NEWPORT MESSENGER NEWPORT BAPTIST CHURCH PASTOR S PEN My Church Family, The whole world got the news this morning (February 21 st ) about the passing of Rev. Billy Graham. I don t think anyone else in recent history has had a greater influence for the gospel than he has. He preached a simple gospel to millions of people throughout his ministry, and it s quite possible that millions came to faith in Jesus because of him. My sweet wife found Christ through a Billy Graham movie as a teenager, and it changed her life. Rev. Graham was a simple man completely surrendered to a holy God. It makes you wonder what God can do through simple people like you and me if we will completely surrender to God and let Him work through us. Our Revival is March 4-7. There s going to be great preaching and singing, and the gospel will surely be presented. Our schedule looks like this: Sunday morning Pastor Jack Bowen Sunday evening @6pm Rev. Fred Simpson Monday evening @7pm Dr. Steve Simpson Tuesday evening @7pm Dr. Scott Gleason (pack-a-pew night and dinner at 6pm) Wednesday evening @7pm a concert by Denver Bierman Our job is to pray for a powerful moving of God and to spread the word. Invite, invite, invite!! Bring folks with you when you come. Easter isn t far off April 1 st. We ll have our Sunrise Service that morning followed by breakfast, then Sunday School at 9:45. During the Morning Service (11am) the choir will present Redeemed... By The Blood Of The Lamb. Again, invite, invite, invite!! Bring folks with you when you come. Don t forget about the Community Eater Egg Hunt the Saturday before Easter at the town park. Thankful to be serving with you, Pastor Gary
DEACON S DESK Are We Paying Attention? The title of this article may cause you to think it s about paying attention during Pastor Gary s sermons. Yes, paying attention to Pastor Gary is important but I m talking about something much larger. I m talking about paying attention to God s blessings in our daily lives, so we don t miss them. I am reminded of Simeon s song, Luke Chapter 2, where God promised Simeon he would not die until he had seen the Messiah s coming. Jesus was born and, eight days later when Mary and Joseph took Him to the temple, Simeon was waiting there. He immediately recognized that this was the Christ child, the One for whom he had waited, and he rejoiced. He took Jesus into his arms and praised God saying, Lord now you are letting Your servant depart in peace according to Your word. Simeon was waiting, listening, and looking expectantly for that Child, for that blessing. In other words, he was paying attention. It made me wonder how many blessings I miss because I m too absorbed in the day-to-day to look around me and see the world through God s perspective, to listen to what God may be telling me, or not being patient to see what God has in store for me. I am going to challenge myself this week to ask God each day to help me take time out of my day to see His many blessings, help me see things for what they really are in His sight, and recognize His goodness all around me. I hope you ll do the same and, if you do, I know we ll see God s blessings like we ve never seen them before. Let me know how it goes! Sunday School provides structure for teaching God's word. 6 Reasons Sunday School is important 1. Sunday School Improves your Bible knowledge. 2. Sunday School assists your spiritual growth. Think of Sunday School teachers and class members who have modeled the Christian Life. Our church is full of teachers like that. 3. Sunday School provides a place for you to belong. You are known by others. You can share with those about your age. 4. Sunday School helps you build meaningful relationships you can minister with classmates, alongside others. 5. Sunday School gives us the opportunity to serve and minister to those unchurched and class members. This is where you show the love of Jesus. 6. Sunday School is a place where your entire family can come to for Sunday School classes that are age appropriate for individual Bible Study in small groups. You Are Invited! Youth stuff Y'all are doing good with stuffing the eggs for the community Easter egg hunt but we have lots more to go to be ready. Keep praying for the weather, and the kids and their families that God will prepare their hearts to hear how much He loves them and what He did for them in Christ. Also, be watching the bulletin board outside the office for opportunities to help at the event. Please continue to be in prayer also for our upcoming revival services. Remember, the more you go the more you grow! You will really enjoy Denver on Wed night, March 7. Please make every effort to be here as much as you can and bring your friends! It is almost time for our annual Egg Stuffing Pizza Party. Make plans to be in the youth room early on Wednesday, March 28. Bring your friends! We will take a head count at 6:06 and order pizza based on that number so if you want to eat you must be there by that time. We will finish the eggs and move them downstairs in time for you to go home at 7:30. You will be receiving info about camp in the mail soon. Be watching for it and praying about it. Keep following Jesus and keep up the good work Y all! Tammy Newport Baptist Church exists to bring glory to God and bring others to Jesus Christ. Newport Baptist Church P.O. Box 1330 Newport, NC 28570
