Jesus is teaching when he tells a story (parable). When you were lile, what was your favorite story that taught you a lesson? (Think about any of the Aesop stories or any other story with a lesson you heard as a child.) 2. What lesson do you get from the story of the 10 waing virgins? Are you a person who plans ahead or someone who does things at the last moment? How does this relate to your spiritual life as you wait for Jesus, the bridegroom to come? 3. What is the oil that keeps your lamp lit? How can you replenish it? Sellersburg/Speed Food Pantry Needs: Crackers & Corn Muffin Mixes SHOWING OUR THANKS (GIVING) Sellersburg Ministerial Associaon s Annual Thanksgiving Ecumenical Service: Wednesday, November 22nd at 7pm at the St. Paul St. John Paul II s Annual Thanksgiving Day Mass: Thursday, November 23rd at 9am at the St. Paul. Come show your thanks by celebrang the Eucharisc with your parish family and help feed the community by bringing canned goods (see pg 3). Dear St. John Paul II Parishioner, What a difference a year makes! Veterans Day weekend 2016 I wrote a leer for the bullen explaining that my husband, Bryant, had recently been deployed to the Middle East. A7er an 11 month absence, we have been blessed with his safe return! If you ask Bryant about his deployment, you will get his standard answer It was a good mission. We are doing good things there. He has said that many of the soldiers he was with agreed that if they could come home to see their families they would be willing to go back. These are soldiers who missed all of the lile things with their families for a year, along with many big things. Three of the soldiers Bryant was deployed with had babies born during the me they were gone. So, thanks be to God that there are men and women who know exactly what they were signing up for when they raised their right hand and took an oath, and did it anyway. Ft. Bragg, Ft. Benning, Ft. Campbell, Minot AFB, Norfolk, Afghanistan, Syria, Iraq, Jordan, Niger, Kuwait, Germany, Korea, South America, Pacific Islands; it doesn t maer where they served. Paratrooper, Tanker, Rifleman, Flight Crew, Security Forces, Cook, Mail Handler, Pay Clerk, Truck Driver; it doesn t maer how they served. What maers is that they are the 1% of Americans who answered their country s call to serve. At St. John Paul II Catholic School we are leading by example, and modeling respect for veterans. Our second graders recently presented a Veterans program. This past week our school children partnered with the Parish Life Commiee to host a special Mass and recepon for Veterans. To all the new recruits in Basic Training, for those several years into their service, or several years into their military rerement, I honor you, pray for you, and thank you for your service. I encourage all of those reading this to do the same, not just this Veterans Day weekend, but every day. Karen Haas Principal

Building God s Kingdom by growing disciples & making disciples through love of God & neighbor. In 1633, the Thirty Years War raged in Europe. A deadly plague spread throughout the connent. The small Alpine village of Oberammergau made a pledge to God that if God would release them from the plague they would honor God by performing the story of the passion of Christ every 10 years. From the me of that prayer unl the plague was over no other people from the town of Oberammergau died of the plague. Since 1634, the town has kept their promise. In 2020, I will join with Father Clem Davis of St. Bartholomew Parish in Columbus, IN in leading a Classical European Tour which will include a stop in Oberammergau for the Passion Play. Fliers are available in the back of Church with more informaon. We have very limited spots for this trip, and they will be handled on a first come, first serve basis. Registraon forms are contained in the fliers. If you are interested and/or have any quesons, please contact me at 502 553-3770 or at tclegg@stjohnpaulparish.org.
