Holy Week starts today and it is the most special week of the Church year. Following Christ s triumphal entry into Jerusalem, which we commemorate today, we travel with him in his arrest, trial and crucifixion, then next Sunday we come to celebrate Christ s resurrection. There are services every day this week and all Christians are expected to be in Church on both Maundy Thursday and Good Friday. All the services are detailed above. Please note there are two differences from the original purple Lent, Holy Week and Easter leaflet. On Wednesday evening the Eucharist is preceded by Stations of the Cross instead of the Reading of the Passion and on Thursday Springwood School has its service in Church at 1.00pm and not in the morning.

Maundy Thursday Following the evening Parish Eucharist on Maundy Thursday the Vigil takes place in the Lady Chapel. It is essential that two people are always present. Please sign the list on the book table to indicate the 30 minutes you can offer.
Good Friday As usual St. George s is joining with the other town centre Churches to process the Cross through the market place. The procession begins outside Waterlooville Baptist Church and travels via Sacred Heart Church and the market back to this Church where refreshments are served. Please come and support this so that a great witness can be made to Waterlooville on this very special and holy day. Holy Saturday You are welcome at both evening services - The Empty Tomb and Lighting the New Fire. Please bring a noisy instrument to play, ring or bang during the Gloria, and please note that tickets are needed for the Easter Supper and today is your last chance to purchase these from Lynda Sheffield - adults 6, children free. DON T FORGET TO PUT YOUR CLOCKS FORWARD ON SATURDAY NIGHT Easter Day Please bring with you next Sunday a noisy instrument to play, ring or bang during the Gloria. Although there is no Sunday School, children and families are very welcome at the 10.00am Parish Eucharist. Sunday School starts again on April 17 th. Church Decorations A lot of work is done in St. George s to prepare for the services this week. Although the Church will remain open when possible, there may be times when it is closed. Today s Palm Branches have been kindly donated in memory of Vivienne Wakefield and the Palm Crosses in memory of Linda Cheshire - Paul Read s sister. Many Thanks to Keydell s Nurseries for supplying the two donkeys today. The mother is called Minnie and her foal is called Mabel. Congratulations to Rosy Stone as she prepares to start a new job at the beginning of April. Rosy will be working at Bedhampton Nursing Home in Hulbert Road. Also to Ben Trimby as he begins part-time work with Lloyds Bank. The Lenten Group[of 7 ladies] which studied the booklet on Migration and movement published by Us were moved to donate 67 for their work amongst migrants. This money has duly been sent to Us. Joyce Churchill, a long time member of St. George's Church, has sadly died in Denmead. She was 93 and still independantly living at home! Her funeral is at All Saints' Church, Denmead, this Tuesday, 2.00pm
Thanks to the team who spent Monday cleaning and restoring the Sacristy and back porch areas following the building works, which are now complete. The team also put new paving outside the Choir Vestry and new lights behind the Crucifix which have been given by a member of the congregation. Three New Bishops have been appointed to assist Bp. Christopher in our Diocese! The Rt. Revs. Ian Brackley (formerly Bishop of Dorking); Jonathan Frost (Bishop of Southampton) and Michael Perham (formerly Bishop of Gloucester) have all been appointed Honorary Assistant Bishops of Portsmouth. The Rev. Simon Brocklehurst has been appointed Chaplain to the Squire of Southwick. This parish is known as a Peculiar and does not form part of the Diocese of Portsmouth although the Bishop has to licence the new Priest before he can begin his ministry. Bishop s Lent Appeal The Retiring Collections during March are for this appeal. This year the Bishop has decided to support St. Nicholas Seminary in Ghana, which trains clergy for the whole of the country. Half of the money raised will remain in this Diocese and will be used to support those who struggle with learning. Please make sure you take a leaflet explaining the Bishop s choices and if you can Gift Aid, please take an envelope and indicate this. Birthday Party Lunch to celebrate the 90th Birthday of Queen Elizabeth. A special 3 course lunch on April 21st at Barnard's Restaurant, Denmead. Tickets 22 from Trish 07947611699. Mothers Union On Monday 4 th April there will be a Lady Day Eucharist Service [The feast of the Assumption] held at St George s at 2pm. It is organised by the MU but is open to everybody and will be followed by tea in the hall. Easter Bonnet Parade Would you like to decorate a hat and enter in the Easter Bonnet Parade on Easter Sunday, taking place in the church hall after the 10am service, for a bit of fun?
