My Dear Family in Christ and in Mary, Alleluia! The Lord is Risen! He is Risen indeed! With these words, known as the Paschal Greeting, we acclaim and attest Our Lord s glorious Resurrection from the tomb, thereby triumphing over the pall of sin and death. The Easter Acclamation is to be our very own testament of Christ s victory in the sure and certain hope that we too one day will share in this miraculous raising. This fundamental truth is the wellspring of our salvation that happens not just once at the end of life as we know it but also each and every time we avail ourselves to Our Father God s Prodigal Love and Mercy! As we participate in the daily conversion of mind and heart, our souls are raised up and begin again to ascend anew the spiritual heights of majestic grandeur and Christ s resplendent Glory! Like so many of you, I too rejoice and give thanks to Almighty God and to Our Blessed Mother Mary for all the many graces and blessings imparted to our beloved Parish and to all the many souls who have found peace and renewal, joy and healing here at St. Martin de Porres Church. It is an awesome privilege and sacred honor to walk with you whom I love, dear and precious spouse, in good times and bad, in sickness and in health, while becoming all that God created us to become before we are able to see Him face to face. I also thank you for loving me in return despite my own many imperfections, limitations and inadequacies. We are truly a family, a family of faith, and notwithstanding each of our growth edges, we continue to persevere together in our pilgrim walk to the New and Heavenly Jerusalem. And so on this Easter Sunday 2018, amidst all the pain and sorrow and suffering in and throughout the world, it is good that we are here to celebrate together the Paschal Mystery that has become fulfilled in the victory of Our Lord and Savior s Resurrection and His triumphant return to His Father, to your Father and my Father! May every grace and blessing under Heaven and even some that may be expressly for the Communion of Saints, be yours throughout the Easter Season and always! And together, let our voices resound with great joy, Alleluia! The Lord is Risen! He is Risen indeed! BLESSED AND JOYOUS EASTER! MASS FOR HEALING AND DELIVERANCE IN HONOR OF ST. FILOMENA, VIRGIN AND MARTYR Fr. James will celebrate a Mass for Healing and Deliverance On Wednesday, April 4th at 6:00 PM. We will begin the evening with praying of the Angelus, the Novena to St. Filomena and the Holy Rosary.

Novena to Divine Mercy will be prayed at all Masses beginning on Good Friday, and ending at Vigil Mass of Divine Mercy Sunday Divine Mercy Sunday Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament and Sacramental Confession 2pm to 3pm Recitation of the Chaplet of Divine Mercy & Litany to Divine Mercy 3 pm to 4 pm Sacramental Confession - 4pm to 5pm Benediction/Reposition of the Blessed Sacrament - 5 pm Followed by Celebration of Holy Mass Plenary Indulgence for Divine Mercy Sunday A decree dated August 3, 2002, the Apostolic Penitentiary announced three conditions for a plenary indulgence to be granted under the usual conditions, (Sacramental Confession twenty days before or after Divine Mercy Sunday, Eucharistic Communion and prayer for the intentions of The Holy Father) to the faithful who, on the Second Sunday of Easter or Divine Mercy Sunday, in any church or chapel, in a spirit that is completely detached from the affection for a sin, even a venial sin, take part in the prayers and devotions held in honor of Divine Mercy, or who, in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament exposed or reserved in the tabernacle, recite the Our Father and the Creed, adding a devout prayer to the merciful Lord Jesus (e.g. Merciful Jesus, I trust in you!"); Additional provisions are offered for those who are impeded from fulfilling these requirements, but wish to acquire the plenary indulgence. The full text of the decree of the Apostolic Penitentiary may be found at: www.mercysunday.com

THE FEAST OF DIVINE MERCY SUNDAY April 8, 2018 On Sunday afternoon, April 8th, the Feast of Divine Mercy, we will celebrate this extraordinary Grace-filled day with the following observances: 2pm - EXPOSITION OF THE BLESSED SACRAMENT & THE SACRAMENT OF RECONCILIATION 3pm- RECITATION OF THE CHAPLET OF DIVINE MERCY & LITANY TO DIVINE MERCY 4pm- THE SACRAMENT OF RECONCILIATION 5pm- BENEDICTION/REPOSITION OF THE BLESSED SACRAMENT FOLLOWED BY CELEBRATION OF THE HOLY MASS AN APPEAL TO OUR MISSED CATHOLIC BROTHERS AND SISTERS On April 30, 2000, St. Pope John Paul II established the First Sunday after Easter as Divine Mercy Sunday. Jesus told St. Faustina that this Feast of Mercy would be a very special day when all the divine floodgates through which graces flow are opened. The Feast of Divine Mercy is celebrated each year for the purpose of providing a refuge and shelter for souls, and especially poor sinners. On that day the very depths of My tender mercy are open. I pour out a whole ocean of graces upon the souls who approach the Fount of My Mercy. On that day all the divine floodgates through which graces flow are opened. Let no soul fear to draw near to Me, even though its sins be as scarlet- Mankind will not have peace until it turns to the Fount of My Mercy. (Diary of St. Faustina 699) Jesus promised, I want to grant complete pardon to the souls that will go to Confession and receive Holy Communion on the Feast of My Mercy. (Diary 1109) COME HOME TO THE CATHOLIC CHURCH AND RECEIVE GOD S MERCY!!!

To the Knights of Columbus Council 8048 for their generous donation for the Easter flowers. Velda Jones A New Look at the Divinely-Inspired Book of Psalms For two thousand years the Catholic Church in its divine worship has prayed the ancient Psalms, which are often attributed to King David. The early Church Fathers saw the whole Psalter as a prophecy of Christ and the Church (General Introduction of the Liturgy of the Hours, Volume 1, page 59). In fact, the Book of Psalms has always been at the heart of the Church s life of prayer. In our own day, Biblical scholars have grouped the Psalms into different literary categories, e.g., Confidence Psalms, Hymns of Praise and Thanksgiving, Royal Psalms, Wisdom Psalms, Psalms of Supplication, Penitential Psalms, and Deliverance Psalms (c.f., Leopold Sabourin, S.J., The Psalms, New York: Alba House, 1974, page 443). In 1974, while teaching a course on the Psalms to a group of parishioners at one of our Franciscan parishes in New Jersey, I discovered that seven literary categories of all 150 Psalms could easily be matched with the seven phrases of the Lord s Prayer. I believe that Jesus has, in effect, provided his Church, with the Lord s Prayer, a concise summary of the elements of King David s prayer book, the Psalms.
