Ceremony Planning The ceremony should be celebrated in the spirit of prayer, solemnity, simplicity and festivity. With the proper preparation, this event can be a most meaningful faith experience for the young lady, her family and her parish community. The main focus of the ceremony is for the young lady to renew her commitment to live a life of chastity and service to God and neighbor. The ceremony should not resemble a wedding or be confused with a wedding in any way. Liturgy: St. Hyacinth allows the celebration of the Quinceaños to be within the context of the Catholic mass if the family desires, depending on the availability of our Priest. If Fr. Reginald is not available, then the presider will be a Deacon with the understanding that the ceremony will be a Liturgy of the Word. Eucharist: Eucharist is only given in the context of a mass. All participants in the ceremony need to understand that only practicing Catholics in good standing with the Church are allowed to receive. St. Hyacinth Catholic Church Quinceanos Guidelines 9/29/2016 4:41 PM 6

Ceremony Planning Continued Readings: With the ceremony there are three readings and a psalm. The first reading comes from the Old Testament, the second from the New Testament and then the Gospel reading. It is suggested that one of the following readings be used for the ceremony. The girl should reach each one before making a decision. Old Testament Readings: Deuteronomy 6:1-2, 4-6 1 Samuel 3:1-10, 19 Isaiah 43:1-7 Jeremiah 1:4-8 Psalm: I wait for you, O Lord 25:1-7 The Lord is My light and my salvation; whom do I fear? 27:1-5 I will bless the Lord at all times 34:2-6 I thank you, Lord, with all my heart. 138:1-6 New Testament Readings: Romans 5:15-18 1 Corinthians 13:1-13 Ephesians 4:1-6 Gospel: Matthew 5:13-16 Mark 8:34-38 Luke 1:46-55 John 8:12-19 St. Hyacinth Catholic Church Quinceanos Guidelines 9/29/2016 4:41 PM 7

Ceremony Planning Continued Music: To ensure that the music meets the requirements suitable for a mass or liturgy of the word, our director of music or their designated representative, is required to be hired for all ceremonies. The cost is included in the overall fee. Outside groups can be hired for the ceremony but they must be familiar with the Catholic mass, all music is required to be sacred and must have prior meeting and approval with the Director of Liturgy and Music. Music in the ceremony is also required to be chosen as to allow participation from those gathered. Our music director is versed in English, Spanish and Bi-lingual songs. The following songs are suggestions but not limited to: English: Joyful, Joyful We Adore Thee (Ode to Joy) ~ Beethoven Gather Us In ~ Marty Haugen Hail Mary: Gentle Woman ~ Carey Landry This Is the Day ~ Bobby Fisher Spanish: Demos Gracias al Señor ~ Cesáreo Gabaráin Bi-lingual: Ven al Banquete/ Come to the Feast ~ Bob Hurd Vayan al Mundo/ Go Out to the World ~ Jaime Cortez St. Hyacinth Catholic Church Quinceanos Guidelines 9/29/2016 4:41 PM 8
