December 2017, Sophia Girls Sr. Sec. School celebrated their annual func on. Colonel Lovelesh Panghal was the honorable chief guest. The func on took the spectators to three different eras whose divisions were marked surprisingly by a common fruit- apple. The first era took them through the fall of man. The second era explained all about the advent of machinery and the third era elucidated the unholy union of man and technology, his fall and rise from it. The func on ended on a posi ve note that man being supreme and God's crea on has the wisdom to change the world and the wisdom to change himself. All the programmes came out in a fantas c way with energe c performances. Sophians almost broke the stumps on stage. This evening of cultural extravaganza filled with colourful rainbow of programmes was appreciated by all. ANNUAL FUNCTION

MOTHER I never presented her any rose I never gave her any chocolate I never gi ed her any teddy bear But then too her love Was every me given to me. I did not know who I was I did not know where I came from She told me that I am a gi of god Given to her. During scary and fearful nights She told me stories Of angels who brought lights And that light I took To reach up ll here And as the me passed by I lost my every fear Se ng up goals Taking up challenges Was taught to me by her. She was the one Who was with me In my every tear And she is None other than my mom My guide, my mentor. - Gee ka Nag VIII-A AMAZING FACTS In a typical life me we spend over 6 years dreaming. Singing exercises your heart, lungs and releases endorphins, making you feel good. We share our birthday with at least 9 million otherpeople in the world. There are approximately 100 billion neurons in the human brain which is roughly the same as the number of stars in the Milky Way. Human muscles are limited by our brain we actually have the strength to move cars and boulders. Enhance your Vocabulary Compiled by - Pritha Sharma XI - Sc. DESTINESIA:When you get to where you were intending to go, but forget why you were going there in the first place. TARANTISM: Uncontrollable urge to dance. ONEIRATAXIA: Inability to dis nguish between fantasy and reality. TEXTOVERT: A person who feels more comfortable talking over text than to your face. FAUXPOLOGY: An excuse or a empt to shi blame disguised as an apology. Compiled by - Pritha Sharma XI - Sc. Words are o en referred to as the weapons that can change the world through their enormous poten al of influencing people. They can bring happiness and confidence but even sorrow and demo va on. The weapon of words is indeed the most powerful one and the most onerous to handle. We o en fail to apprehend this power and use it thoughtlessly by stabbing someone with them. Believe me, they even have the poten al of killing someone from within, but also on the other hand can give an en rely new perspec ve on life. Recklessly throwing words of contempt and hatred affects our character and drowns us into the ocean of nega vity. Prac cally, even if our words cannot bring a change in the world, they can atleast be used to improve ourselves. The essence of true joy lies in apprecia on and spreading smiles. Words of gra tude and kindness bring back to us the felicity lost with the innocence of a child. Words cannot make someone's future bright by themselves, but can give the mo va on for turning the life in the direc on of success. So, always be sure to use your words for the be erment of yourselves and others because what you give is what you get back. - Ashmika Rasania XI-Sc.

Mr. EXAMINATION Mr. examina on, I have no prepara on I am afraid of you, Kindly tell me what to do. Nothing will you gain, Coming fast as train. Don't come as Kashmir mail, Otherwise I will fail. You are early, I am late. I am daily losing weight. Let me pass through the dark, So that I get good marks. Come, come, come, if you must, But let me learn my lesson first. - Nandini Jain V-A IT IS JUST YOU An example of a mentor A good mo vator A caring person It is just you mummy. You love me You care for me You sacrifice for me It is just you mummy. You are like an angel Caring all the me You are like a messenger of God for me It is just you mummy. You are like a bright fair star You are like a beau ful flower Which can appreciate if goodness is there It is just you mummy..just you. - Pritha Vijay V-B GRACIAS SOPHIA It was 14 years ago, though; it seems like yesterday when I entered this great, fun -filled world of Sophia. But the me has come now, with tears of sadness to leave behind these 14 years of fun, joy and togetherness and happy tears to carry the precious moments and memories spent in Sophia. The days spent giggling, laughing, cheering with friends. Those assemblies which helped us grow up with good values and to experience the presence of God within us. All those compe ons which helped to bring out inherent talents of crea vity, leadership, teamwork, etc. We discovered that these compe ons helped us not only to develop a compe ve edge but they also taught us co-opera on, presenta on, to lend a helping hand, to be apprecia ve of others and to be grateful for the God given talents. It's difficult to imagine that now there will be no more waking up early for school, no more wearing our lovely blue uniform, no more assemblies of this kind, no more school celebra ons and DJ par es (specially the Children's Day) and now even no more running for each others ffins.. In the cookie of life, school and teachers are the chocolate chips that make life sweet, surprising and yummy. I would like to thank my teachers for being the yummy choco-chips of my life; for nurturing and building up my personality. Also a word of gra tude towards my loving sisters who with their constant prayers helped me to be what I am today. At the end I would conclude with the following lines- Moving on is simple. It's what we leave behind that's hard. - Livina Varghese XII - Com.

Put on your thinking cap Today you will learn to write from the book which somebody else has wri en and tomorrow somebody else will learn from the book you have wri en. Compiled by - Nishtha Gupta IV A Respect your efforts, respect yourself. Self- Respect leads to self discipline. When you have both firmly under your belt, that's the real power. Compiled by - Avani Sharma IV-B No one in this world is pure and perfect. If you avoid people for their mistakes, you will be alone in this world. So judge less and love more. Success with nega ve a tude is called luck Success with posi ve a tude is called achievement!! Don't give up. The beginning is always the hardest; life rewards those who work hard at it. Compiled by - Janvi Agarwal IV A Ideas Rule The World "What rules the would is an idea, because ideas define the way reality is perceived." - Irving Kristol Life consists of ups and downs, sorrows and joy, love and hatred but what counts is the lesson and knowledge you earned from these experiences and used in your day to day crea ve thinking. Crea ve thinking inspires ideas and ideas change the world. Life is what a person thinks and the world changes if you change your thinking. Innova ons is the way to do things be er but the thing is we have to put an effort to discover it. A single brilliant idea can change the life of a person like it changed of Franklin who on one stormy evening happened to fly a kite and got a shock which electrified his life with the inven on of electricity. Ideas scribbled by Chanakya, Leo Tolstoy, Karl Marx revolu onalised the whole world. Goodbyes are not forever, Goodbyes are not the end. They simply mean we will miss you, until we meet again YOU'LL BE MISSED Sophian family bid adieu to its senior most member, Ma'am Sushila Joshi on July 29,2017. A prayer service and a cultural programme was presented by the students. Students bid a tearful adieu to their beloved teacher wishing her joy and happiness for her life ahead. ADIEU SOPHIA A Red Carpet Walk Towards Success Fare thee well - Class XII 'To meet, to know, to love and then to part, is a sad phase of many hearts.' It is indeed very difficult to express in words the beau ful journey that I undertook 14 years back. The memory is so vivid of my first ny steps towards my classroom, clutching my class teacher's hand with my trembling fingers. From a nervous toddler to donning the responsibility of a head girl has been a marvellous experience. It is the hard work, love and nurturing of the sisters and the teachers that helped me realize my strengths and overcome my weaknesses, as they are the epitome of strength and a great pillar of support to all of us. They have taught us to learn from failures and enjoy the victories, believe in ourselves and have faith in others, to be gentle and caring and to be tough enough to overcome obstacles... The feeling of having wonderful people around us may be beau ful, but the pain of moving away from them is even greater. A beau ful journey comes to an end with tearful hugs and promises to keep in touch. - Bhanushee Gupta Head Girl 2017-18
