Plugging In for the Benefit of the Kingdom There are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. There are differences of ministries, but the same Lord. And there are diversities of activities, but it is the same God who works all in all. But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all (1 Corinthians 12:4-7, NKJV) There is a new way of doing ministry at High View Church of God with the affirmation of the new constitution by the congregation. This way of ministry is more consistent with the teachings of Scripture because it attempts to involve everyone in doing the work of God. Apostle Paul explained to the Roman believers about the different gifts. These gifts are for the benefit of others so that all will be encouraged and equipped to go and serve the Lord in the manner they were created and called by God to do so. The list of gifts is found here in 1 Corinthians 12 and also in Ephesians 4. Other gifts can be found mentioned elsewhere in Scripture, but these are the major areas where most can be read. A person receives these gifts when they come to faith in Christ. Their spiritual gifts are much like their maturity in Christ. Growth of both happens over time as the child of God learns to trust their Lord. The more a gift is applied to life the more efficient a person will be used by the Spirit of God. Many people get confused about who is actually working when a person uses their spiritual gift: them or the Spirit moving through them. The answer to this question is clear when Jesus told His disciples, Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me. I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing (John 15:4-5, NKJV). Spiritual gifts are given as the Spirit knows best. Those gifts work in conjunction with a person s personality and natural talents. When God s people find their spiritual gift and begin to put it into service for the body of Christ and benefit of the kingdom of God, there is growth that is unavoidable in a person s life. The person who applies their spiritual gift will get the sensation as a golfer who has just played their best 18 holes, or the feeling a mechanic receives when the car they build is running at the peak of performance. There is joy and satisfaction in allowing God to have His way in circumstances that surpasses any joy a person experiences from earthly pleasures. This is why so many in the church worshiping lack the joy of the Lord that should be inextinguishable. Find out what your spiritual gift might be by taking a Spiritual Gift Inventory. You can find one on the website s home page. Go to www.hvcog.org and print off the questions and answer sheet. You can also get a paper copy from the office. Once you find out what your three highest scoring gifts are, ask God how to apply them. If you would like to talk to someone about how they can be used in the ministries at High View, see Pastor Tom or Pastor Jason. The joy of the Lord is waiting to be discovered as you minister to the body of Christ and those outside the church who need to know Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. Pastor Tom Charles and Anne Marie Smoker Sports is a language the Japanese understand, concluded Charles after outreach events in Japan during the World Cup in 2002. With decades of ministry experience in Japan, the Smokers join GLINTS with the express intention of continuing their thrust of using soccer ministry to draw Japanese to the joy of knowing Jesus Christ. Pray with them as they seek to raise a new generation of Christ-followers.
