PRELUDE: ANNOUNCEMENTS: WELCOME THE UNITED CHURCH OF CANADA St. Paul s Pastoral Charge April 8, 2018 INTROIT: Welcome Happy Morning VU 161 vs. 2 & R 2. Earth with joyful welcome clothes itself for spring; greets with life reviving our returning king: flowers in every pasture, leaves on every bough, speak of sorrows ended; Jesus triumphs now! R Welcome, happy morning! age to age shall say; hell today is vanquished, heaven is won today! LIGHTING OF CHRIST CANDLE: CALL TO WORSHIP: (responsively) Leader: ALL: Leader: ALL: HYMN: GOD GATHERS US TOGETHER We come to worship bringing many things: burdens and joys, weariness as well as celebration. We come to worship seeking many things: comfort and strength, answers as well as questions. We come to worship hoping many things: peace for the world, hope for the future, life for all of creation. Gather all of our gifts, our desires, and our hopes, and let them be our worship this day. Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Give Thanks VU 179 4 vs. 1. Jesus is Lord of all the earth, firstborn of all creation. R Hallelujah, hallelujah. Give thanks to the risen Christ; hallelujah, hallelujah! Give praise to God's name. 2. Spread the good news o'er all the earth: Jesus has died and is risen. R 3. We have been crucified with Christ, now we shall live for ever. R 1

4. Come let us praise the living God, joyfully sing to our Saviour. R Hallelujah, hallelujah. Give thanks to the risen Christ; hallelujah, hallelujah! Give praise to God's name. PRAYER OF APPROACH: CHILDREN S HYMN: This Is the Day That God Has Made VU 175 R, vs. 1 & R Rejoice! Rejoice, and be exceeding glad! Rejoice! Rejoice! Hallelujah! 1. Christ has conquered death at last, left the tomb that held him fast! Gone the sorrow, gone the night, dawns the morning clear and bright! R CHILDREN S TIME & LORD S PRAYER: CHILDREN S HYMN: This Is the Day That God Has Made VU 175 R, vs 2 & R Rejoice! Rejoice, and be exceeding glad! Rejoice! Rejoice! Hallelujah! 2. Jesus lives who once was dead, lives forever, as he said! Risen now our Saviour, King; songs of gladness let us sing! R Rejoice! Rejoice, and be exceeding glad! Rejoice! Rejoice! Hallelujah! PRAYER OF CONFESSION: (in unison) Gracious God, Known to us through Jesus Christ, active among us through the empowering Spirit, we give thanks for your abundant steadfast love. Entrusting ourselves to that love, we offer this prayer of confession. Forgive us when we are not your faithful servants and hesitate to share the Good News. Forgive us when we reflect more interest in self- 2

service than serving others. Forgive us when we regard the cross as decoration and consider its message as minor and when we back away from its calling us toward costly discipleship. Hear our prayers, O Lord, and grant us your gracious support as we strive to live our faith with the boldness and bravery of Jesus Christ. Amen. ASSURANCE OF PARDON: PRAYER OF ILLUMINATION: SCRIPTURES: EPISTLE Acts 4:32-35 pg. 122 WE HEAR GOD S WORD RESPONSIVE PSALM: Psalm 133 ONE: How wonderful and pleasant it is for God s people to live together in harmony; ALL: for unity is precious and fragrant, like the holy anointing oil that was poured on Aaron s head, and flowed down upon his vestments. ONE: The harmony that God gives is plenteous, like heavy dew that falls on Mount Hermon and on the hills around, ALL: Where this unity abounds, God bestows a blessing, abundant life that never ends. GOSPEL John 20:19-31 pg. 115 MINISTRY OF SONG: THE CHOIR MESSAGE PEACE BE WITH YOU HYMN: Make Me a Channel of Your Peace VU 684 1. Make me a channel of your peace: where there is hatred, let me bring your love; where there is injury, your healing power, and where there's doubt, true faith in you: 2. Make me a channel of your peace: where there's despair in life, let me bring hope; where there is darkness, only light; and where there's sadness, ever joy. O Spirit, grant that I may never seek so much to be consoled as to console, to be understood as to understand, to be loved as to love with all my soul. 3. Make me a channel of your peace. It is in pardoning that we are pardoned, in giving to all that we receive, and in dying that we're born to eternal life. 3 vs. 3

OFFERTORY SENTENCE: (responsively) ONE: ALL: OFFERING: WE RESPOND TO GOD S WORD All that we have, all that we are, is God s. Our task? In our giving, let us find peace. DEDICATION OF OFFERING Grant Us, God, the Grace VU 540 Grant us, God, the grace of giving, with a spirit large and free, that ourselves and all our living we may offer faithfully. OFFERTORY PRAYER: (in unison) In gratitude and humble trust, we bring our best today, to serve your cause and share your love with all, along life s way. O God, who gave yourself to us in Jesus Christ, your Son, teach us to give ourselves each day until life s work is done. PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE: IN JESUS NAME WE GO TO SERVE CLOSING HYMN: Saviour, Again to Your Dear Name VU 426 4 vs. 1. Saviour, again to your dear name we raise with one accord our parting hymn of praise; we give you thanks before our worship cease, then, in the silence hear your word of peace. 2. Grant us your peace upon our homeward way; with you began, with you shall end the day; guard now the lips from sin, the hearts from shame, that in this house have called upon your name. 3. Grant us your peace throughout the coming night; turn all our darkness to your perfect light; then, through our sleep, our hope and strength renew, for dark and light are both alike to you. 4. Grant us your peace throughout our earthly life, comfort in sorrow, courage in our strife; then, when your voice shall bid our conflict cease, call us, at last, to your eternal peace. 4
