The Five Fold Ministries The whole structure of the New Testament ministry is based on the five-fold ministries. We believe the five-fold ministries are necessary to carry out God's plan. We believe that each person is given a unique talent to strengthen the church of Christ, to perfect Christians and spread the word of God. We believe that Christ set up offices in order to establish the body of Christ until His return. These offices include apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors and teachers. Each office has a duty to carry out certain responsibilities, and the people who embody these gifts are trusted to hold the following: And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ. Ephesians 4:11-13 According to the Word of God (Ephesians 4: 11-13) the five-fold gifts of ministry were given to the church for: The Perfecting Of the Saints Ephesians 5:27 says, "That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing: but that it should be holy and without blemish".. Perfection of the Body is progressive. The Five-Fold Ministries are to help us attain perfection in our personal lives, and in our ministry. Without it our ministries are imperfect. All believers have the responsibility and freedom to receive the perfection through Apostles, Prophets, Evangelists, pastors and teachers. Perfection of every saint affects the perfection of the whole Body of Christ. To construct a building, different kinds of tradesmen work together; this is the same with the Body of Christ. Our coming together should be towards the perfecting of the saints. If we cannot work together the building will be imperfect. "Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection... Heb 6:1 Work of the Ministry The work of the ministry is not only evangelism but it includes all kinds of ministries that God has placed in the church. The church needs the five classes of gifted persons - Apostles, Prophets, Evangelists, Pastors and Teachers... to train the saints for the ministry. A local church may be successful in evangelism without having the five-fold ministry: but the believers of that church cannot be equipped for specific ministry. If there is no Apostle in a Local church, how can anyone, who has a calling for Apostolic Ministry, be trained for that ministry? The Local church is supposed to be the training center for the saints.

Do we acknowledge the five-fold ministry in our local churches? Where are the Apostles, prophets, Evangelists and Teachers in our churches? Look at the first century local churches. "Now there were in the church that was at Antioch certain Prophets and Teachers: as Barnabas and Simeon that was called Niger, and Lucius of Cy-rene, and Manaen, which had been brought within Herod the Tatrach, and Saul. "Acts 13:1. There were five prophets and Teachers in Antioch Church. What about our churches? Paul wrote to Corinthian. Church, "let the PROPHETS speak two or three, and let the other judge" 1 Cor 14:29 which reveals that there were more than three prophets in that church. New Testament Ministry is not one man ministry. It is a corporate ministry. When the Five Fold ministry is harmoniously operative, all the saints will be trained and equipped to do what God wants them to do. For The Edifying Of the Body of Christ Edifying means building up. Through the five-fold ministry, Holy Spirit builds up the whole body of Christ, which is unique and universal. The universal body of Christ is not a human organization, nor it is a specific domination; but it is an organism, which is being built up for the Lord. All the local churches are members of the universal Body of Christ. To build His body, Christ Jesus uses the five-fold ministry. God supplies balanced food through these five gifted persons to all saints. Just like your natural body, the body of the Lord is to be nourished by the balanced food from the five-fold. Most of us receive only one kind of nourishment from one man ministry. This limits us in our spiritual growth. We can easily overdose on that one ministry. But the Lord nourishes and cherishes his body through the five-fold ministry. For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church: (Eph 5:29). We have a right to receive Full Nourishment from the HEAD (Jesus Christ) through the five-fold ministry? God wants us to grow into Jesus Christ in ALL THINGS (Eph 4:15) and can be made possible when we expose our self to the five-fold ministry. The function of every member in the Body is also important for the corporate building up of the universal church From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love. Eph 4: 16 It is God's plan that the Church grow into a perfect MAN-- unto the Measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ. Eph 4:13. Building up of the Church is more important than its growth in number.

Apostle o The Apostles are sent to GOVERN the Body of Christ. The word Apostle means one sent forth, a sent one. Missionaries are sent. God requires the Apostle to guide and influence His people. We see examples of this throughout the Bible. The Apostle s responsibility is to oversee the local, regional and worldwide churches. Apostles are visionary leaders for their communities and are good at delegating responsibilities. They are administrators for doctrine and discipline. Represented by the thumb, the Apostle is the only gift that touches all the gifting. Prophet o A Prophet is one who GUIDES. A Prophet is one who utters a communication, in speaking the mind of God. The Old Testament Prophet was also called a seer and a watchman. It is believed that they have the ability to convey messages from God and foretell what God will do in the future for people, society or the church. Prophets are good at encouraging and preaching. They should have a strong sense of right and wrong and have the ability to see things as black and white which would give them a keen sense of justice. Some prophets are introverts, preferring their solitude to social situations. They enjoy their private prayer time. Their responsibility is to recognize, understand and proclaim God's word. Represented by the index finger (pointer) to show the way. Evangelist o The evangelist is one who brings GATHERS. Evangelists are a soul winner, which is the mark of their calling. Their main message is the gospel message of Jesus Christ. The office of an Evangelist has an anointing that draws people. Because of their ability to persuade they are considered convincing communicators, making them good salesmen and giving them the power to influence many people. They have a deep-rooted desire to draw men and women unto Christ. They are adaptable people with the ability to thrive in any situation or culture. Represented by the longest finger (reaching out to gather). Pastor o The pastor is one who GUARDS. Pastors are a part of the government of any church. A Pastor would be an elder, with other elders assisting him in watching over God s flock. Elders are set in the church by the Holy Spirit and may occupy various offices. The Pastor with the elders, form the spiritual government of a church. The word government in the Greek means; to steer, directorship. This type of government provides checks and balances, for the leaders of the church. The pastors should have a heart to take care of their church family and attend to their everyday needs. The pastor should be nurturing and loving. The pastor s responsibility is to frequently visit their congregation and be very hospitable in their own home. They should be peaceful, disarming, motivating and counsel with wisdom.

Evangelist Gathers Teacher o The teacher is one who GRINDS the Word of God into an individual. The person who stands in the office of a teacher, will be able to explain spiritual truth in such a way that it is easily understood. It is not learned by human effort, but is by the anointing of the Holy Spirit. The teacher should be able to take a complicated subject and explain it so it's easy to understand. They should be logical, scientific, detailed and reasonable. They should enjoy private or group Bible study and are apt to use the Bible as a tool for problem resolution. A person can have natural ability or inclination to teach, but that does not qualify them to stand in the office of a teacher. The Holy Spirit gave and sets in the church, and anoints the one that He chooses. The anointing is the ability of God, working through mortal man. Represented by the small finger because it is the only finger that will fit in your ear. Each office of the five-fold ministry; Apostle, Prophet, Evangelist, Pastor, and Teacher, carries its own distinct anointing and has its own individual work. For these offices to work together, and accomplish the building up of the body of Christ; they must recognize their differences and be yielded and submitted to one another. Each of these offices are directly responsible to the Lord Jesus Christ and are directed by the Holy Spirit, to the work of service. 5 Gs of the Five Fold Ministry
