Together. This week I have taken some time off while our kids are on spring break so that I can spend some time with them, and so that Ann and I can create a healthy place for plants to grow in the front yard of our home. We are planning it and doing the work together. We are working on this because the current plant beds were so low that rain water pools there and drowns the plants. So, we are raising the beds and creating a decorative feature to help with the drainage. We wanted to create a good environment so plants could grow and be healthy and beautiful. We are doing this together and I am enjoying doing this with her. As we have been working the past few days, I have been reflecting on where we are going as a church as we work toward our mission of making disciples for Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. Like gardening, we want to be a church that is a community of people who, are together, a fertile ground where people can come to follow Jesus and to grow deeper in loving like Jesus, living like Jesus, and serving like Jesus. This is the process we believe is biblical and follows the ways that Jesus led people into a transformed life in relationship with God and one another. Jesus called people into a life of loving God and having a relationship with God that is deep and personal. Jesus also called people into a life of loving our neighbors in a deep and personal way, whoever they may be, even if they are our enemies. Jesus promised us that when we seek this way of life, we are changed and transformed! So following Jesus is always communal - community with God and community with people. Jesus even said to his followers that whenever we gather together in His name, even 2 or 3, He will be there. Jesus invites us into a community where we are cared for, where we are loved, where we are changed and transformed, and where we help others come to follow Jesus. I hunger for these things - for growth and change in my own life. Having gone through the stories of the cross and of Easter resurrection, I want to experience more of Jesus in my life so that I can offer more of Jesus to those around me. Because the truth is, those in my world need more of Jesus. They need more of Jesus, I need more of Jesus and our community needs more of Jesus. My prayer is that our community finds Jesus in us and that we experience more of Jesus as we move forward together.
