Reflections: Welcome Don t Worry Are you a professional worrier? Many people spend large portions of their days worrying about where their life is or where it is going. Professional worriers can always find something to fear and something to be concerned about. We worry about our careers, family members, retirement, bills, grades, our schedules and on it goes. The word worry comes to us from an old AngloSaxon word which means to choke or to strangle. Isn t that exactly what worry does to us? It robs us of our time and of the joy of our lives. Jesus and the disciples understood how destructive worry could be in the life of a person. They spent many years preaching to destroy the worries of people s lives. When we examine what we worry about, we find that it really is a waste of time. Here are four reasons for us to worry less and enjoy life more. 1. Worry is unreasonable Much of what we worry about is in the past. We can t change the past and so it is better for us to offer our worries up to God. This is the surest way to defeat this type of worrying. 2. Worry is unnatural God created us not to worry, but to be free of worry in life. We learn to worry from life experiences. The great news about this is, that we can unlearn worrying. Beginning our day with a positive memory can help our brain learn to be free of worry. 3. Worry is unhelpful It really doesn t help! It can t change the past or improve the future. When we worry about a problem we have in life, it just gets bigger. Better to create a plan that works to address our concerns. 4. Worry is Unnecessary God has promised to take care of you if you ll trust him with the details of your life. As a child, if you asked your father for lunch money you never worried about where it would come from. That was his problem. Let God be God in your life! God will take care of you, just have faith. Saint Paul in his letter today tells us that God wants us to be free of anxiety. Anxiety and worrying about the things that face us every day seem to interrupt the joy God wants our days to be guided by. I know that when I face worry, I like to sing a little Bob Marley. Don t worry about a thing, because every little (and big? thing) is gonna be alright! God Bless, Deacon Christ Expert Worrier Is God Calling You? Do You Know Someone Who Would Like To Learn More About The Catholic Faith? Is There Someone You Know Who Is Baptized Catholic, But Never Received The Sacraments of Eucharist and Confirmation? St. Patrick s RCIA Team is excited to invite you on A Journey of Faith. Let us walk with you as you discover more about the Catholic Faith and its role in our lives. For more information please contact Deacon Chris Finan at (508) 2345656. The Young Neighbors In Action and Anne Haas are collecting bottles and cans to help to defray the cost of the 2018 YNIA service trip. Please drop off your clean cans and bottles in the Parish Center. If you would like to have someone pick them up at your home, please call Anne Haas at 5082349163. Thank you for supporting our YNIA!
