******************************************************* N E W S I N D E T A I L ******************************************************* VARNASRAMA COLLEGE - 2010, COURSE ANNOUNCED Varnasrama College-2010 was announced. Advertisements were being made in www.dandavats.com, www.varnasrama.org, www.sskbk.org. Also, the advertisement was sent to all the temple presidents of the ICC (Inter Continental Committee - India); Global Varnasrama Mission conference and other conferences. Two courses are - Land, Cows and Krishna - II (3 Month Residential) and Pottery course (1 Month Residential) course. Pottery course is being conducted in association with KVIC (Khadi Village Industries Commission, Govt of India), whereas Land, Cows and Krishna II is being conducted in association with various organizations like, Sri Ramachandrapura math, Jeevaka Organics, Sakti, Seva, Dharmasthala Rural Development wing, Karnataka Honey bee association and Alva's Ayurvedic college. For queries, please write to: ISKCON DAIVA VARNASRAMA MINISTRY WAS FORMED Varnasrama missionaries will be happy to hear this news as recently IRGB (Indian Regional Governing Body) voted to form a national ministry to push Varnasrama mission. In Jagannath puri IRGB members voted the proposal made by IRGB set Varnasrama Development Committee during the meetings held in Visakhapatnam. Although passed unanimously a few hiccups stalled the formal resolution by IRGB. His Holiness Bhakti Raghava Maharaja will be heading this ministry. Sahyadri Sri Krishna Balaram Ksetra will function as the headquarters for the ministry to start with and hence it is a jubilant moment for all the residents of the farm here.
SRILA PRABHUPADA DEITY Srila Prabhupada comes to Sahyadri Sri Krishna Balaram Kestra. The small brass diety of Srila Prabhupada now decorates the altar. A sankirtan trip was taken around for Srila Prabhupada on Gita Jayanti. We thank a lot to HG Kanai Thakur Prabhu and HG Krishna Chandra Prabhu for making this possible. AGRICULTURE Moong Dal, Tur Dal, Sugarcane, Horse gram, Turmeric and Jowar cultivation is currently going on. The fields are being looked after. MAKING OUR OWN OIL Ginger growing in the Farm Regular production of oil for routine use of temple as well as the kitchen has been started. Coconut oil is being extracted at present. Oil from dried copra is the easiest to extract compared to any other oil seed. Coconut is highly fibrous and hence the fiber content of this oil very high and preserved during cold press by oil ghani. For an idea, oil yield by coconut is 98%; Sesame is 38%; Safflower is 44% and Groundnut is 35-39%. Also, oil extraction from copra is quickest compared other oil seeds. At present, we are not growing sesame or other oil seeds and hence coconut abundantly available in the farm will be utilized for oil extraction.
Cold pressed oils are most healthy compared to heat pressed refined oils available in the market which are most dangerous. First quality of oil is now being made for the pleasure of Sri Sri Krishna Balaram. PANCHAGAVYA PRODUCTION Tooth powder from the cow dung charcoal is being made. A bhatti of 20Sqft was prepared. Around 1300 Cow dung cakes/patties were made and used in making the tooth powder. Goark production continues. Currently 500ml bottles are being made. TRAINING Go-Ark Bottles Devotees attended few training courses and more are scheduled for next month. a. Pottery training: Laxminath Prabhu completed his four month residential Pottery training. The training was organized by Central Village Pottery Insitute (CVPI), under the auspices of Khadi Village Industries Commission (KVIC), Govt of India. The four month training included training in various utensils. Laxminath Prabhu
will also be a guide and faculty for the students undergoing pottery training during Varnasrama college-2010. b. Honeybee keeping training: Bharat Chandra Dasa attended 7 days extensive training organized by Horticulture dept, Govt of Karnataka. The training included various aspects of Honeybee keeping and Sahyadri Sri Krishna Balaram Ksetra will soon have its own honey production for the pleasure of Sri Sri Krishna Balaram. VISITORS This month saw a spurt of visitors coming to SSKBK. Rains have diminished now and hence many devotees came around. Few of the devotees who visited the farm were: a. Suryakunda Prabhu b. Chakrapani Prabhu from Switzerland c. Devotees from Belurus d. Bhakta Nataraj from Tamilnadu e. Devotees from Vrndavan f. Devotees from New zealand g. Jayadharma Das and Nata mataji along with friends We hope they had a wonderful Simple living - High thinking experience! VARNASRAMA READING Srila Prabhupada: Do not misunderstand that we are trying to spread Hinduism. Hinduism is a fictitious term...we don't find this word in the Vedic literature...this is the convention of latest age. Actually, we, the followers or Vedic principles, our system is varëäçrama-dharma, four varëas and four äçramas. This is, this can be applicable. But varëäçrama-dharma is applicable in any, in anywhere. Cäturvarëyaà mayä såñöaà guëa-karma-vibhägaçaù [Bg. 4.13]. The creation of God... Just like sun. Sun is creation of God. Sun is visible everywhere. Not that something American sun and something Indian sun. No. The sun is the same. Similarly, cäturvarëyaà, the four principles of division, brähmaëa, kñatriya, vaiçya, and çüdra, they are everywhere. It is not the monopoly of India. Srila Prabhupada:... So in the beginning if we start a varnasrama college to teach international ally students from all over the world to learn to be educated as brahmanas, as Ksatriyas, as vaisyas, as sudras, by quality and work, that will be the basic principle of Krishna Consciousness....If you kindly consider on this point and the varnasrama college is started, I am sure the chaotic condition of human society will be completely settled up.
