FALL 2016 1967-2017 It has been fifty years since the Six Day War! Surely one of Israel s formative moments, it continues to have repercussions in the present day. To commemorate this anniversary, please join us for several Adult Education experiences in the coming year: THANKSGIVING SERVICE Holy Cross Catholic Church, Deerfield Sunday, November 20 7:00PM - 9:00PM Join us for a multi-faith celebration of all our blessings. WISE AGING Tuesdays on October 25, November 1, November 15, November 29, and Decebmber 6 7:00PM A special opportunity to find tools to navigate the challenges of aging as we find joy and meaning in our lives. This is more of a chavurah (a group of friends), than a class. Be prepared to share stories from your own life, to listen deeply to others, to study the Jewish tradition that venerates aging and its wisdom, and to feel the richness and joy of the common moment.

Screened at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival. Held at ArcLight Cinemas, 1850 Tower Drive, Glenview. Rabbi Serotta will lead a discussion after the film. THE BEN HECT SHOW Theatre/Drama Saturday, January 28 Starring James Sherman Famous Chicago newspaperman turned playwright, screenwriter and novelist confronts his Jewish identity in the face of the Holocaust. Originally performed at the Piven Theatre. Evening includes discussion and dessert. ANNE FRANK CANTATA Music Sunday, April 23, 10:30AM, preceded by a 10:00AM service Adapted from Annelies, original music composed by James Whitbourn, and performed by Cantor Aviva Katzman, Lakeside s Adult Choir, and conducted by Dr. Richard Boldrey. A contemporary piece contrasting the hope and innocence of Anne Fank with the chilling reality of the Nazi regime. Timed to coincide both with Yom HaShoah and to cap off a weekend of special events honoring the beginning of Rabbi Ike s 20th year at Lakeside.

During this fivepart series, we will read and discuss Like Dreamers by Yossi Klein Halevi. The acclaimed Israeli Journalist brings together the stories of seven young paratroopers who united East and West Jerusalem and captured the old city. He follows their lives from then to now, a single unit in 1967, remarkably divergent in their views of Israel today, and in their hopes for the future. TORAH AND THE TRAMPS PART TWO Vanessa M. ONGOING 2016-2017 BIBLE STUDY Every Saturday morning 9:30AM Rabbi Isaac Serotta leads a free-wheeling Bible discussion for an hour before our weekly Shabbat service. We will be starting the book of Joshua - an excellent time to join the group. HEALING SERVICE First Tuesday of every month 6:30PM Whether it is a question of mind, body, or spirit, all of us need a quiet place to heal. Join us for monthly words of comfort and inspiration. We will have a family experience the second Sunday of the month (groups will be divided by age) in which we will explore major topics of spirituality across various traditions and practices.
