Contact Sue Goehring at sgoeh@drtel.net if you have any questions or would like to help out. Cursillo de Cursillo Sign-up Today A Cursillo De Cursillo (CDC) will be conducted September 12-15, 2013 (Thursday evening through Sunday afternoon) at the Retreat Center in Hankinson, ND. The CDC will be conducted by members of the Region 6 Cursillo Team, including Ceferino (Cef) Aguillon, the Coordinator for English Cursillos in the U.S and Jim Wells, our Region 6 Coordinator. Cursillo de Cursillo is a special form of Cursillo intended for anyone who has already made a Cursillo. The intent of Cursillo de Cursillo is to deepen our understanding of the cursillo method and spirituality, so that we might live our 4th Day with greater fervor. During this Cursillo de Cursillo the regional team will also spend time explaining, in detail, all of the sections of the School of Leaders and authentic Cursillos. For those already in the School of Leaders, a CDC is equivalent to two-years worth of Technique Talks and covers much of the same material that would normally be covered during SCOL meetings. For that reason it is imperative for members of the SCOL to attend the CDC! The CDC is open to all Cursillistas you need not be a member of the SCOL to attend. You can pay for the weekend at the door, but register today! An application form is attached. Seeking Adult to Provide Childcare During Fargo Ultreyas The Fargo Ultreya team is seeking an adult volunteer to provide childcare during the Group Sharing and Witness talk portion of Ultreyas. This service will be a way of providing Palanca to fellow Cursillistas with small children who might not otherwise be able to attend Ultreyas. Adults interested in providing this service would need to be certified by the Fargo Diocese through its Safe Environment training. Information on this training is available on the Fargo Diocese website at: http://www.fargodiocese.org/safeenvironment If you have questions contact Jennine Seitz at (701) 540-8668 or jseitz@cableone.net

Notes from the Regional Encounter: Dodge City, KS Ben Seitz and Fr. Cote attended this Spring Regional Encounter in Dodge City, KS April 19-21. It began on Friday evening at 7:30 with night prayer, a meditation and time for Reconciliation with 3 or 4 priests available and concluded with Mass and breakfast on Sunday morning. The main portion of the Encounter took place on Saturday. It began with Morning Prayer and Mass at 7:00 AM followed by breakfast. Beginning at 9:00AM there was three talks presented on Precursillo, with adequate time for discussion and questions, after each talk, directed to the regional team member who gave these talks. After noon lunch there was a spiritual talk given by the acting regional spiritual advisor, Fr. Mark Seiger, who gave his presentation on the Vatican II Council document on Decree on the Apostolate of the Laity. It had to do with the Church s call to leadership of the laity in the Church after Vatican II, which fits in perfectly with the lay leadership called for in the Cursillo Movement. After his presentation there was time for small group discussion on his talk. At 2:30PM the schedule called for a meeting of the diocesan lay directors, but it was decided that all the English speaking participants stay together instead for a general discussion session, which proved to be very interesting and informative. It was also a great opportunity for the group to share questions and concerns we have in our respective dioceses. At 5:00 o clock we had an anticipated Sunday Mass followed by supper. That evening the English and Spanish participants came together for small group sharing, a witness talk and an Ultreya. The evening concluded with a fiesta. Below is a brief recap of the Precursillo Workshop we attended. As we know the three great parts of the Cursillo Movement are: Precursillo, Cursillo and Postcursillo, which constitute an organic unity in the Movement. It is important to remember the consequences that result when one of these elements is weakened or does not function well. Likewise, any improper adaptations of these parts can stagnate or bring about the demise of the Cursillo Movement in a diocese, because these three parts are interrelated. To better understand the relationship between these three parts, consider the definition of Precursillo. Precursillo is the study of environments and searching of influential persons with those environments. Precursillo is also responsible for the preparation of the candidates who will attend the Cursillo, with a view toward a personal living-out of the Cursillo in the Postcursillo. Unfortunately, the Precursillo is probably the LEAST understood part of the Cursillo Method, but in terms of evangelizing environments, it the MOST IMPORTANT ELEMENT of the method. Hopefully, this presentation will assist us in obtaining a deeper understanding and appreciation of this very important element of the method. In the early 1940 s in Spain the founders of the Cursillo Movement perceived a grim reality in society, namely a world that was turned away from God, from Christ and His Church. Life was no longer Christian in spite of the external manifestations of Christianity. Christian influence even in Catholic circles was barely evident. The founders believed the only solution was to restore and transform the world from its foundation by means of the Cursillo Movement. Today s society has a similar situation; there is a divorce between the Gospel and the culture of today. Today our society is focused on materialism, secularism, consumerism and agnosticism. The Cursillo Movement once again appears to be the best answer, namely the transformation of society into a living Christianity. The Cursillo Movement seeks to Christianize or evangelize those people responsible for creating or influencing structures already in existence so as to give a Christian backbone to the world. We must strive to live and share what is fundamental to being Christian loving of God and love of neighbor. The Cursillo Movement seeks the living out of the Kingdom of God, as Christ mentions in Matthew 6:33: Seek first the Kingdom of God and his justice, and all these other things will be given you besides. Consequently, the Cursillo places its emphasis on three great truths of what is fundamental to being a Christian Christ, grace, faith, Church and Sacraments. The living out of basic Christianity is realized in the Cursillo Movement in these 4 areas: an encounter with God, friendship with Christ, community with one s brothers and sisters and apostolic responsibility make a friend, be a friend and bring that friend to Christ. The purpose of Cursillo is twofold: the immediate one - to provide a foundation to live out what is fundamental to being a Christian, through the three encounters: the encounter with self, with Christ and others: the ultimate purpose: to vertebrae Christianity in society with those who live what is fundamental with being a Christian (love of God and love of neighbor), while strengthening the 3 encounters. Once again to summarize: The Precursillo element of Cursillo is the study of environments and searching out of influential persons within those environments. Precursillo must also be responsible for the preparation of the candidates, who will make the three-day Cursillo, with a view toward helping them achieve a perennial living out of the Cursillo in the Post Cursillo. Thus, we see how the three elements of the Cursillo Movement are intimately related and inseparable from one another. We need to keep emphasizing this idea in our School of Leaders. Fr. Duaine Cote, Spiritual Advisor
